Lost Joystick in FSX

My Joystick keeps disappearing from FSX. I thought it might be the joystick so I got another with the same issue.

I am running STEAM FSX with WIN 8.

I read somewhere that I can ignore the control settings in FSX and simply set up my joystick in FSUIPC.

Is this true? Is there a tutorial...

FSUIPC is unlikely to help if your joystick keeps disappearing! Sounds like you need to turn off USB power management in Windows'' Device Manager.
