Hi

I have had a problem about winds, SB and FSUIPC.

I can be flying along any aircarft or altitude. Pressing shift-z shows me an indicated airspeed for example of 270kts and the GPs shows a ground speed of 458kts. So i think all is normal. Then the controller comes to me and asks me to confirm speed because they are getting a reading of 120kts ground speed.

So i look at my squawkbox window (with the TAS and IAS in it)

I can't remember what the TAS was but the IAS was varying between 105kts and 280kts. And the SB wind roud out was at times up to 300kts headwind. A few minutes ago i thought it would try and fly an orbit to see if i ended up with a 300kt tail wind. But no, the headwind remained for the full 360 degree turn.

I have spoken to numerous people and no one seems to be able to help me. So the controller sees my ground speed as it is indicated in SB and yet in my GPS i see a ground speed of over 400kts.

Any ideas on how i can solve this?

Thanks

Sounds extremely weird. I hope other SB users can help here. FSUIPC is not controlling winds -- what is controlling the weather in your setup? There is a problem in FS2004 with occasional 180 degree windshifts, but you would most certainly notice these as they would affect the performance of the aircraft quite markedly!

I have never heard of headwinds that follow your nose as you turn -- that sounds impossible to produce in FS2004 for sure.

I don't know where SB is reading things, nor whether you are using a default FS204 GPS or an add-on, but you could monitor the places inside FS where these things are maintained.

In FSUIPC options, select the Logging page and look at the right-hand side. Here you can enter up to 4 variables to be monitored.

The GS is at offset 02B6 and is type U16. This is in metres/sec so you would need to do a rough conversion in your head to see if it looked right (a bit more than half to get knots).

The default FS2004 GPS GS is at offset 6030, and is type FLT64, also in metres/sec. You can therefore compare them quite easily.

You could also monitor the ambient wind direction (0E92, U16, in units making 360 degrees = 65536), and ambient wind speed (0E90, U16, in knots). These should be identical (in result) as the Shift+Z wind display.

If you want to monitor TAS or IAS in place of any of those:

TAS is at 02B8, as a U32, in knots x 128

IAS is at 02BC, same

To monitor them in the message window on screen check the "Adv display" checkbox below. To log them in FSUIPC's Log, check that box -- but don't do that for too long as it make the file grow vey fast, and may also affect frame rates.

I'd be interested to find out how you are getting a turning headwind to match your heading (!), but please note that I am away on holiday from this Thursday 19th Feb until Thursday 11th March, inclusive.

Thanks a lot for your reply Pete,

I had monitored the GS and GPS GS, TAS and IAS with two different aircrafts, the A320 PSS and the B737 default in FS2004, and SB not runing, and this is the results:

wheather winds setup at 007 deegres and 0 knots

TAS and IAS seems to be correctly, but GS is aprox. 50% of IAS at all the moments and the monitor GS GPS is exactly the same. Increses TAS and IAS, then increses too GS and GPS GS, but GS displayed at the default Garmin GPS is normal. The aircrafs are runing slowly, like the ground speed monitored...

I think is a problem of my configuration in FS2004, but i don´t know what can i do. I´m using FS2002 for two years and i never had a problem with it. I find two questions like this in other forums os SB, AVSIM and simsclients for other users and there are no replys for this questions.

I had reinstall FS2004 and the problem is still there.

Thanhs again for your reply.

Well, they are the values FS is computing and using. Are you sure you are converting correctly? The GS is in METRES/SEC not KNOTS, so you need to convert to compare.

1 knot = 1 nm/hr.

1 nm = 1852 metres

Therefore 1 metre/sec = 3600/1852 knots, i.e multiple m/sec by 1.94.

I think is a problem of my configuration in FS2004, but i don´t know what can i do. I´m using FS2002 for two years and i never had a problem with it.

There shouldn't be any difference between the two as far as GS, TAS and IAS are concerned. It's you headwind that stays directly on your nose as you turn which is the most peculiar. I really cannot think of any possible explanation for that!

I think i arrange this problem. I have uninstall FS, SB, and all the addons, then i had made a "clean" reinstall and it seems to work fine.

Thanks again for your reply Pete.
