Hello all, this is my first post. I have been using FSX for years and only use the free FSUIPC because it was installed by Jetline when they built my PC. I have FSX Gold, Win 7 64, and Saitek yoke, throttle (one so far), and pedals.

Presently I use a combination of FSX's built-in control and Saitek's SST. But I have been reading for years about how much better the pay-ware version of FSUIPC is. I'd love to learn it but I'm an old dog and it looks like it has a steep learning curve.

I fly mostly the NGX and the Duke V2 Turbine.

I looked at YT's and couldn't find a decent one that really explains how to use it for a beginner.

Does anyone know if there's a specific tutorial that would show how to use it with my equipment? Plus I want to buy a second throttle soon so I'd like to know how to program it for the throttles, reversers, spoilers and flaps.

Any help would be very much appreciated as I need something like an "Idiot's Guide" if you know what I mean.

Thank you.

After you install it you will finf the there is documentation explaining everything in the FSUIPC Documents subfolder, in the Modules folder. The "User Guide" contains everything, including step-by-step (with pictures and numbers to help) calibration.

Unless you want to do ambitious things, it is simple. It is like a box of tools --.you just use the ones you understand and need.

Hi Pete, it's a pleasure to actually speak to the legend who created this module.

Before I commit to buy though I'd like more of my questions answered, remember I am a total newbie.

1. Is there a link where I can look at the manual first to see if it will be too difficult for me?

2. No one ever answered about the Saitek yoke, throttle, and pedals, I have seen many times where people have trouble getting reversers to work with FSUIPC.

3. Again, do you know of any video tutorial where they show very specificially how to set up my Saitek gear to work with FSUIPC?

4. I don't really want to buy something I'll be completely frustrated with, that I can't figure out. This all goes back to posts I have seen on many forums where people have difficulties with Saitek gear.

Thanks Pete.

You don't need to buy it. Just install it and the documentation will be installed. There are many more users who have not bought it than those who have, mainly because it is used by so many other applications -- that was always its main purpose, for which it is free to users. Things like joystick assignments and calibrations are additional user facilities which purchasers get, but it isn't its main purpose at all.

Saitek are just joystick devices like any other. I don't like them, but that's just my personal opinion. But they are all alike as far as FSUIPC (and FS for thatmatter) are concerned. They are HID (Human Interface Devices) controlled and interfaced by Windows. FSUIPC reads them, if you wish, just like FS does, it just provides a wider variety of assignment and calibration options.

Reverser methods depend more on the model of aircraft you are adding, and how it treats throttles. PMDG aircraft tend to be different from the rest, and, of course, good Airbus implementations act like real Airbuses which don't have true throttles in any case, just thrust modes.

Without FSUIPC setting up reversers is a lot more difficult on most aircraft. FS doesn't have separate inputs for them.

3. Again, do you know of any video tutorial where they show very specificially how to set up my Saitek gear to work with FSUIPC?

No.

Use FS itself then. I'm not advising you to buy it. I'm actually not sure even why you think you might want FSUIPC if you've seen so much difficulty with it, so much criticism, and no one complaining about the same things with FS?

Thanks, I just wanted it for more flexibility, everyone tells me to use it.

I have the freeware version of FSUIPC becuase I guess it's required for some things.

I didn't say everyone in the world is having probelsm with it. Just that I saw some people with issues with just Siatek stuff.

Not afraid to try new things, I just wanted to know if it will work with Saitek stuff and the NGX and the Duke V2 Turbine, epecially in reverse mode.

Please understand that I am new to this, one has to start out as a newbie on things doesn't one?

Thanks for your answers.

The freeware version is the same version. The documentation is already in your FSUIPC Documents folder, just as the Installation & Registration document explained (the one in the download ZIP).

I understand Saitek have a support forum. You could check there for Saitek problems. I don't think there are any specific to FSUIPC. The only regular problem I ever see here which is specific to Saitek is that somehow their installer screws up some parameters in the Registry which can make one or two of the quadrant levers operate digitally (i.e. on/off, not smooth). I'm sure that one must have been fixed by now. And it wouldn't be specific to use in FSUIPC in any case.

FSUIPC doesn't care or know about specific devices nor about specific aircraft add-ons (excepting only that it does have mapped values for the PMDG 737NGX). I think you need to peruse the documentation, I get the feeling that you might be confusing FSUIPC with a device driver.

Yes, fine. I am only explaining that FSUIPC doesn't appear to be what you think it might be, that's all.

If you read the document which came with the downloaded file, it tells you where to find the documentation which in turn tells you what FSUIPC does.
