Hi everyone and Pete,

I have a question about the use of the AutoShutdown command.

I run FSX with FSUIPC 4.72 and wideFS both registered. This PC runs on Vista ultimate.

In a client PC with WideCLient 6.75, I run Project Magenta's suite (MCP+CDU+GC). This PC runs with WIndows XP SP3.

The connection of the 2 PCs with WideFs/WideClient works fine, PM works fine and I see the connection mentionned in the title bar of FSX.

There are two things I would like to do.

- First load PM suite at WideCLient startup : this is done and works with the [user] section of the WideClient.ini file where I wrote :

Run1=E:\PFD\pfd.exe

Run2=E:\MCP\mcp.exe

Run3=E:\CDU\cdu.exe

- Second : i would like the PM Suite to close when closing FSX and make it restart when restarting FSX..

So I wrote in FSUIPC4.ini file a user section (there was no user section initially) which is :

[user]

AutoShutdown=Apps

In the WideClient.ini file under the [user] section I also wrote :

Close1=yes

Close2=yes

Close3=yes

AllowShutdown=AppOnly.

Like so I don't have the expected action : PM suite doesn't close after closing FSX.

Is it possible, did I make a mistake and how could I have this action working ?

Thank you very much for your attention and for making such softwares for us.

Nothing wrong with any of that, but you need to know that Wideclient 6.75 is out of date and unsupported. The oldest supported version is 6.86, but version 6.91 is available.

Similarly the latest FSUIPC is 4.759. See the Download Links subforum for updates.

There is no [user] section in FSUIPC4.INI because it doesn't do anything, it would be ignored. Programs started by FSUIPC via the [Programs] section are shutdown by parameters in the same line which starts them, like CLOSE and KILL. The WideServer "AutoShutdown" facility is part of the [WideServer] section, as are all Server parameters in FSUIPC4.

Like so I don't have the expected action : PM suite doesn't close after closing FSX.

I think this is because of two things:

1. The misplacement of the parameter in FSUIPC4.INI.

2. The use of "Run" and "Close" for your client apps. You must have missed the explanation of what "AutoShutdown=Apps" does. This bit is important:

Set it to ‘Apps’ if you want WideServer to tell clients to close down only any “CloseReady” applications when FS is closed normally.

You should use "RunReady" and "CloseReady" for that closing action. If you also want WideClient to close, so that Run and Close do the job, then you'd need to use "AutoShutdown=Yes".

Note that, whilst FSUIPC does delay the FSX closing to some extent to allow time for WideServer to distribute the messages about clusure to all clients, it can happen that FSX closes so fast in any case that not all clients see this. I always assign a keypress, Ctrl+Shift+E, to activate the WideServer shutdown facility, before closing FSX. This always works, even with my 8 client PCs. Check the ShutdownHotKey and CloseAppsHotKey parameters.

Thank you for such a fast answer !

I changed for RunReady and CloseReady and also used "AutoShutdown=Apps" in the right place in FSUIPC4.ini.

It now works the way I wished.

Thank you again.

Just one litlle thing : I updated WideClient and the new version caused an antivirus (AVG) warning.

Of course I allowed it to work in AVG.

Odd. I use AVG as well without such a warning. Mind you mine isd the Free version.

There is nothing wrong with WideClient.exe. The code is compressed and only expanded in memory when loaded. Any virus indicated is a spurious indication. It is also codesigned so you can check it hasn't been tampered with. Just right click on it and select Properties - Signature, select the signature entry for details and make sure it says it is okay. That confirms it can't have been changed.

Once again thank you for your support.

I checked the signature,of course it is mentionned as a valid signature, made by simFlight GMBH.

I also use the free version of AVG.

Best regards.
