jbloney Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Hi Peter - Finally got around to registering at the forum. It took a serious problem to do it. I'll get right to it. I had a meltdown with my system and had to get it repaired. Strictly a hardware problem. However, since I've had the system fixed, I noticed that I can't get the red crosshair to show up in the AFCAD window. All was working just fine before the meltdown. The technicians say the only software they added were the drivers for the hardware they had to replace. (They didn't look to see what else I had on the system? I'll take that with a grain of salt.). So I'm asking what your take is on this situation and what do you think I could do to correct it. I installed the latest version (3.85 for FS2004) and that did not correct the situation. As a scenery designer, I need to see the location of the aircraft in AFCAD. I hope you can help. Regards, John B. Loney, Jr. (jbloney) jbloney@comcast.net www.lfssd.net
Pete Dowson Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 ... I can't get the red crosshair to show up in the AFCAD window. I hope you can help. I can't without more information. Does the FSUIPC.LOG file show any problem at all? Load FS, run it till ready to fly, then close it down. Paste the Log in a message here. Please also tell me the version of Windows in use. Regards Pete

Pete Dowson Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Hi Pete, I'm running XP Professional SP3. Here's the log. Thanks for your help. Okay. the problem appears to be that FSUIPC thinks you have an bad key, one made by a pirate hacked key generator. To prove this try removing your FSUIPC.KEY file from the FS Modules folder, to make FSUIPC unregistered -- I think you will find the red crosshair returns to AFCAD. if you believe you have a legitimate key, please ZIP up the FSUIPC.KEY and send it to petedowson@btconnect.com for checking. I do see a purchase made in your name (with a different email, which shouldn't matter) way back in August 2003, meaning you should have a good key, so I will need to check it out in any case. Is there any possibility you could have picked up a pirated registration file during your system's rebuild? Did you re-enter the registration yourself? Regards Pete
jbloney Posted November 28, 2008 Author Report Posted November 28, 2008 Hi Pete, When I first purchased FSUIPC, I lived in a different Cable zone (Cablevision), Since then I've moved to a different city and cable zone (Comcast), hence the difference in the email address. I had a computer crash about a year and a half ago and had to re-register FSUIPC. I saved the key on a floopy for safe keeping. This current meltdown, I didn't have to re-register. The About window said it was still a registered copy to me. I have no idea what the technicians at the shop may have done or looked at while they had it. I will follow your instructions and send the key following this reply. Thanks . John
jbloney Posted November 28, 2008 Author Report Posted November 28, 2008 Pete, looks like you were right. The red crosshair does show up when the FSUIPC is unregistered. I sent the key in a zip file file to the address you provided. What's next? John
Pete Dowson Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Pete, looks like you were right. The red crosshair does show up when the FSUIPC is unregistered. I sent the key in a zip file file to the address you provided. What's next? Thanks. And the key file works fine here. There's only one other possibility I'm aware of. The registration is only valid for dates AFTER it was purchased, not before. It was purchased in August 2003. Are you sure your system date is set correctly on the PC? Maybe your repairers never set the date and time for you, and neither have you? Regards Pete
jbloney Posted November 28, 2008 Author Report Posted November 28, 2008 Pete, Man, you are good! Everything seems to be working ok now. I discovered that the technicians did not reset the date and time as you suspected. Why I didn't check when I got the system back from repairs, I don't know, but that seems to have been the catalyst. I reset the date and time (It was set at January 2002) to the current setting and started FS and AFCAD. The crosshair was present after I registered the product. Thank you for your time and energy. I really appreciate it. Regards, John
