jase439 Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 I have a feature request for a future version of FSUIPC. Would it be possible to add a ramp to the auto taxi wind feature? One situation I find myself in frequently, is when I'm landing in a stiff crosswind >= 15 kts and I'm applying alot of rudder action (especially during the flare and kickout - talking about the big iron here) to get the nose pointed down the centerline. As soon as the mains touch the ground, the taxi wind kicks in and my wind drops immediately from XX kts to 1. This results in an immediate somewhat abrupt over-correction due to applied rudder. I believe if the taxi wind effect could rapidly, but smoothly, ramp the wind speed down when activated, it would be easier to maintain control of the aircraft when the wheels hit the pavement. A similar thing on takeoff could also be worthwhile (although it's somewhat less of an issue under that condition). Thanks. Hope you enjoyed your break. J

jase439 Posted September 25, 2004 Author Report Posted September 25, 2004 I have indeed. Wouldn't fly without it!
Pete Dowson Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 I have indeed. Wouldn't fly without it! In that case, it does precisely what you want. If you have the taxi wind option set to automatic, then on take-off the wind transitions from the taxi wind speed of 1 knot, at the smoothing rate you specify, up to the correct wind speed. On landing the reverse happens on touchdown -- unless you have the option set to only smooth when airborne, of course. Maybe that's your problem? Or you have the smoothing rate set a bit high for your liking? Regards, Pete
jase439 Posted September 26, 2004 Author Report Posted September 26, 2004 Hmmm. Does taxi wind only kick in when the aircraft is in contact with the ground or is there a psuedo-taxi-wind-layer just above the surface that the aircraft passes through as it's landing? Jason

On landing it's only when actually on the ground. If you want it otherwise it's best to use the manual method and assign a hot key (FSUIPC Hot Keys page). Pete
