daveg4otu Posted July 8, 2004 Report Posted July 8, 2004 A problem has arisen after immediately installing the latest (registered) FSUIPC 3.30 yesterday . I followed my usual practice of removing the old FSUIPC module to a backup folder , and after unzipping placing the new module into FS9 /modules.. I am currently betatesting the Squawkbox 3 and I think the problem may be to do with the relationship between these two applications. What happens is this........ After starting FS9( in an offline situation) the SB3 will sometimes try start automatically ( this is something the hopefully is going to be changed). On closing FS9 and restarting FS9 I get the " You have duplicate copies of FSUIPC etc" error message - which will not go away or allow me to restart FS9 without rebooting the PC. In addition , when rebooting the PC will not shut down - saying that FS9.exe is still open- giving the usual End it Now /wait fot it to end message. Rebooting does appear to clear the situation. Reverting to the previous FSUIPC hasn't cured the problem. I haven't tried deleting the FS9.cfg so far, but I did try a system restore back to before I first installed the new module with no luck. I realise that this may well be the fault of SB3 and am posting on the SB3 bug database also. Dave
Pete Dowson Posted July 8, 2004 Report Posted July 8, 2004 On closing FS9 and restarting FS9 I get the " You have duplicate copies of FSUIPC etc" error message - which will not go away or allow me to restart FS9 without rebooting the PC. Sounds like something is hanging in FS, presumably part of the Squawkbox add-in modules. Rather than reboot the PC you should find it easier to use CTRL_ALT_DEL and close the FS9.EXE process. In addition , when rebooting the PC will not shut down - saying that FS9.exe is still open- giving the usual End it Now /wait fot it to end message. Closing the FS9.exe process would be better. Reverting to the previous FSUIPC hasn't cured the problem. This proves that there's no change in FSUIPC which will have done this. You need to report this to the SB developers. The fact that it appeared to start doing this when installing the latest FSUIPC must be a complete coincidence, because replacing the DLL does completely change versions of FSUIPC -- there is nothing hidden anywhere at all, and FSUIPC makes no changes to any files or registry entries used by FS, none at all. I realise that this may well be the fault of SB3 and am posting on the SB3 bug database also. Okay. Regards, Pete
daveg4otu Posted July 8, 2004 Author Report Posted July 8, 2004 Thankyou for the speedy reply Pete.... Further testing seems to indicate that the problem is almost certainly to do with the start up and/or shutdown of SB3 somehow preventing FS9 from closing properly. The Alt_ctrl_Del does not have the desired effect - I still need to reboot to stop the " Duplicate FSUIPC" messages- the reboot seems to" wipe the slate clean". As I said - I have added it to the SB3 bug database - let's see what comes of that. Cheers Dave
Pete Dowson Posted July 8, 2004 Report Posted July 8, 2004 The Alt_ctrl_Del does not have the desired effect - I still need to reboot to stop the " Duplicate FSUIPC" messages- the reboot seems to" wipe the slate clean". Is this with WinXP? You can certainly delete the whole process with WinXP without re-booting. Ctrl-Alt-Del brings up the task manager. Select the processes tab, scroll down and find the FS9.exe entry, highlight it then press the "End Process" button at the bottom. Win98 is a different matter. After any crash of any program in Win98 you should re-boot in any case. Regards, Pete
daveg4otu Posted July 8, 2004 Author Report Posted July 8, 2004 Hello again Pete............. Well this is with WinXP home and tho - as you correctlysay Alt Ctrl Del enables you to close the process - I still have to reboot to get a clean start on FS9 - otherwise I get the " Duplicate FSUIPC" notice and FS9 refuses to go beyond the splash screen. However - I'm certain now that it is SB3 that's the problem rather than FSUIPC as removing SB3 removes the problem - everything else including SB2/SBRelay etc works just fine then. I 'm certain now that we've eliminated FSUIPC from the problem - must have been coincidence the problem chose that moment to show up. ( Murphy's law again) Thanks again Dave

You really cannot be ending the process then. Regards, Pete
daveg4otu Posted July 9, 2004 Author Report Posted July 9, 2004 Quick update......... The problem goes away as soon as I remove the SB dlls from the modules folder so obviously the problem lies with them- somehow hanging on to FSUIPC after the fs9 software is supposedly shut down . Sorry I laid this at your door Pete and thanks for the guidance. BTW I love the wind smoothing in the latest version - really effective. Dave

Sorry I laid this at your door Pete and thanks for the guidance. No problem. I expect the SB problems will gradually be ironed out. It is still in Beta isn't it? Or hasn't it got to Beta stage yet? daveg4otu Posted July 9, 2004 Author Report Posted July 9, 2004 I thinks it's sort of " late Alpha" Dave
