Hi Pete let me tell you what happening with FSUIPC4 installation.Hope this feedback helps solve prob.

First I install FSX all ok.Started ok.I noticed there waso modules folder yet. Then installed FSUIPC4 version 4,026 (teh latest one also tried one before). It goes quick as lightning and a message FSUIPC4.DLL version 4.026 installed into FSX okay. Please see the FSUIPC4 user guide file now.It is inthe FSX\Modules folder. Before starting FSX I checked modules folder wich was completely empty but turned out files where considered hidden wich I noticed after I changed settings in folder display properties. So now the files are there.I start FSX and I got a FSUIPC running and I registered it.Closed FSX and went back to modules folder and now there ini log and key added to it.So far so good I guess.

But when trying to update or install over I get an error message "Problem!Cannot place FSUIPC4.DLL into the FSX\modules folder! The error reported by windows is : access denied."This message is even a bit longer when I immediately try to install again before starting FSX additional text is "The old DLL is read only!"Once FSX was started once only text "Problem!Cannot place FSUIPC4.DLL into the FSX\modules folder! The error reported by windows is : access denied."

The only way to reinstall are update is to manualy remove FSUIPC4 .Not that bigger prob but still.

One last thing I don't have antivirus installed like somewhere else was said to be the prob.I only use XP Firewall and Windows Defender. But even with those off still prob like described above.

Hope not to hassel you too much....Much appreciated.

Regards...Marc

Before starting FSX I checked modules folder wich was completely empty but turned out files where considered hidden wich I noticed after I changed settings in folder display properties.

Very strange. The folder is created by FSUIPC's installer with default properties. I'll check to see if I can deliberately "unhide" the folder in case it is getting the property from its parent, though that seems unlikely too.

So now the files are there.I start FSX and I got a FSUIPC running and I registered it.Closed FSX and went back to modules folder and now there ini log and key added to it.So far so good I guess.

Yes, that's correct.

But when trying to update or install over I get an error message "Problem!Cannot place FSUIPC4.DLL into the FSX\modules folder! The error reported by windows is : access denied."

Access denied? Even stranger. Why were you trying to reinstall the same version again, by the way? And howw long (how many seconds) after closing FSX did you try this. I have noticed that FSX closed its Wndow and seems to disappear quite quickly, but, presumably because of the sheer amount of clearing upit has to do, the process itself doesn't finish for anything up to 20 or so seconds later.

If that was the case, and for some reason you tried to re-install FSUIPC4 then the "Access Denied" error may have simply been because the module was effectively still loaded in tthe closing down FSX process.

This message is even a bit longer when I immediately try to install again before starting FSX additional text is "The old DLL is read only!"

I don't know how Windows is doing this, because even if the file does get marked "read only" the installer deliberately unmarks it before trying to replace it. I have a fgeeling that this may be an indirect result of trying to re-install it whilst it was still running.

Why are you repeatedly trying to install the same version?

The only way to reinstall are update is to manualy remove FSUIPC4 .Not that bigger prob but still.

This is not a general problem, it is somehow very specific to your system. Can you please tell me what version of Windows it is? Are any of the folders in FSX already marked hiddeb or read-only?

I am grateful for the report, but I am still puzzled as to why you are installing FSUIPC 4.026 three or more times when the first time worked okay? It may simply be this which is somehow causing the problem, though it wouldn't explain the hidden files in the first attempt.

Anyway, I'm making changes so that the attributes like Hidden and Read Only are removed by the installer before it tries anything.

Hi Peter,

Thx for the reply.About the repzatedly binstall, Ihad version 4,023 installed and tried to update it with version4,026.That's how I found those things out.

The modules folder wasn't hidden. But aal the installation files from FSUIPC4 were.Except for the ini, key and log file after running FSX were showing.Only after I changed display properties in extra, folder options, display where I unchecked the item "Hide Secured system files (recommendedà" wich by default was checked I got to see the FSUIPC4 files. And all those files are marked read only and hidden(hidden checkbox grayed out but checked)I could uncheck the read only thing but like I said not the hidden check(grayed out).

And yes as long as a FSUIPC4.DLL is in the modules folder when I tried to update I got that error message like mentioned before.Only after I manually remove the DLL I'm able to install the new version.Hope this helps.

Hi Peter,

Sry again but just the folders are marked read only not the files in it but so are all of the folders on puter as far as I checked.

Strange. I think the "graying out" actually means that the attributes are being imposed by virtue of attributes for the folders above being inherited. If so, it could all be some strange result of how FSX itself is installed on your system. Have you checked the attributes of other FSX folders to see?

Hmmmstrange. I wonder how that happened. Certainly it isn't anything in my installer changing your entire file system.

Anyway, I am making some changes to try to IMPOSE the attributes I want on the files my installer installs. Those changes will be in the next update, whenever, so please be sure to let me know how they work on your setup.

Thanks,

Pete
