I've been a FSUIPC user for over a decade and consider myself very fluent in its operation. This evening I installed P3D v3, disabled all controllers within P3D and proceeded to setup all axis and calibrations. One of the features in P3D I was really looking forward to was the new avatar mode. Unfortunately, I cant get the guy to move around...at all. When I hit Ctrl shift E he pops out and onto the ground, but that's it. If I re-enable my controllers within P3d, I can then move around using my yoke, but its very buggy. Presumably due to the fact that I have both FSUIPC and P3d controllers active. Is there a workaround to this?

Sorry, the AVATAR is a new feature in P3Dv3 and I haven't had time to even try it.

I don't know why it isn't responding to normal joystick inputs. Have you tried assigning to the standard Axis controls, those FS controls nameed "Axis ...." in the drop downs?  Probably they simply haven't made it respond to the older FS controls such as those used by FSUIPC calibration.

If they've implemented it completely separately from normal aircraft elevator/aileron/rudder/throttle controls I suspect it would need a separate program to drive it outside of the P3D provisions.

Of course, the purpose of FSUIPC is to provide onward compatibility for existing facilities and applications, so there are currently no plans to expand it to cover completely new options.

Maybe, when P3Dv3 is sorted out so that it works well enough with control devices I will be able to find time to see if it is an easy addition, or more likely something which can be done via Lua plugins, but really it is a bit like asking for support for submarines and bombs and other non-FS type facilities which a military trainer such as P3D might implement. I'm afraid it isn't on my Agenda.

Perhaps you can use FSUIPC to log events (both event logging options in the FSUIPC logging tab), then use the Avatar with P3Dv3 controllers enabled, and show me the log -- just the part where only the Avatar was in use. Maybe it is simply a configuration issue, or different assignments needed.

Will do Pete. Thanks. All axis are set correctly and assigned in FSUIPC. No matter what I do, the yoke and rudders will not move the avatar. However... I AM able to move him using keyboard commands W,A,S,D.

How exactly are the axes assigned in FSUIPC? i.e what mode and control selections?

What events are triggered by W, A, S, D? I thought the A and S keys were assigned by default to view selection.

You should be able to determine the events used by enabling event logging in FSUIPC. You could also run P3D in Windowed mode (temporarily) and enable the FSUIPC Console Log so you can see the events logged in real time.

It would also be useful to know what events are used for the AVATAR when you have the joystick enabled in P3D.

I might find time to try the Avatar control this weekend. How is is selected and enabled?

I found how to enable and move the Avatar. But L-M is not using any normal assignable controls for this.It is scanning the joystick (when enabled) itself and using the axis inputs directly. There seem to be no facilities for any other way of controlling it, not even in SimConnect, so I've really got no way of adding support for it through FSUIPC.

It's early days for P3Dv3 though. Maybe this will change.
