Yeah, sound card driver indeed... I figured it out before this post was even approved. My headset has some fancy sound driver feature that makes a two-channel analog audio input into a 7.1 audio output, and apparently this is causing the problem.
To whoever may have had this problem, just disable any fancy features in the sound driver.
