Problems with FSUIPC 3.06 and Squawkbox 2.3

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I have a problem with FSUIPC 3.06 (not registered - yet :-)) and Squawkbox 2.3. I start SBRelay, then open FS9, run SBHost, and then connect to VATSIM via Squawkbox.

Now I have the problem that when i try to send a transmission, i get a server automated message that i am on a wrong frequency (even if I am von 122.8, thats the Unicom if doesn't seem to work) and it also says to me that I have to download and install FSUIPC. But it's already installed.....

The strange thing is that I can chat with anybody there on 122.8 but I don't see any other frequencies I can select, even if I am in a covered area like an airport with tower support.

The second strange thing is that I see myself on the map at Whazzup (registered) but only at the departure airport also if I am enroute to a destination. I also can't see my flightplan at Whazzup.

I am not sure if somebody could help me because I cannot say where the problem is.

Thx Daniel

Have you entered the access code for Squawkbox 2.3 into FSUIPC's program registration dialogue? Check your FSUIPC.KEY file. If Squawkbox isn't listed there, then you haven't registered it so it has no access. The free registration code is in the list in one of the messages near the top of this Forum.

As for Whazzup, it has got an accreditation code to allow it to access FSUIPC, but I don't know if that is built in or not, nor what version. You'd need to check with Project Magenta support.

Neither of these things is needed for user registered copies of FSUIPC, but otherwise you need to register freeware programs if they don't do it themselves, and make sure you have the correct FS2004-ready versions of others.

Pete

Yes I registered Squawkbox 2.3 with your registration code succesfull and it's also listed in the FSUIPC.KEY file.

It seems for me that the Squawkbox program doesn't recognize that I have your FSUIPC already installed and informs me that I have to download it.... But I otherwise I wonder that I can start SB and connect to VATSIM or IVAO...

Do you heard about similiar problems like this?

Thx

No. Maybe there are other SB users who can help. But please, also check for me your FSUIPC.LOG file. Does it show Squawkbox connecting at all? Can you show me it?

Daniel,

The automated messages you are getting from the server are caused by something incorrect in your position or frequency data coming through FSUIPC. By far the most likely cause of this is that you haven't registered Squawkbox successfully. Check that you entered the following details:

Program Name: 'Squawkbox' (no quotes, and no '.exe')

Key: LWVQ 7I2V 9GPB

The correct program name here is 'Squawkbox' not 'Squawkbox 2.3'. This may well be what's wrong.

Pete: could you check your freeware keys post and ensure that this is updated to the correct application name of 'Squawkbox'.

Hi Jamie!

But I'm sure :-), that I've typed "Squawkbox" and I verified the code for more than x-times.

I also intentionally tried a wrong code and I know that you will get an error messsage.

But with the correct code, I got an OK, and I could click on "Confirm" and the code is also listed at FSUIPC.KEY

:-)

Yes, but a "legal" code is not the same one as a correct code for that program. The check is only on the basic integrity of the Key. The actual check needs not only the program EXE name, as entered, but also details from the program's Version Information, which is not known until you run the program. Please check these details against those in the Free Keys list earlier in this Forum.

You mean I should run the Squawkbox and then enter the code?

No, certainly not. I mean that the code may not be correct for that copy of Squawkbox. That's why I said to check the FSUIPC log after you've run SB. Also to double-check the Key you are entering and the SB exe's details against those in the list above.

OK, here is the FSUIPC.LOG, a little bit long, I hope thats no problem. But I want to add that the registration under applications for SB 2.3 seems to be OK. The code was typed in like LWVQ-7I2V-9GPB and above I typed in "Squawkbox" without the qoutes.

Hopes the LOG file helps you....for me it's just a textfile :-)

But I want to add that the registration under applications for SB 2.3 seems to be OK. The code was typed in like LWVQ-7I2V-9GPB and above I typed in "Squawkbox" without the qoutes.

There's no "-" characters in the Key, but it wouldn't have taken those in any case. The correct name according to the list published in the Forum is "SquawkBox". The capital B may be important (I'm not sure -- but it is always best to be accurate).

The real problem is this:

78391 Client Application: "SQUAWK~1" (Id=2092)

78391 F:\FS2004\ADDONP~1\SQUAWK~1\SQUAWK~1.EXE

78391 Product="SquawkBox 2.3"

78391 Company="None"

78391Program not accredited for use with this unregistered FSUIPC

The program actually running is appearing as "SQUAWK~1" not as SquawkBox, so the key will never match. How are you running the SquawkBox program? That sort of name is a DOS type 8-character abbreviation for it. In fact the whole path is a DOS abbreviated path:

F:\FS2004\ADDONP~1\SQUAWK~1\SQUAWK~1.EXE

Surely you are not running this from a DOS batch file or similar? What operating system are you using? It seems very odd to see this sort of abbreviation these days, and certainly none of the Keys will work with an abbreviated program name.

Try using RunOptions and getting FSUIPC to load it for you, using its real name and path.

BTW the log also shows you are not running an accredited version of Whazzup:

80485 Client Application: "WhazzUp" (Id=3076)

80485 F:\FS2004\ADDONP~1\WhazzUp\WhazzUp.exe

80485 Product="WhazzUp"

80485 Company="Enrico Schiratti"

80485Program not accredited for use with this unregistered FSUIPC

You need to check with the Project Magenta site for an update with a correct access key.

Regards,

Pete

Hi!

Yes I'm sure...I placed a shortcut on the desktop but I also started SB with "Start->Run" under Windows XP Professional. But why is my computer using a DOS abbreviation path?

Please could you describe how I can let FSUIPC load this program?

Regards

Daniel

I've no idea. What do you actually type into Start-Run? "Squawkbox"? Is the program actually named "SquawkBox.exe" in its folder? Maybe it is actually named with the DOS shortcut -- maybe the folder as well?

The folder name doesn't matter much to FSUIPC, but the program name is critical. If it is misnamed please just try renaming it to "SquawkBox.exe" (right click it, select Rename, and edit the name).

Possibly some installer or unzipper used the DOS abbreviations? Maybe a very old DOS or Windows unzipper?

Please could you describe how I can let FSUIPC load this program?

It's described in the Advanced Users guide, but there's an easy way -- download Jose's "Run Options" program from http://www.schiratti.com/dowson. that does it for you.

But it still won't work if the name is wrong. Check that first, and rename it to its correct name if it is wrong.

Regards,

Pete

hey Pete...first off let me say I really appreciate what you do for the fs community as a whole...I am also having this problem and its very frustrating...is there any way you could post a past version of FSUIPC for us to use for now? Also, here is a copy of my log file if you would care to compare.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew Yaggie

P.S. I believe during this attempt I was successful in getting all 3 programs, (Flight Simulator, Squakbox, and SBRelay) to work correctly with FSUIPC, however inside Squakbox there was an error with the radios which told me to download fsuipc & read the readme...have done that many times.

I think this one should certainly be fine with the access key correctly entered. Check the FSUIPC.KEY file. Does it have the Squawkbox entry listed?

If you are getting the "not accredited" message then it simply means the access key hasn't been entered. You don't need to keep downloading FSUIPC and re-reading some readme, that won't really help. Let me see the [Programs] section from the FSUIPC.KEY file, please. For example, if you entered it as "Squakbox" it won't work.

Pete

In windows XP and in DOS it's named squawkbox.exe. Tha file name seems to be OK.

Really strange because I had a very old version of FSUIPC (2.7.6) and this works fine.

Do know perhaps know where I can get the FSUIPC 2.9.7.5?... I used it for my FS2002 and I think it would also work with FS9 without this error. Perhaps you can send me this file with mail?

What I also wanted to say is that I can chat with other people via Squawkbox but I can't select frequencies... and I'm not even sure if I'm chatting on UNICOM - 122.8 - because the other people also say they have the same problem with this "server automated message", that they should first download FSUIPC....

Regards

Daniel

There's was no access checking before version 3.

It won't work. The first version of FSUIPC which works with FS2004 was 3.00.

What I also wanted to say is that I can chat with other people via Squawkbox but I can't select frequencies.
.

But this is only because Squawkbox is not being allowed access to FSUIPC, and that is only because the name of the porgram, as it is being run, is not right. Just run it as Squawkbox, and make sure it has the correct Access Key entered, and it should work fine. I really don't know where you are getting those strange abbreviated names from.

Pete

Hallo Pete!

I have fixed my problem :D !

My operating system is Win XP Pro and I have my boot partition in the NTFS file format and the game on FAT32. Win XP always tried to convert the long filename into the 8.3 abbreviation.

I fixed it like this:

You have to change a key in the registry - it's at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation. You have to change it from "0" to "1"!

The "0" means that everytime I create a file with a long filename (like squawkbox.exe), Win XP also creates a second fileentry with the 8.3 abbreviation. And if I tried to start Squawkbox XP was always looking for the 8.3 file and FSUIPC couldn't recognize the real squawkbox.exe because of Squawk~1.exe.

Hope perhaps I could help somebody here with the same problem...

@ Pete: Thanks for your support! You're doing a great job here! Thanks a lot!
