shearder Posted December 17, 2009 Author Report Posted December 17, 2009 AH many thanks Peter. I didn't see it there last night hence the message OR i was blind as a bat at the time ;)
shearder Posted December 17, 2009 Author Report Posted December 17, 2009 Hi Pete I am a little perplexed at the moment: I installed 4.53 and entered my serial numbers and started FSX. I got a message saying to register i need to start in Admin approval which i did. So, now, regardless of how i start it the message is that it is verion 4.558 but it is unregistered. How do i fix that?? Thanks in advance.
Pete Dowson Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 I am a little perplexed at the moment: I installed 4.53 and entered my serial numbers and started FSX. I got a message saying to register i need to start in Admin approval which i did. Really? Sorry -- that's certainly not needed and never has been since Registration was done in the Installer. I did find an old message which is fixed in 4.558, but the button below is disabled and tells you to use the Installer to register. If you "got a message" and aren't just reading the top right Registration details (above the disabled button), can you show me the message please? So, now, regardless of how i start it the message is that it is verion 4.558 but it is unregistered. You entered your Registration details in the Installer, when prompted, and these were accepted, or rejected? If they were rejected you have entered something incorrectly. All three parts -- name, address, and key, must be exactly right. If you entered them and they were accepted, then I know of no way they would be rejected by FSUIPC4 when you ran FSX, because they are using the same shared code for this. If this is what appears to be happening please show me the Install log and the FSUIPC4 log, both of which you'll find in the Modules folder. Nowadays you never have to run anything of mine "as administrator". Note that, until I release a new Install bundle, if you want to use an interim version (4.558, for instance) and register or re-register, you will need to delete FSUIPC4.DLL from the Modules folder, run the Installer, Register, THEN copy the 4.558 (or later) DLL into the Modules folder again. Sorry about this inconvenience. It is related to a problem with MSVCR80.DLL side-by-side versions and recent compiler updates. I am fixing it ready for the next main user release now, so it only affects interim update installations. Regards Pete
shearder Posted December 17, 2009 Author Report Posted December 17, 2009 Hi Pete I will add the log below but in response - the Unregistered message shows when I goto Add Ons and open FSUIPC then it shows me the version, after copying the DLL, for 4.558 once installed, and shows this version but says this is unregistered and to please use the installer to register. When i Do this it is 100% and closes. Then i start FSX and it remains Unregistered though the Log says registration is fine. On the same not, if i don't start FSX with Admin rights in the same dialogue where the buttons are to register via installer it says, just above the buttons, that it will need Admin to be able to register and run - sorry don't have exact wording but along those lines. I tried 4.23 that I found sometime ago and reinstalled Vista 64 on Tuesday. Then I installed Air Hauler which I believe updated this to 4.50 and then I decided I needed to now buy this as it is core to my cockpit. So i installed 4.53 and then copied the DLL. I must say that I tried MANY ways, 4.23, 4.50, then 4.53 then DLL and in no matter what order I would always have the same issue - saying not registered. I can forward my Email from SimMarket if necessary. I am currently re-installing Acceleration to "repair" and see. I also deleted it as trusted from the FSX.CFG file but did not help. Okay -- but it doesn't tell you to use Admin mode? It shouldn't, there's no such message there now. Then i start FSX and it remains Unregistered though the Log says registration is fine. On the same not, if i don't start FSX with Admin rights in the same dialogue where the buttons are to register via installer it says, just above the buttons, that it will need Admin to be able to register and run Hmm. That message is actually removed in 4.558, so I am at a loss. Can you show me a screen pic of that, please? I am currently re-installing Acceleration to "repair" and see. I also deleted it as trusted from the FSX.CFG file but did not help. Neither of those actions are a good idea. Registration for FSUIPC4 and WideFS was successful! (result code 00) Okay, that looks good. How long will i be able to get updated with the version i purchased? Should I have waited for v5.x? (will that be the next main release?) No. I need to find out why your FSUIPC4, installed correctly, says it is unregistered when the Installer, which uses the same code, says it is registered okay. Until we solve that strange problem, which I've never seen before, there will be no future update. You didn't show me the FSUIPC4 log file. I need to see that please -- a complete one, with FSX closed. Perhaps you can look to see if there is an FSUIPC4.KEY file in the Modules folder. If so, do NOT show it here but ZIP it and send it to me at petedowson@btconnect.com, please. If you do this you might as well include the two Log files so I have it all in one place. One minor thought. Can you check that your PC's system date is correct? Regards Pete

Pete Dowson Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 Here is the info from 4.53 and 4.558:... The message regarding the Admin Mode was 4.53... Yes, that was an overlooked hangover from FSUIPC3 and was only spotted by a new user recently. That's why it is fixed in 4.558. I've tried registering here using your details and keys and have no problem, so I am very concerned as to what is so different on your system for this to happen. There's nothing particularly complicated, and, as I said, the code checking your registration is the same -- in fact in 4.53 the Installer calls the registration checker in FSUIPC4 to do its checking. shearder Posted December 17, 2009 Author Report Posted December 17, 2009 Well it is basically a very fresh Vista 64 install. I have used it before and went back to XP to test spanning in FSX. However, all i have are printer drivers, NVidia drivers (Latest), sound drivers (creative), Nero 7, fsx, air hauler. Would it help to reinstall FSX? Completely delete the folder?
Pete Dowson Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 Well it is basically a very fresh Vista 64 install. I have used it before and went back to XP to test spanning in FSX. I tested on Win7 64 and WinXP 32, not yet Vista 64. I'll try that now, though it shouldn't be any different. Would it help to reinstall FSX? Completely delete the folder? No no! That creates a lot of different problems if you aren't careful. The SimConnect side-by-side libraries in particular seem to get quite messed up sometimes by reinstalls. Just as an experiment, could you try deleting the FSUIPC4.DLL file again, and re-running the Installer "as administrator" and re-registering? Theoretically it shouldn't make any difference as Installers have elevated admin rights in any case. But I'm at the stage now where any straws need clutching. Regards Pete

Another thought I had. you aren't Installing and Registering under a different Windows Log-On account to that used when running FSX, are you? I know it sounds unlikely, but it's another straw. Pete

Pete Dowson Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 Nope didn't work. I am installing and using in the same user name. Hmmm. I'm at a loss. This is a new problem, only time this has occurred in over three years. I'm sending some questions in Email, because it starts getting more complex now. We'll resume here when a conclusion has been reached. Pete
shearder Posted December 17, 2009 Author Report Posted December 17, 2009 Perfect. Thanks Pete for the assistance. Chat via email for now.
shearder Posted December 17, 2009 Author Report Posted December 17, 2009 Hi Pete Check your email. I won't post any info here yet - perhaps leave that to you to do in a better way :) OR shot and i shall post. Sean
shearder Posted December 17, 2009 Author Report Posted December 17, 2009 Hi Pete Ok with your constant assistance I finally figured out the "fix"... I remember changing the folder permissions to add my name not just in Admins but also my name directly and gave myself full permissions. This was because I edit a number of files from time to time and it is just easier in Vista to do this. SO - I removed my name and remained as Admin so there was no issue there then I deleted the modules folder and reinstalled FSUIPC 4.53 using ADMIN rights. Then tested and it worked. Then I closed FSX and copied FSUIPC dll 4.558 and tested and it worked. 1. I am part of admins 2. removed my "individual name from User names under the Security Tab 3. Removed Modules Folder completely 4. Reinstalled - right click > Run As Administrator 5. Inserted my keys and it worked. I know you said no need for 3, 4 and 5 but i did it anyway LOL I did this twice - 1st was as above, second same BUT left the keys out. Then just copied the key file and it worked. Now, strangely enough I did this ALL Over again and excluded 3, 4 and 5 and it worked again but prior did not show registered until i installed FSUIPC using Admin rights. The great thing though is that it works and for the whole day, almost (sun is still out LOL), you assisted either here or via email! Thanks again! Sean [a VERY happy cust-simmer ;) ]
