KLM077 Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 Dear Pete, I just did today some test flying with the new bought FSUIPC & WIDEFS this seems to work perfect..but.... After 45 minutes flying i got a problem. The system is run out of memory and FS9 crashes. I opened the task manager to do some investigation. I noticed that the memory usage of FS9.exe is increasing constantly. Even when you are on the gate, doing noting but drinking coffee, memory usage is increasing. I have a Q6700 with 2Gb of memory. After a certaintime the memory usage is too much and FS crashes with a nice "Out of memory message" I searched on the web and forums but i can't find any advise... Would you be so kind and give me possible some advise to solve this issue? Thank in advance!! Best regards, Bas van Leeuwen KLM077

After 45 minutes flying i got a problem. The system is run out of memory and FS9 crashes. I opened the task manager to do some investigation. I noticed that the memory usage of FS9.exe is increasing constantly. With FS9 that's a pretty standard known problem relating to specific types of misplaced scenery files (Landclass). It was very widely discussed about 5 years ago and there's a lot written about it. It is actually an FS9 bug -- it doesn't like landclass BGLs in scenery folders with no accompanying texture folders, or vice versa (sorry I don't recall all the details now, it has been too long!). Would you be so kind and give me possible some advise to solve this issue? There was a utility program around which would seek out the rogue scenery installations and fix their arrangements for you, but it is so long ago I'm afraid i don't remember it. I've really been a 100% FSX user for three years now. Best to search, or at least ask in the FS2004 forums. If you are writing here thinking it is anything to do with any of my programs I can assure you that there's never been any memory leaks from any of my programs. The probable reason you are hitting it a lot sooner with WideFS running is the usage of memory buffers for the TCP/IP protocol. You could reduce that part of the load by changing to UDP or even IPX, but it won't really cure the underlying problems. Regards Pete
KLM077 Posted November 14, 2008 Author Report Posted November 14, 2008 Dear Pete, Thanks for you promt reply. You gave me a good push in the right direction. I've tested with a fix for Ultimate terrain and the memory is more steady than when the issue occurred. Memory is still running up but not that much as before, i have to do some more improvements to it. Thanks! Best regards Bas van Leeuwen
