Hi

Is there a way to use my wideFS to connect to a computer on a different network, i.e. over the internet?

What we want to do, is to use Luis Gordo's Instructor Panel to teach a jet operations course (JOC) on the VATSIM network. We are still in the planning phase and are desperately trying to sort this out.

We are also using a program called Hamatchi, so that we can connect both computers to the same network. All we need to do now (we think) is to tell WideFS where to look for the students computer.

Make sense? If not, please email me and I'll try to explain it some other way.

Thanks

Mike

Well, there's no specific restriction in my code over where the connection comes from. So you could try. How you'd do it I'm not sure.

If they are on the same network then what's likely to be the problem? Sorry, that confuses me somewhat.

There's only the ip address!

You'd need to make sure the port used wasn't being blocked (8002 by default). You don't need 9002 as well, that's just for the Server to broadcast its presence, and that certainly doesn't work even outside a local WorkGroup let alone over the Internet.

Hi Pete,

Thank you for you r reply. I have to say, I am a complete novise when it comes to networks, IP addresses, ports, and so on.

In other words, I have no idea how to set up WideFS so that it will look for a specific IP address. Not knowing any computer lingo, when reading through your pdf help file I don't understand a thing lol.

Do u ever frequent any of the teamspeak servers, i.e. Vatsim-UK?

Regards,

Mike

Please re-read the part of the User Guide headed:

Configure your Network

IT IS IMPORTANT FOR ALL USERS TO READ AT LEAST PART OF THIS!

After a few paragraphs you will reach this:

If you prefer you can use the Server’s IP address instead of the name, thus:

ServerIPAddr=192.168.0.3

The "IP address" should strike you as being relevant since that was what you knew you had to set, no?

No. All that stuff is far too complex for my aging feeble brain. Sorry.;-)
