deimos256
Hello, I recently purchased the Captain Sim 767 and after installing it I get the following error when starting FSX - "Flight simulator has detected a problems with a 3rd party software program." The program listed is FSUIPC and asks me if I would like to run it anyway. If I choose to run it FSX proceeds to crash, if I choose not to run it FSX will start up but the 767 doesnt run right, I have numerous problems with the FMC. Im running FSX Acceleration on Windows Xp home SP3. Thank you for any input!

What version are you trying? If not the latest, update first. Regards Pete

Pete Dowson
its signed simlight gmbh, its the latest version 4.5.3 Does the signature actually check, though? That's the question. Select it and ask for details. It then says whether it is okay or not. What could it conflict with? There's a bug in SimConnect which was especially annoying in the original version of FSX which crashed FSX when loading multiple SimConnect clients. This was mostly fixed by the SP1 and SP2/Acceleration updates (along with a lot more bugs), so I'm surprised if you get the problem with a fully updated copy of FSX. Sometimes it can be fixed by changing the order of things for SimConnect. If you show me your EXE.XML and DLL.XML files (in the same folder as your FSX.CFG file), I could check for you. You could also try downloading the very latest incremental update for FSUIPC4, from the Updates & Goodies Announcement above. Just unzip it and put it int the FSX Modules folder. deimos256
in that folder I have - back_dll, dll, dll.xml.a2a, dll_backup, dll_xml_before_addon_manager, and thats all. Ill try the incremental update in the meantime. *edit* the latest incremental update didnt work either, as for simconnect, is that an addon? I dont think i have it? It is essential for most add-ons. 2. DLL.XML is part of the list you just made, so why do you think it isn't there? Why not show it to me -- you can paste it here. Pete Dowson
sorry i didnt know it was the same thing with the .a2a extension, when i try to upload it here it says the extension .a2a isnt allowed Ah, sorry, the "." before the a2a looked like a comma. My eyes are getting worse and there were no spaces. In that case the correct file is probably the one which to you looks like "dll" -- it seems you have widows Explorer set to hide filenames from you. I'd strongly advise you to go into the Explorer options and change that setting! And don't try to attach or upload the file. It won't be accepted. I said "pate" the file -- i.e. open it in an editor, like Notepad, then cut and paste it into a message, as text. Pete

Pete Dowson
Ok this is what i uncovered, I hope it makes more sense to you than it does to me, I really appreciate your help on this. What happened to the new lines? I'll have to extract the data from the mess. Maybe a bit like this (with loads missing by the look of it!): Launch dll.xml False False Addon Manager False False bglmanx.dll Object Placement Tool True False ..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll Traffic Toolbox True False ..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll Visual Effects Tool True False ..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll Kokpit False False SimObjects\Airplanes\HUGHES_H1B\panel\Cockpit_Sound.dll module_init module_deinit A2A Service False A2A\Shared\A2A_Service.dll module_init module_deinit FSDX False False FSDX.dll module_init module_deinit FDav False False Gauges\FDav.dll module_init module_deinit Captain Sim 767 Menu False Captain_Sim\Captain_Sim.b767.menu.dll FSUIPC 4 False Modules\FSUIPC4.dll Of that mess, these modules are part of FSX's SDK (which you must have installed) and they aren't running in any case: Object Placement Tool True False ..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll Traffic Toolbox True False ..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll Visual Effects Tool True False ..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll Then you have five (5! Phew!) other add-ons being loaded as SimConnect modules before FSUIPC4: Kokpit False False SimObjects\Airplanes\HUGHES_H1B\panel\Cockpit_Sound.dll module_init module_deinit A2A Service False A2A\Shared\A2A_Service.dll module_init module_deinit FSDX False False FSDX.dll module_init module_deinit FDav False False Gauges\FDav.dll module_init module_deinit Captain Sim 767 Menu False Captain_Sim\Captain_Sim.b767.menu.dll I don't know any of those, but as a process of elimination you could try renaming each it turn. You'll find them all in the paths shown -- the second emboldening on each line above. All of those are in folders in the FSX folder. It looks like FSDX.dll is in the main FSX folder. BTW, you didn't say, but what version of FSX are you runing? If it isn't fully updated, that should be your first job. Regards Pete

Pete Dowson
Im running FSX Acceleration. I tried renaming all of those .dlls and still get an error message for fsuipc and if i select to run it anyways i get a fatal error. To my knowledge i dont have the sdk installed as i dont create anything. Hmmm. Curiouser and curiouser. When do you actually get the "fatal error"? Is it immediately you elect to run it? Is there an FSUIPC4.LOG file in the FSX Modules folder? If so, please show it to me (cut and paste into a message). There's another possibility I'm thinking of, and that is a corrupted weather file in your default flight. FSUIPC4 will, after loading, immediately start to read weather data, and SimConnect is quite flakey with corrupted WX files (which are binary, not text). However, for that to be so, FSX will have been loading quite a bit -- it won't have reached the main selection menu, but it will be many seconds after the start. The other thing, when you get this message, are there any details? A button or option to click and get more details. I could do with the actual module name and the address. Oh, in the FSX Modules folder there will also be an Install log file. Can you cut and paste that into your rpely too, please? Pete
deimos256
What will happen is ill click on the .exe to run fsx, and it will load for a couple minutes then the fsuipc error comes up, as soon as i elect to run it i get the fatal error, but the fsuipc error does in fact come up after a few minutes of loading. ok here is the log file ********* FSUIPC4, Version 4.09 by Pete Dowson ********* User Name="" User Addr="" FSUIPC4 not user registered WIDEFS7 not user registered, or expired Running inside FSX Module base=61000000 DebugStatus=0 391 System time = 14:07:55 391 FLT UNC path = "C:\Documents and Settings\Me\My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files\" 391 FS UNC path = "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\" 1313 N.B. Pete Dowson
ok here is the log file ********* FSUIPC4, Version 4.09 by Pete Dowson ********* Ouch ouch oucha 3 year old version that knows nothing of Acceleration or even the SP1 update! Sorry, this has been a waste of time. The oldest supported version is 4.53. I should have asked the version to start with. :-( Also, it certainly isn't FSUIPC which is crashing. As these lines show: 667844 System time = 14:19:02, FSX time = 12:38:27 (16:38Z) 667844 *** FSUIPC log file being closed Memory managed: 163 Allocs, 163 Freed ********* FSUIPC Log file closed *********** It is running okay for nearly 668 seconds (over 11 minutes), and then closes normally. It cannot close normally if it is crashing. Also the Install fileInstaller for FSUIPC4.DLL version 4.53 Aha! So, you did install 4.53 at some stage, but something else you installed overwrote it? That's very bad of someone's installer! :-(. Run the 4.53 installer again, please! Checking compatibility with installed SimConnect: Found SimConnect build 60905 (Original) Found SimConnect build 61259 (Acc/SP2 Oct07) This part shows another odd problem, one of the SimConnect libraries is missing or broken (the SP1 one) -- the only other case reported recently of FSUIPC not working also had the SP1 version of SimConnect missing. So it might turn out to be a corrupted FSX installation. Pete
deimos256
oh wow, well i assure you 4.5.5.2 is installed, i guess there isnt a log for for it since i cant get it to run. There is no way to add the sp1 version of simconnect to an existing installation? *edit* Not sure if this means anything but i looked into the fatal error, it said the following will be reported - fsx.cfg, Dxdiag, scenery.cfg, fdr.bat, dll.xml As for modules listed out of 148, fsuipc was listed number 142 *edit again* I installed all three versions of simconnect, release version, sp1a version, and accel/sp2 version. Im still getting the error, and the install file for fsuipc is still not recognizing the sp1a simconnect file.
Pete Dowson
oh wow, well i assure you 4.5.5.2 is installed, i guess there isnt a log for for it since i cant get it to run. If it doesn't create a log, even only a small one, then it hasn't started (the log is opened very early indeed) -- so I don't believe it is actually crashing. Something in FSX is deciding it shouldn't be run, so when you ask it to, it declines by ending the session. I think this can happen because of that SimConnect bug I mentioned, but it is all tied up with trust -- i.e. the signature, which I don't recall you reporting back on? If you have "simFlight" listed as an untrusted publisher then FSX will not run FSUIPC. If you've ever replied no to the question as to whether you should allow FSUIPC to run then it is probably listed as untrusted. Look in the publishers lists in Internet Explorer (in one of the tabs in Internet Options). *edit* Not sure if this means anything but i looked into the fatal error, it said the following will be reported - fsx.cfg, Dxdiag, scenery.cfg, fdr.bat, dll.xml That's no use. I need the module which it says crashed, and its address. Such information is normally available by asking for more details. *edit again* I installed all three versions of simconnect, release version, sp1a version, and accel/sp2 version. Im still getting the error, and the install file for fsuipc is still not recognizing the sp1a simconnect file. How did you go about "installing" SimConnect? I'm pretty sure that if you have a broken Side-by-Side library system for SimConnect you have to actually delete it first else the installer does nothing. See the "FSX Help" announcement above for details of SimConnect repairs. Regards Pete
deimos256
I think I got it fixed. I was reading the readme file contained in the simconnect folder and took the dll.xml and exe.xml files from fsxsdk\coreutilities\simconnect\config folder and dropped them in the folder containing my fsx.cfg Now instead of getting an fsuipc error and a fatal crash, fsx now just says to me "fsx is trying to run fsuipc 4.5.3 do you wish to allow this?" Along with "FSX is trying to run Captain SIm 767 menu.dll do you wish to allow it" Or something like that, once i click yes to both of them fsx loads right up. Once in fsx and I click under addons it lists fsuipc which tells me its running fine and also i now have a log file that has 4.5.3 in it. As for simconnect i actually followed a forum article for a different addon that was having trouble with not finding sp1 simconnect. I ended up installing sdk release version, took the .msi file for simconnect and put it off to the side, then updated to sp1a and put that one off to the side, then upgraded to accel/sp2 and put that one as well off to the side. After all that i installed all three versions of simconnect in order. Now in add/remove programs under control panel I have three entries for simconnect that i never had before. I have no idea if i had to do all that but i was bored haha.
Pete Dowson
I think I got it fixed. I was reading the readme file contained in the simconnect folder and took the dll.xml and exe.xml files from fsxsdk\coreutilities\simconnect\config folder and dropped them in the folder containing my fsx.cfg Okay. They would be the default files supplied in the SDK. Now instead of getting an fsuipc error and a fatal crash, fsx now just says to me "fsx is trying to run fsuipc 4.5.3 do you wish to allow this?" Along with "FSX is trying to run Captain SIm 767 menu.dll do you wish to allow it" Or something like that, once i click yes to both of them fsx loads right up. GoodI assume you installed FSUIPC and Captain Sim again? Else I wonder how those entries got back into a default DLL.XML file? It sounds like the DLL.XML file you had before, next to the FSX.CFG file, got screwed up in some strange way (maybe by one of the other installers), which then caused SimConnect some problems. If it happens again, please Zip up the DLL.XML and EXE.XML files and send them as attachments to me at petedowson@btconnect.com. Meanwhile, good flying!
