Kurt2404 Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Good morning everbody, I had FSX + FSUIPC 4 + WideFS successfully running on my main PC (Win 7 Home Permium 64 bit) in connection with a networked Laptop and PlanG since almost a year or so. Some days ago I decided to move the complete FSX installation from my main HDD to a much faster SSD. To keep all settings I mounted the SSD as "Microsoft Flight Simulator X" on the same location in the tree as FSX has been before and simply moved the whole content of the (perviousley safed) original folder into this new drive. Everything worked so far perfect (less stutters due to slow texture loading), just ASE (whicht remained on the HDD) requested a new registration verification. Now to my first problem: FSUIPC seems to work so far but I can't connect to my Laptop via WideFS any more. The network itself seems to work, because I could mount net drives pointing to folders on my main PC from my Laptop. I enclose below the contents of the ini and log files for both WideFS server and client. Anybody any idea what I'm doning wrong? There are just very few keys left to be used as send button without interfering other functions - one of them is the STRG, which works perfectly on the keyboard in cooperation with the TS client. But I did not find a solution to tie by stick button 4 with the STRG key via FSUIPC. Any hint would be appreciated. Thanks in advance to all helpers! Kind regards Kurt

I enclose below the contents of the ini and log files for both WideFS server and client. Anybody any idea what I'm doning wrong? It looks like some sort of firewall block, because Windows is providing the IP Address (which I assume is correct?) but it doesn't appear then to let anything also get transmitted to the Server? 187 Attempting to connect now 187 Trying TCP/IP host "GABI-PC-2010" port 8002 ... 187 ... Okay, IP Address = 192.168.0.186 21232 Error on client pre-Connection Select() [Error=10060] Connection timed out Additionally you are using a very old and completely unsupportable version of FSUIPC: UpdatedByVersion=4530 The earliest supported version is 4.70 and the current version is 4.742, with a 4.743 update available in Download Links subforum. The second problem: I'm mainly flying helicopters using a Saitek X52 + Proflight pedals. But I did not find a solution to tie by stick button 4 with the STRG key via FSUIPC. Any hint would be appreciated. Sorry, I've no idea what a "STRG" key even is. FSUIPC supports Ctrl, Shift, Tab, Win, App and Menu as shift functions, and in any combination, but they must be accompanied by one graphic or normal key. (i.e. a non-shift key). You can sometimes get away by putting any old key is then editing the INI file to change it to a "null" instead (keycode 00. Regards Pete
Kurt2404 Posted October 31, 2011 Author Report Posted October 31, 2011 Hi Pete, thanks for your fast reply! In the meantime I did: update FSUIPC to version 4.743 update WideFS to version 6.86 (registration with the present key worked perfect for both) invent exception rules for the Windows firewall of my stationary FSX-PC for incoming and outgoing data traffic to and from WideClient.exe on my laptop The result was none - no change at all. The only thing I realised was that FSX does not show the message line "waiting for clients". FSUIPC reacts normal, PlanG (installed on the PC) connects easily with FSX. The most disturbing thing is that I did nothing but copying the complete content of the FSX-folder from one location to another. And I don't have any clue what kills the data transfer between FUIPC and WideClient... Any other ideas how to find the reason for this problem? Regarding the second topic: Thats the problem when someone is using a keyboard which is designed for a different language (my native tongue is German)... My STRG-key is exactly your CTRL! I got the confirmation from your answer that the CTRL-key may only be transmitted in connection with any other key. And this exactly my problem: This CTRL+xx combinations influence other programs quite often. TS accepts easily just the CTRL as push to talk key and the CRTL-key alone does not interfere with any other software. Regards Kurt
Pete Dowson Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 The only thing I realised was that FSX does not show the message line "waiting for clients". Have you enabled WideServer in FSUIPC? If it is enabled then it automatically updates the FSX title bar. There's no message line -- the title bar is only displayed if you run FSX in Windowed mode, of course. And I don't have any clue what kills the data transfer between FUIPC and WideClient. There's no data transfer that was being 'killed'. The server knows nothing about the client. The error you got before, Error on client pre-Connection Select() [Error=10060] Connection timed out most certainly means that WideClient PC cannot connect to the Server port in FSX. Searching with Google, this is the most complete answer I can find: WSAETIMEDOUT - Error 10060 Product: Version: Platform: All All All Question/Problem: Connection timed out. Answer/Solution: A connect or send request failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time. (The timeout period is dependent on the communication protocol.) Check the obvious first: check that the destination address is a valid IP address. If you used a hostname, did it resolve to the correct address? If the hostname resolution uses a local host table, it is possible you resolved to an obsolete address. Can you ping that hostname? Do you have a router configured? Is the router up and running? (You can check by pinging it, and then ping an address on the other side of it.) Try a traceroute to the destination address to check that all the routers are functioning. Check your subnet mask. If you don't have the proper subnet mask, your network system may treat a local address as a remote address (so it forwards addresses on the local subnet to the router, rather than broadcasting an ARP request locally), or vice versa. I'm sorry that I cannot help more than looking things up. I am not a network expert, and WideFS simply uses basic methods copied from Microsoft examples. Whenever I've had network problems I've had to resolve them by trial and error. Incidentally, Windows Explorer, which you say allows you to access each PCs disks from the other, uses UDP protocol, not TCP. UDP has much less error checking, so you could see if that works. If may be getting so many errors it times out retrying. If so I'd suggest you need a better connection -- certainly not wireless, for instance. I understand that, but FSUIPC does not easily access shift keys like CTRL on their own. It might work if you set it to send Ctrl+A then edited the INI file and changed the A keycode (65) by null (0). This solutin is suggested somewhere in the documentation I think, but not prominently as it isn't always a workable solution. Regards Pete
Kurt2404 Posted October 31, 2011 Author Report Posted October 31, 2011 Hi Pete, you safed my day! I don't operate my FSX in windowed mode, so no information line is present --> solved The Windows-Firewall needed just the port 8002 to be added as outgoing and incoming rule --> solved Your hint for the CTRL-key worked perfect --> solved Many thanks for your perfect service! Kind regards Kurt
Pete Dowson Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 you safed my day! Ah, good! Not too difficult then! Good flying! Pete
