Hi Peter and FSUIPC Community,

Brief background – I’ve been using a registered version of FSUIPC for a number of years, running FSX on my server and Project Magenta GAGC and FlightSim Commander on my client. I am 77 years old now and flight-simming has become my major retirement passion. I decided to instal P3D v3 in the hope of leaving behind some of the limitations of FSX. I upgraded both server and client to Windows 10 and configured file sharing and network recognition to allow free data transfer between the two. I installed a fresh licensed copy of FSX and a licensed copy of P3D v3 onto a new SSD . I then downloaded and installed FSUIPC 4.949 in both FSX and P3D and Wideclient.exe and WideClient.ini from WideFS 6.995 on my client.

The problem – although FSUIPC seems to have installed ok, appearing on the Addons tab when FSX is started and on the Plugins tab when P3D is started, it fails to make a connection with the client in either case. I have read and re-read the FSUIPC and WideFS manuals from end to end and have spent much of the last week scouring the forums and trying out any suggestions to no avail.

I have tried resetting and rebooting my router. I can successfully ping between ip addresses on server, client and router so my wireless network seems to be working ok.

I can even get a successful client/server wireless connection with XPlane on the server and GAGC and FSC on the client using XPUIPC.

Logs, ini files and ipconfig details are below. I would be deeply grateful for any advice.

The only useful logs for such things are the WideClient log, which you supplied, and the WideServer log, which you've omitted.

The error:

    172 Trying TCP/IP addr 192.168.1.225, port 8002 ...

21188 Error on client pre-Connection Select() [Error=10060] Connection timed out

is a little strange. If it was "connection refused" I'd say it was down to firewalls, one ed or the other. But maybe Win10 is different in this respect. The only other thing I can think of is that the Port it is using (8002) is already being used by something else.  You can try a different one. You would have to change it in WideClient.INI and in the [WideServer] section of FSUIPC4.INI.

One other thing. I notice one of the files mentions a Wireless LAN adapter. Are you attempting to connect wirelessly? Judging by past reports this is known to be problematic with WideFS. Can you test with a wired connection at all?

BTW your FSUIPC is now out of date. The earliest supported version is currently 4.949p.

Hi Pete,

Many thanks for your brilliant response which has pointed to the culprit. I didn't post a WideServer log because my attempts to connect did not create a WideServer log. Also, as you can see from my FSUIPC.ini above the only line appearing in the WideServer section is "WideFSenabled=yes" i.e no port is specified. This reminded me that when I reinstalled FSUIPC after all my hardware and software updates, I was able to register FSUIPC successfully using the key purchased several years ago but, for some reason, the automated registration process rejected my 12 character key for my purchased version of WideFS. I wrongly thought that the unregistered version would still provide basic functions.

So today I purchased another copy of WideFS, registered it and, hey presto, all is working beautifully. I can't thank you enough Pete. What would we do without you?

Best regards,

Ken
