maddyn340 Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 Hello everyone! Back in my FS2004 days I used a tool named FsRaas V2 to enhance my simulator experience with a RAAS. However now, with a newly built PC and FSX, it does not work anymore. When on a runway the voice says "on runway" and then turns silent until being relaunched and saying "on runway" again. I know there has been a topic in this forum because of a similar issue. Unfortunately that one could not be solved. At the end of this post you will find a FSUIPC logfile from a flight I did in order to demonstrate my problem. I hope it can help to find a solution as I am really into all kind of automatic announcements and so. Enjoy the rest of your holiday, Pete, and thanks in advance! Pete Dowson Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 Okay, I can investigate that now. Could you do it once more, please, but this time enable IPC write logging in the FSUIPC logging tab before running FSRaas? (Don't press anything else in that tab). The log from that should nail it down more exactly. [LATER] Okay. I found a copy of FSRaas20 and ran it with my FSX setup, and it works fine. Looking again at the crash report in the Log I think it is crashing in one of the sound functions provided by Windows. Without knowing just what system DLL is located at memory addresses 77418E19 and 76F48E19 I can't really advise the exact action you might need to take, but the following come to mind: 1. Uninstall the sound device, whether it be an add-in board or the main motherboard (all my PCs only use main mobo sound). Re-boot to let Windows reload the sound stuff. 2. If you are using an add-on sound card, try the mobo sound system instead. 3. Try reinstalling FSRAas20 altogether, removing all previous files, in case it is down to a corrupted file. FSRaas is using FSUIPC's sound facilities to play the sounds, and FSUIPC calls the Windows sound facilities to play them. I am pretty sure it is somewhere in those where the crash is occurring. Since it works fine here I can't really delve any deeper. Pete
maddyn340 Posted October 10, 2014 Author Report Posted October 10, 2014 I use the onboard sound card and tried out the following: Uninstall sound driver and uninstall the sound devices listed in the device manager, then reinstall the realtek sound driver. I rebooted in between and tested FsRaas with no improvement. I'm sorry, but I can't think what else could be wrong other than a corrupted "on runway.wav" file. Does it play okay on its own, through Windows media player or somethnig? Pete
maddyn340 Posted October 10, 2014 Author Report Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) The sound files should be okay. I removed "on runway.wav" from the folder which resulted in an error just after playing the second sound. I even made a wav-file myself and replaced the original one with that. Is there a way to change the sound device FSUIPC uses? Do I understand correctly that the corresponding FSX settings have no effect on the way FSUIPC plays sounds? [Next Idea] Would it be possible that there is some kind of library or so missing on my system? Some Visual C++ packages or something similar? Thank you very much for your support! Although we have not yet found a solution I highly appreciate your effort! Edited October 10, 2014 by maddyn340

Do I understand correctly that the corresponding FSX settings have no effect on the way FSUIPC plays sounds? Thank you very much for your support! Although we have not yet found a solution I highly appreciate your effort! The sound devices which the App can choose from are listed in the FSUIPC INI file. It is probably using the default, which you can change in Windows Control Panel I think. Would it be possible that there is some kind of library or so missing on my system? Some Visual C++ packages or something similar? Maybe, but that should never cause a crash like that. It definitely sounds like a broken driver. See if there's an update available. Maybe in a collection of stuff for your motherboard. Pete
maddyn340 Posted October 16, 2014 Author Report Posted October 16, 2014 Hi Pete! Thanks for all your support but I'm afraid there is nothing left I can do. my FSUIPC INI file does not even have a sound section or any sound info at all. I found the topic someone with a similar problem had started. The only thing that worked was a complete computer reset, something I am not going to do at the moment. However, I will tell you whenever I find an appropriate solution. Thank you! Martin
Carob Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 Hello. I wanted to jump in here and say that this same issue is happening with my father's new Jetline system he just got. When FsRaas is running it shows connected. When taxiing to a runway FsRaas says "Approaching" and that's all. Different airports, different runways, different aircraft... that's all that happens. No other sound is heard the entire time. If everything is quit and started again, the exact same thing happens. Only the very first word FsRaas is trying to play is heard and nothing more. FSUIPC 4.937 with FSX. Using FSUIPC 6.995 with FS9 and it works fine there. I too am searching for an answer to this but so far have come up empty.
maddyn340 Posted October 17, 2014 Author Report Posted October 17, 2014 Does it work with FS9 on the same computer? That would be somehow interesting.

Carob Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 Are older version of FSUIPC available somewhere? I don't see them on Pete's site. I'd like to try a couple of older versions ofr FSX to see if something broke in that along the way somewhere.

I'd like to try a couple of older versions ofr FSX to see if something broke in that along the way somewhere. I really don't think there's any point. The problem is somewhere deep in DirectSound, or in the sound drivers themselves. And FSRaas20.exe works perfectly well here on two different Win7 PCs, as I think I previously reported. That's with the current FSUIPC of course, but the sound facilities in FSUIPC haven't changed since around FS2002 days. Pete

Which nobody, in multiple forums, seems to know. If I could reproduce the problem, I could possibly help. All I can tell from the information you have and we can get is that a call to the sound part of DirectX (DirectSound), part of Windows, is crashing on yours and some other systems, but not on either of mine. And the code performing the calls in FSUIPC, on behalf of FSRAAS, is the same code that has been doing this now for many years. Maybe the FSRAAS programmers can help. Note that i have FSRAAS because I too used to use it all the time. Nowadays I use a payware produce for RAAS which I think performs better and which is more complete. http://www.fs2crew.com/cart/products/FS2Crew%3A-RAAS-Professional.html Regards Pete

Please see previous answers. This is not an FSUIPC problem, but something else in your system. Pete
