Pete Dowson Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 I just installed FS2004 on my new PC on a Win7 OS. When klicking FSUIPC in the FS menue, the screen becomes black and remains ... what can I do ? This is almost always a result of a bad video driver or a mismatching dialogue module installed by it. FSUIPC is not actually responsible for making the dialogue -- Windows is. The answer is to download and install a proper driver for your video card (do NOT use the default one installed by Win7). An alternative if you won't do that or cannot find a driver which works correctly is to run FS in Windowed mode, or switch to Windowed made when accessing add-on dialogues. Regards Pete
CaptainBlond Posted November 3, 2011 Author Report Posted November 3, 2011 Thanks Pete ... very fast support ! as I don`t find an adequate driver right now (I have installed the actual one), I`ll do my tasks with FSUIPC in windowed mode so long. That works for the time being. Thank You !!
drw431 Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 Hello, Have the same issue with my system, when I click on FSUIPC the window goes black and FSUIPC opens. I can manipulate things in FSUIPC but can't see my panel, Nothing I have seen in the forums has worked for me. My video card is a GTX580 and I have the latest Nvidia drivers for it. I have tried windowed mode and full screen mode and still not change, I have ensured that the resolution is the same in both windows and FSX. Don't know if these would make a difference, I have my screen over three monitors with tripleheadtogo. I have FSX on its own hard drive, FSUIPC.dll is in the modules folder on the drive that has FSX. Am running in windows 7. Interestingly enough, I have two other computers networked and I use them to run the gauges on my home cockpit panel. One of these computers still has FSX loaded on it from before I upgraded to my latest Jetline System PC. When I went back to that computer to see how things use to be, the same issues is there with the black screen when I open FSUIPC. Any suggestions would be great!!! I must be doing something stupid that I don't realize!!! Thanks Dave Willson

I can manipulate things in FSUIPC but can't see my panel, That's not an issue, let alone the "same issue"! That's how it works, the way Microsoft implemented the facility in FSX for add-ons to utilise modal dialogues (modal = stops the main program running). Any suggestions would be great!!! I must be doing something stupid that I don't realize!!! In all the five+ years that FSX has been like this, no one has found this to be a problem. It is just the way things were implemented by Microsoft. Regards Pete
drw431 Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 Thanks Pete, That makes sense to me because that is the way I have been using it for the past 4-5 years. I saw the other posts regarding black screens and thought it was the same thing. What I have not done until now is make mouse macros. I guess this is where I am missing something. On page 38-39 of the manual it talks about creating the mouse traps...."and whenever you click the mouse or use the wheel, on any part of the screen where FSUIPC thinks it might be able to provide a control, you will get a multiline message popping up on the screen...." The example is with the kingair. Do I not have to be able to see the screen and the panel to do this? This is why I thought the screen should not be black. Hopefully this isn't another stupid question!!!!! Dave Willson
Pete Dowson Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 That makes sense to me because that is the way I have been using it for the past 4-5 years. I saw the other posts regarding black screens and thought it was the same thing. No, they are about a problem where, in full screen mode at least, some video drivers don't even draw the dialogue, so you get just a black screen, nothing else. The only things you do in the options dialogue is tell FSUIPC to go into Mouse macro making mode, and provide the file name for the macro file it will make, and, when you've finished making the macros, again to end that mode to let FSUIPC save all those macros correctly and make them available for assigning. To actually make each macro, after enabling the mode, you have to have the aircraft actually running, else how can you operate its switches etc, and see it working? The user guide section on this does explain all this. You seem to be skipping some paragraphs! Regards Pete
