steve-o Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 I have an old Cirrus II console and avionics stack I am trying to get to work with FSX. I need to find out if the hardware is any good or not before I start getting financially devoted to making this work. Do I have to purchase FSUIPC to get the Cirrus II and the PFC driver working on FSX? I have installed all the drivers correctly, I get the connection screen, the avionics power up and work OK, but none of the controls, rudders, or other hardware tests or functions; I am greeted with cyclical incorrect strings in the serial output on the test screen. Before I dig in trying to figure out if there's a problem with the hardware, like dirty pots, can you enlighten me on the above? Thanks.
Pete Dowson Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 I have an old Cirrus II console and avionics stack I am trying to get to work with FSX. I need to find out if the hardware is any good or not before I start getting financially devoted to making this work. If it is old it might only support the Elite protocol, to work with the Elite simulator, not FS. Do I have to purchase FSUIPC to get the Cirrus II and the PFC driver working on FSX? No. Purchasing FSUIPC4 would give you more ways to assign buttons and switches or even the yoke and quadrant axes, but the PFCFSX.DLL module, installed into the Modules folder alongside FSUIPC4 works the same whether FSUIPC4 is registered or not. I have installed all the drivers correctly, I get the connection screen, the avionics power up and work OK, but none of the controls, rudders, or other hardware tests or functions; I am greeted with cyclical incorrect strings in the serial output on the test screen. It does sound like it is using the wrong protocol, but to be sure you'd need to ask PFC, quoting the serial number or some other identification. Regards Pete
steve-o Posted July 10, 2010 Author Report Posted July 10, 2010 Pete, Thanks. I thought I would follow up on this. There is a toggle switch under (as in remove the quadrants panel to access it) the Throttle Quadrants panel on the Cirrus II (this models anyway probably built in early 2000's). The toggle switch was set to the left with no markings. I flipped it to the right, labeled PFC, and everything began working like a champ. I make the assumption that the toggle to the left is to work with Elite, as that is the software that shipped with the unit. Thanks for the great plugins.

Some of the older free-standing throttle quadrant control units they made have such a switch. Pleased you got it sorted! Regards Pete
