Hello Peter,

I'm running FSX on VISTA 32 bit (I hate it too!) - FSUIPC was working fine with my antivirus and network settings that are unchanged (McAfee Security Suite) but now the Addon Menu is missing (I have read all I can on the help provided for similar issues but have not managed to resolve the problem) - Here is the installation log (note after several attempts at upgrading to FSUIPC v 4.20):-

________________________________

Installer for FSUIPC4.DLL version 4.20

Looking in registry for FSX install path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10.0

Parameter"SetupPath"

SetupPath="C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\"

Checking version of FSX.EXE:

Checking compatibility with installed SimConnect:

... Okay, Probe Manifest matches installed SimConnect 60905 (Original)

Found later build SimConnect 61242 (SP1 May07)

Checking if there's already a version of FSUIPC4 installed in:

... Version 4.200 found.

FSX Modules folder already exists.

Okay -- installed FSUIPC4 into "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Modules\FSUIPC4.DLL"

Looking for the current user's Application Data path:

... found as "C:\Users\David\AppData\Roaming"

Now finding \Microsoft\FSX\FSX.CFG for all users, including this one

Looking in "C:\Users\David\AppData\Roaming"

Found FSX.CFG in "C:\Users\David\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\FSX.CFG"!

Now checking DLL.XML ...

... There is a previous DLL.XML, checking for FSUIPC4 section.

... FSUIPC4 section already exists but will be replaced.

... FSUIPC4 section of DLL.XML written okay

Now checking for a SimConnect.XML file ...

... No SimConnect.XML file found. This is okay.

Looking in "C:\Users\David\Application Data\Roaming"

I have tried to make a Simconnect log file from your instructions - saving the Simconnect.ini file in the same folder as my FSX.cfg but do not get a log in the root after running FSX? - (this may be that I have followed instructions for FS9 judging from the date of your post).

Any help appreciated - thanks and season's greetings!

Why several attempts? How did the earlier ones fail?

These is very little difference in the SimConnect initialisation in FSUIPC between 4.12 and 4.20. There are lots of other updates and fixes, but they are all only applicable when it is running.

Your installer log shows things are okay.

After running FSX it looks like FSUIPC does not load at all, here is the FSUIPC log that still shows the previous version (v4.12).

I assume the date on that Log file shows it was created before you installed 4.20?

If FSUIPC4 isn't getting loaded, then it is irrelevant which version it is -- it has to get loaded before any difference would be manifested. You could prove yourself if you still had 4.12's "FSUIPC4.DLL", by simply copying it into the FSX Modules folder.

So, it seems likely something else has changed, or maybe some other add-on has been installed which has disturbed SimConnect in some way.

Since FSUIPC4 is not even getting loaded, the first step is to get a SimConnect Log -- the FSX Help Announcement above tells you how to do that. Let me see the reslut. It may also help to show me the DLL.XML file, which you will find in the same folder as the FSX.CFG file (C:\Users\David\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX).

Er, no, not FS9. There was no SimConnect in FS9 to get a log from!

As the instructions say, the SimConnect.INI file does not go into the FSX.CFG folder, but into your documents "Flight Simulator X Files" folder, the same place that plans and flights are saved.

The first gave an error from Vista "..... may not have installed properly, do you want to reinstall using recommended settings" - I answered NO to this one - benefit of hindsight I should probably have answered YES. I have since reinstalled a few times without such a message appearing.

Yes - you are correct.

You could prove yourself if you still had 4.12's "FSUIPC4.DLL", by simply copying it into the FSX Modules folder

Unfortunately I do not still have the FSUIPC4.DLL file for v4.12 - it was overwritten during installation of V4.20

So, it seems likely something else has changed, or maybe some other add-on has been installed which has disturbed SimConnect in some way.

No other addons have been installed since FSUIPC upgrade.

Since FSUIPC4 is not even getting loaded, the first step is to get a SimConnect Log -- the FSX Help Announcement above tells you how to do that. Let me see the result

Thanks for putting me straight on this one..... here's the Simconnect log file, not very long, just the one line thus:-

0.00000 SimConnect version 10.0.61242.0

Thanks for the speedy response.... hope the above helps out.

Hmm. Not heard of that one. It's rather worrying.

In that case the problem must be in the DLL.XML file. It is that which instructs SimConnect to load the DLL add-ons. Can you find that and show it to me? And delete it and re-reun the FSUIPC4 install so it creates a new one.

You are, I assume, running FSX as the same logged-on user as when you installed FSX and FSUIPC4?

Peter - thanks but our posts crossed - I have since my last post deleted the DLL.XML file and run the FSUIPC install again thus creating a new XML.DLL file and it all now runs fine!!! - my addon has returned to the menu bar - FSUIPC is now loading and fully operational!. Many thanks for your kind help and support and may I take this opportunity to thank you for all your hard work in making continual improvements to FSUIPC that makes simulated flights so much more enjoyable for us all.

Thanks again - now to put a few additional lines in my new DLL.XML to get my traffic back again.... have a great Christmas.

Here is the new DLL.XML file that may assist others reading this post.......

Okay. That's where the problem is. Looks like you installed the FSX SDK but something went wrong with the DLL.XML file creation. Your easiest solution is to delete that file and re-install FSUIPC so it will create a new one.

If you want to try to fix it you need to make sure every opening tag <...> has a corresponding closing tag . Here's one sure error:

..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X

There must be a at the end of that line.

The rest looks okay, I think.

Assuming you mean the Traffic Toolbox, just add these lines before the final .. line:

Traffic Toolbox

False

False

..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll

That is, assuming that's the correct path to the traffictoolbox.dll.
