dizzyduck Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 Just recently my ATI 9800 Video card's cooling fan decided to seperate from the card and cause my system to take a royal dump. I took it in for a repair anmd the servive fella told me my hard drive went south as well,,, "but, thats a different story" Anyway, I bught a new drive and purchased a card he recomemded.. the ATI 9250 with 256 on the memory. I know this is less the card than the 9800 but I have plans to purchase a new XPS 700 soon so I skimped a little.. Im am having to rebuild FS9 from scratch again and have managed to get most of it done but Im having a problem with the surface visibility layer not graduating to the clear sky enviorment above. It looks very harsh. You take off with say 10 miles of visibilty and you climb through that layer and you see a harsh whiitish area below you. A definite line where that area stops and the clear begins. This is really bad in mountainious areas. You see the clear tops and haze distorted sides. Ive never had this problm before, Is there a setting in the FS9 config to fix this? I have a registered version and the latest of FSUIPC but I'm not really familiar with the advanced features. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Jim
Pete Dowson Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 Im having a problem with the surface visibility layer not graduating to the clear sky enviorment above. It looks very harsh. You take off with say 10 miles of visibilty and you climb through that layer and you see a harsh whiitish area below you. A definite line where that area stops and the clear begins. That's the thin cloud layer which FS9 puts on the top of the surface visibility when it is below something like 10 miles or so (sorry, not sure of the value). It is intended to look like a fog bank, but it covers only an area entending from the aircraft position to the "cloud visibility distance" set in your weather sliders (Options-Settings-Display-Weather). Microsoft did this is response to all the complaints than in previous versions you could climb out of fog, then look down and see the ground sharp and clear. Ive never had this problm before Really? It's always been in FS9. Is there a setting in the FS9 config to fix this? No, though you can change the size of the layer as I just said. I have a registered version and the latest of FSUIPC but I'm not really familiar with the advanced features. The graduated visibility options aren't advanced. You can just switch them on. Take a look. Regards Pete
dizzyduck Posted October 31, 2006 Author Report Posted October 31, 2006 Thanks for the reply Pete This has just never looked so pronounced before. I realize that layer has been there. Ill try to get a screen shot for you to see. Also, when I got this video card I had a real problem with the jagies on the horizon and I was told to insert the line: TableFog=0 under my display settings into my FS9 config. That cured the jaggies..... Thanks Again Jim
Pete Dowson Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 here is an image Yes, that looks it. Have you tried switching on the graduated visibility facilities in FSUIPC yet? Pete
