  1. In leg 4 I make another 25 minute hop, this time to Skykomish State. Wanting to see a little more of the scenery I delve back into the summer months for the weather, but leave my date settings to current. Still a bit of clouds above, but the visibility has improved.

Engine fired up and ready to head out.

    JaapP321.jpg

    Lined up on runway 8.

    JaapP322.jpg

    Blast off!

    JaapP323.jpg

Made a u-turn after takeoff and now leveling out at about 3100 feet initially.

    JaapP324.jpg

Leaving the highway behind, I make a right turn and follow a river up the next valley.

    JaapP325.jpg

    JaapP326.jpg

The river splitting off now as I continue my way up the valley. Gaining altitude to about 4500 feet to cross over the range.

    JaapP328.jpg

    JaapP330.jpg

Cresting the ridge I find two small lakes hiding at the summit.

    JaapP331.jpg

Heading back down the adjoining valley and losing some altitude in preparation for a straight in approach to runway 6.

    JaapP333.jpg

    JaapP334.jpg

Airfield in sight... sort of. At least I know it's in the middle of all those trees.

    JaapP335.jpg

Coming as close to the treetops as I can without hitting them. Real tough approach for me as I try to stay just above stall speed.

    JaapP337.jpg

Almost there. Get ready to hit the brakes!

    JaapP338.jpg

Safe and sound. Thanks for looking.

  2. Leg three picks up from Easton State where we follow the highway to the northwest and stop at Bandera State. A quick 25 minute hop, but a nice one that featured some low lying clouds. No snow this time, but visibility was still pretty low.

    Enjoy the shots.

Starting out on runway 9, surveying the surroundings.

    JaapP301.jpg

    JaapP302.jpg

And we're off on leg three.

    JaapP304.jpg

Visibility quickly drops as I level off at 3000 feet.

    JaapP307.jpg

    JaapP309.jpg

Following the highway up the valley in search of my first stop.

    JaapP311.jpg

    JaapP312.jpg

Landing strip below as I make a downwind approach to runway 8.

    JaapP314.jpg

Circled around now with both elevation and speed bled off.

    JaapP316.jpg

    JaapP317.jpg

    Touchdown at Bandera State.

  3. Blurries are definitely more of an issue when it comes to photo sceneries, I think mostly because each tile is unique. Stock textures are used in succession for all other areas and can be loaded fast as they are already in use, whereas photo sceneries have custom textures for every tile loaded. It's why the load times are mush longer, and I believe lend a hand in the blurries as well.

A couple of things that have helped me is to defrag the system according to name using the O&O software recommended be Megascenery. I know, it's another purchase, but it does much more than the standard defrag can do in Windows. Organizing it by name allows the disk to grab the next tile faster because it's physically closer on the disk. Load times decrease, and my blurries improve. The other was thanks to the blog posted here a few days ago concerning locking the framerates to something just below what your system can constantly maintain. So, if my system can maintiain 28 regularly, then I lock at 25. Locking it at a higher number than your system can maintain won't yield any results.

Aside from that there is a certain amount of tolerance that has to come with them. As you said, blurry tiles in Megascenery are more noticeable because they are more detailed. And if you fly jets at all, forget having clear textures, it just won't keep up.

  4. It is, but despite having an active route programmed, I did follow eveything as outlined in Jaap's descriptions. I only programmed it in case my brain was unable to follow them close enough to find my way. That and I had just finished creating that avionics install and wanted to test it out.

On your recommendation though, this weekends legs will be pure VFR. :D

  5. Part two of the tour takes from where we left off in Ranger Creek to Easton State. Weather was polar opposite today from what it was yesterday, which turned this 30 minute flight into about 45. Let's have a look.

Here we pick things up at Ranger Creek just as I was climbing in.

    JaapP201.jpg

A short taxi to runway 15 and lined up. Clouds looking very ominous.

    JaapP203.jpg

Just after takeoff and clearing the trees and the end of the runway. Weather is deteriorating fast.

    JaapP205.jpg

As soon as I hit 3500 feet it began to snow.... hard!

    JaapP206.jpg

Visibility was obviously very low which made my turn-around a bit nerve racking.

    JaapP207.jpg

    JaapP209.jpg

Headed back up the valley I came up on in the last leg, except this time I'll be making a right and continuing up mountainside.

    JaapP211.jpg

    JaapP214.jpg

Cresting the mountains at the end of the valley as snow continues to fall. Holding at about 5500 feet now.

    JaapP217.jpg

    JaapP219.jpg

Descending on approach to runway 9 at Easton State now, with the snow thankfully giving me a break.

    JaapP222.jpg

Short final and getting hammered by wind gusts.

    JaapP226.jpg

Whew, made it down safe and sound.

    JaapP227.jpg

Parked and shut down on a very interesting leg. Better wait for more stable weather before continuing. Thanks for looking. :)

  6. Hello all,

Well, I just discovered a great set of VFR tours of the airfields around and including Emma Field. Loving the area, I was really looking forward to starting on them and decided to do it in my Piper Cherokee. If possible I will document each leg of the trip and share the shots with you all.

The first leg begins naturally at Emma Field and takes about a 50 minute trip to Ranger Creek across the valley. Was a perfect day for flying and turned out to be a great trip. Enjoy!

Here I am climbing into the cockpit for a crisp morning takeoff.

    JaapP103.jpg

Fritz has cleared me to taxiing to runway 36.

    JaapP104.jpg

    Full steam ahead!

    JaapP106.jpg

    JaapP107.jpg

Making my turn to start heading across the valley. The aim is to hit the valley between Seattle and Tacoma.

    JaapP108.jpg

Waving goodbye to the Emma Field waterfall.

    JaapP110.jpg

Cruising at about 2000 feet above the countryside on a beautiful day.

    JaapP112.jpg

    JaapP114.jpg

Making my way across the various waterways as a few more clouds creep in.

    JaapP115.jpg

    JaapP119.jpg

Found my valley and begin to climb to 3000 feet to match the terrain.

    JaapP122.jpg

    JaapP125.jpg

Making my right turn to head towards Ranger Creek.

    JaapP127.jpg

Hugging the mountainside to line up with runway 15. Pretty tough approach!

    JaapP129.jpg

    Lined up and looking good.

    JaapP130.jpg

Parked and powered down on leg 1. Next stop... Easton State!

    JaapP131.jpg

  7. Just go to Avsim.com, file library, and type in my family name, 'hees', in the search field. You can download all three of the Emma field Tours then (I is the older one) and also the German version of Emma field Tour II if you like  .

    Have fun

I just discovered the tours through this thread. Now I can't wait to start them myself. First leg coming up this weekend. Thanks!

  8. I'm at 308 items in my scenery.cfg and 88GB of disk and managing to do pretty well. I do know what you mean though. I own tons of payware, and tons of freeware as well. My wife calls it "EDD"... Excessive Download Disorder.

  9. Thanks for the reply. I was able to connect this morning with one other person already on it (as you know, you were the person :)), so I question if it's the firewall. Firewalls are pretty consistent in that if it blocks, it always blocks. Has anyone else ever had this trouble? Would it have anything to do with the number of pilots on the server at one time?

  10. ...but it seems only when there are other people on it. Yesterday I was looking forward to the Fly-in, but much to my dismay when I tried to connect it would sit and think for a while and then come back and say "not all players were able to connect". I am using the correct port, and am able to see the server, but I get this error when trying to join. I am behind a firewall, but have opened the necessary ports (I even tried opening all ports just to test). The odd thing is that I am able to join with no problems when there is no one else on the server. It joins instantly and brings the chat box up. I am also able to join a direct IP to IP session without problems. I'm confused as to why this only seems to occur when there are other pilots on the server.

Any help you may be able to offer is much appreciated.

  11. Well, I tried for an hour to connect and never could. I tried everthing I could think of, but always received the same message: "Not all users were able to connect". I'm able to connect to Terry's server with no one on it, but have no idea if it would work with others there. I've been able to connect direct with individuals before, but the server doesn't seem to work for me. I now have to quit out of frustration. Hope others had better success than I did.
