Apologies if this has been asked and answered before, but "SET" is a difficult search term when trying to narrow down results.

A bit of an elementary question, but what are "SET" controls in FSX/FSUIPC?  ON, OFF, TOGGLE all make sense to me, but for many controls there exists also a SET control.  Examples:

MIXTURE1_SET 65919

NAV1_RADIO_SET 65708

RADIO_ADF2_IDENT_SET 66560

RUDDER_SET 65696

TRUE_AIRSPEED_CAL_SET 66043

Thanks!

All the SET controls, like AXIS_XXXXX_SET, appear to take a value in the parameter field and set that value. This is in contrast to INC, DEC and TOGGLE of course.

I didn't name any of these controls and only found out what they did by trying them. I still don't know what they all do, and some probably don't work in any case.

Because SET controls act like this, I've included most, if not all, of them in the Axis assignments drop-down list.

In FSX and P3D, FSUIPC has to use quite a few SET controls to set values which are written via offsets in the application interface.

I see, so SET controls are not really a factor in normal simulator usage?  I am not doing anything with offsets, though perhaps in the future...

Er, yes, they are useful for things like, for example, setting trim to centre (use SET with a parameter of zero), or setting specific throttle values for different thrust modes. FSUIPC uses THROTTLEn_SET controls in order to allow axes to have a reverse thrust zone, because the later and now standard AXIS_THROTTLEn_SET controls do support support reverse. Same for Prop Pitch. You can also use specific parameter values to set specific fixed radio frequencies or transponder codes, etc etc.

I see a lot less useful controls in the list than many of the SET controls.

And all the AXIS controls are SET controls -- pretty much everyone (except keyboard pilots) use those!

Ah, it clicked, I get it now.  Is there a way to find out the acceptable parameters for any given control?

Sometimes it's obvious, some need trying and seeing, and the Simconnect SID helps too.
