    Hi Pete

I have run three test flights, and all resulted in 5 autosaves as set in FSUIPC. Below I have shown one set of autosave files from the last 5 minutes of each flight.  The parameters for each flight were as below:

Regular saving of scenarios (either ; or menu action) produce 2 files  *.fxml and .*wx with default aircraft, and 5 files *..FLT, *..mj1, *..mj2, *.fxml, *.wx with Majestic Dash 8.  This is borne out in the current discussion over on the Majestic forum where no one appears to take responsibility for the production of the FLT files!

I have no explanation for my multiple saves in Wednesday’s message above, when I originally did not have the AlsoManage 4 and5 commands in place.

However I am happy now, it seems that everything is working okay

Thank you for all your help,

  2. Hi Pete

Thx for the extra work you did, I cannot explain the .FLT files except they turn up in a saved scenario for the MajesticDash8 400.

I think I have solved it – there were .fxml and .wx files for the autosaved scenarios, but I missed them since the .FLT and .wxml files both had P3D icons on them.  So I changed the FSUIPC.ini file as below, including the .fxml and .wx files in the AlsoManage entries.

Autosave now seems to be working correctly and I am only getting the latest 5 scenarios.

I also enabled the logging facility for Autosave and I have attached the latest log.  Although there were some earlier autosave error messages, they are followed by all the appropriate files being deleted.

    Again, thx for your help.

  3. Hi Pete

I need more help, if you can oblige.

I read the Advanced Users Guide and this is what I inserted into the [AutoSave] section of the FSUIPC.ini, I cannot find any Majestic auto-save files anywhere other than the P3Dv4 Scenarios folder in the path shown. This addition did not help; I continued getting autosave files every 60 seconds.

  4. I have P3Dv4 and a registered copy of FSUIPC5.  When I use auto-save I set it up for 5 auto-saves separated by one minute.

However when I use P3Dv4, I seem to get continuing auto-saves at one minute intervals, eventually reaching hundred’s, then I delete them.  It starts all over again so I have now turned off auto-save.

Any ideas what is causing this?

  5. Hi Pete

I have a favour to ask. This forum does not seem to be the right medium to do this, but I could find no way of e-mailing you or private messaging.

I run a FlightSim Club at the West Vancouver Seniors Centre - we have about 15 members (mostly grey-hairs), many of whom are ex-pilots, including some WW2, and we meet monthly.

I would like your permission to install my purchased copy of your FSUIPC4 for FSX, onto the Instructors machine at the Centre. The Instructor's machine is on a trolley and comes with a projector. We use this machine for teaching and demonstration purposes, and this is what I use for the FlightSim Club.

I should also point out that the Instructor's machine is used for presentations at the West Vancouver Seniors Centre Computer Club (http://www.wvsc.cc/). This has about 60 members, and 20 to 30 turn out for each meeting, twice a month! My executable file and registration code would not be left on this machine. The machine is Administrator protected with very few people knowledgeable of the password.

I seek your permission to have my software loaded on two machines, viz: mine at home (as at present) and the Instructor's machine at the Centre. There is no justification for the Centre to purchase this software since we can operate without it. But it would be a lot nicer having this flexibility and it would also provide promotional exposure.

    sincerely

  6. CYVR4 is no longer available at AVSIM, it was lost as a result of the hack there. They have been asking me for copies but I have changed computer (when a lot of files got lost) and changed house, and I no longer have copies of my zip files. But all is not lost, they are available at FlightSim.com but under a slightly different name. Do a search for Vancouver and these two files should be there; also check whether you have the appropriate fixes and are upgrading the correct version, this was long a ago and I remember it got a bit confusing. The two files are

    cyvr42vp.zip

    cyvrv_1.zip

  7. Wow, we are going back some! I no longer have FS2004 installed.

If I remember correctly, and this is all in the readme, you have to install Grahame Gerrish'e trees libray accoprding to his instructions, and a specific file I included in the download to be copied into one of the main default scenery folders. Then the trees should show properly. Alternatively if you don't want the trees, remove the two tree*.bgl files from the CYVR scenery folder, then they will disappear. There was a message string on this subject but I could not find it.

    Hope this works for you!

ps am having my own problems at the moment getting my CYVR5 fitting properly with FST_PNW and Vancouver+ for FSX.

  8. I have FSX and recently purchased the Aerosoft Twin Otter. In order to steer the float version on the water I have created four key stroke selections in FSUIPC4 to increase or decrease each engine thrust incrementally to use the engines to steer on water.

BUT these key strokes are also used by the default GPS in FSX, eg I used "V" as an incremental thrust increase for engine #1, but "V" won't post when I try to type CYVR (Vancouver) in the FSX GPS when flying the Twin Otter Float (the key strokes have only been assigned to this specific aircraft). This must be a universal problem for keystrokes being assigned because I presume the ICAO codes will utilize all the letters of the alphabet.

    Any work around for this?

  9. I am presuming that you have installed CYVR42 then applied the upgrade CYVR42v+ to make it compatible with Vancouver+ for FS2004? I suggest you go back and re-read the instructions since unfortunately with all the various upgrades it is not a straightforward process, and I presume you removed the SeaIsland folder from the CYVR42 installation.

To resolve the tree problem, the following is in the CYVR42 readme and is well worth doing:

"Go to avsim.com or flightsim.com and download Gerrish Gray's FS2000/2 TREES OBJECT LIBRARY Release 3 - Updated Version (file "trees_v3.zip"). Unzip " trees_v3.zip" and follow the enclosed instructions to install his tree library. It is a bit complicated but worth the effort since this popular library is often required for other addon sceneries, and once installed does not need to be installed again. If you don't want to install this tree library, make sure you remove the two files "trees.bgl" and "treesn.bgl" from the Vancouver\scenery.

If you install Gerrish Gray's tree library, copy the file "GGv3_XTrees_lib9_0.bgl" into your FSroot\Scenery\Generic\Scenery folder"

E-mail me at pngrant35@shaw.ca if you have further problems with CYVR. I also suggest you look in the VAncouver+ manual regarding layering of sceneries, this can be critical in making sure the right ones show.

There are several oddities showing in your picture and I suggest you post your scenery.cfg file here (found in the FS2004 root directory) and we can see whether there are any extraneous sceneries hanging around.

  10. Yes, the tick should be left in place for CYVR, for my CYVR42 to work. I am using the Vancouver+ SeaIsland surface as the base to my scenery when used with Vancouver+. The Vancouver+ manual states that only CYV2, the Helijet terminal, should be de-activated.

I presume everyone has the two upgrades to my CYVR42 to make it compatible with Vancouver+ and that my original Sea Island folder has been removed?

    cheers

  11. I tried importing my Vancouver scenery into the FSX demo and the results were quite interesting. To my pleasant surprise the buildings seemed to come in okay, in fact the textures seemed to be a bit more vivid. My CYVR buildings were all made with EOD or NovaSim, converted to API's, placed and compiled in Airport, so it looks as though there may be hope for earlier sceneries which are not XML related. And I wonder whether Vancouver might be one of the detailed airports being close to MS "home".

But at ground level, I am unable to make any kind of assessment since there is no FSX default scenery in place in that region. I imported Vancouver+ and all the buildings show and the North Shore mountains show up but without textures, but anything related to the ground does not have any textures to show yet.

The scenery library seems to work as before but the FSX demo scenery.cfg file in its default folder remains unchanged. I was eventually directed to the active scenery.cfg file in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSXDemo\Scenery.cfg.

I am really impressed with the water textures at St Maarten, and FSX is going to be a big leap forward to those who normally don't deal with addons.

  12. Hi Mapex

What you propose there has to be done each time you fire up FS.

I found the below by Scott at the AVSIM forums which increases the CPU priority for FS each time you fire it up. Make sure you make a backup of anything you alter. I have tried this and think there is a bit of an improvement at CYVR but I'll keep flying with it like this for a while and see how it does.

""Here is what you need to do:

    1) Right click on the FS2004 shortcut and select properties.

    2) Change the TARGET line to the following:

    %comspec% /C "start /HIGH fs9.exe"

** Note: DO NOT include the path on this line! Windows XP doesn't like it with the comspec command, and you will get an error trying to start FS9 in most cases. Or sometimes you will get dumped to the command prompt with a error alert that states Windows is unable to find the correct file path.

    3) Make sure the START IN line has the path to FS9:

    "C:\Flight Simulator 9"

** This is the line that will take care of the path were FS9 is installed and it should allready be defaulted to your FS9 directory.

    4) Click the APPLY button and then the OK button to close the window.

That's it! FS9 should now be running at a HIGH priority level the next time you click on the modified shortcut.

After doing this, I noticed a very good increase in performance of the sim.

I also did this with ActiveSky Wxre (I set it to ABOVENORMAL) and I also have Radar Contact set to a high priority.

Now all these programs are working much better with FS9.

Of course you can verify the priorities by out of FS9 and opening the task manager to see at what priority that your tasks are running at.

I know that this topic has been covered before, but since I am getting such good results with these settings, I thought I would post my results anyways.

    Happy Simming and good luck!

  13. Hi Dave

Thx for downloading my scenery. yes I am afraid that the installation has got a bit messy with Vancouver+ or no Vancouver+ then the upgrades that have to apply to each setup.

Anyway, with Vancouver+ you have to install CYVR4.2 plus CYVR42v+ plus CYVRv+1 in that order; read the instructions and I remind you that when installing CYVR42v+ you have to replace the entire scenery folder otherwise you wil see double at the Flying Beaver and elsewhere!

If you follow instructions it should install correctly

    cheers
