Woxof Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 Pete, I recently did a new install of FSX Deluxe on a new computer, running Windows 7, 64-bit. I installed 30 or so after-market aircraft and several add-ons, including vasFMC 1.10, FSBuild 2.4.0.18, ASE build 647, and Squawkbox 4.0.0 (8669). I tested FSX after each installation except the Squawkbox (I was holding off until I had FSUIPC4 installed) and everything seemed to be fine. Then I installed FSUIPC4 4.703 and got the successful install message. But FSX now will not start; it throws a fatal error during loading. If I remove the Modules folder (I saved it) and start it, FSX runs fine. I found what sounded like a similar problem in a post on your forums, and tried the solution you suggested, grabbing the 4.727 version of the .dll from the Downloads dir and running with it. No difference. Here are 4 files: the FSUIPC4 4.703 install log, the load logs for 4.703 and 4.727, and the dll.xml file. And, I wondered if the FSUIPC4 path was properly written -- I don't know what it should be, but it didn't look right to my novice's eyes. I also noticed a post someplace in your forum about Active Sky being the culprit in a similar situation, but I don't even see a listing for it in the dll.xml. Hmm. Please let me know if there's any other information I can provide that might help solve this one. And thanks in advance for your help. Woxof
Pete Dowson Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 I recently did a new install of FSX Deluxe on a new computer, running Windows 7, 64-bit. What are the details of this "fatal error"? Are you certain it isn't the infamous SimConnect trust bug (see fsx fails to run after fsuipc4 first installed)? Here are 4 files: the FSUIPC4 4.703 install log, the load logs for 4.703 and 4.727, and the dll.xml file. Ah, if it is getting as far as producing a run-time log, it is not the "trust" bug. However both run-time logs show what the problem is: Trying to connect to SimConnect Acc/SP2 Oct07 ...... 359 SimConnect_Open succeeded: waiting to check version okay 1326 Exception 5 "VERSION_MISMATCH", Ref 1, Version 0.61242: Open: SimConnect Version incorrect! That is indicative of a Simconnect installation problem. Looking back to the Install log: Checking version of FSX.EXE:... Version 10.0.61355.0 (Need at least 10.0.60905.0) Checking compatibility with installed SimConnect: Found SimConnect build 60905 (Original) Found SimConnect build 61242 (SP1 May07) Found SimConnect build 61259 (Acc/SP2 Oct07) it appears that you have updated FSX to only SP1 level (61355), but you have the SP2/Accel version of SimConnect installed. FSUIPC always wants to use the most up to date one you have, but the two are not compatible and it is that which is causing the fatal error. The proper solution is to install either the FSX SP2 update, or Acceleration if you have it. I would recommend this is any case as it fixes many FSX bugs. For information, FSX.EXE version numbers are: 10.0.60905 = RTM 10.0.61355 = SP1 (10.0.61357 for Russian version) 10.0.61472 = SP2 10.0.61637 = Acceleration. The SimConnect version is the same for SP2 and Acceleration. [LATER] This has prompted me to change FSUIPC4 so that it checked the FSX.EXE version and refuses to use a later version of SimConnect. This will probably get around your problem -- though the recommended solution remains the same, get your FSX installation up to date. If you want to try the updated version download 4.728 from the Download Links subforum. Regards Pete
Woxof Posted September 12, 2011 Author Report Posted September 12, 2011 Pete, Thanks very much for the quick reply. Here's how it went: I downloaded SP2 from Microsoft. When I ran it, I saw that it only showed two options, to repair FSX or to uninstall SP2. Hmm. No install. But the repair option was grayed out. My only choice was uninstall, so I ran it. When it was done, I ran it again, thinking I could now reinstall. Nope. Instead I got a message that SP2 required the English language version of FSX, and the install terminated. What!?! What does this bleep bleeping machine think I'm running here? Then I tried to start FSX. My FSX.exe file "could not be found". Uh oh. So I walked away and thought about it for a while. I decided that since FSX had been rolled back a ways -- a long ways, maybe even back further than SP1 -- I should install SP1. Which I did. And it installed successfully. And then I tried SP2, which ran just fine and installed successfully. Then I started FSX, with the Modules folder and FSUIPC4 in place. And it worked. Whew. Here's my FSUIPC4 log file: ********* FSUIPC4, Version 4.727 by Pete Dowson ********* Reading options from "D:\Simulations\FSX\Modules\FSUIPC4.ini" Trying to connect to SimConnect Acc/SP2 Oct07 ... Thanks very much for helping me solve this vexing puzzle. Woxof
