A few days ago I updated to the latest version of FSUIPC (4.955c), soon after I realised that the weather radar in my PMDG 737 was not functioning.

I had bought Active Sky Next for P3D about a week ago and the weather radar had been working fine up to this point.

I tried uninstalling and rolling back to an older version with no success.

I then uninstalled FSUIPC completely and the weather radar was back to normal, the problem is that I use FSUIPC heavily and need it present on my sim.

I reverted back to one version yesterday and the first attempt worked, while the second and third failed, on examining the log the very first time the line 'ASN WEATHER RADAR ACTIVE' was present, on other tries it was not.

Here is my log below,

It's nothing to do with versions of FSUIPC.  It seems ASN cannot support more than one client for its radar services. Please ask about that on ASN support forum.

Meanwhile you'd need to remove your ASN wx radar lines from the FSUIPC4.INI file.

What do you mean by 'ASN cannot support more than one client for its radar services'? I am only running one client.

Here is my FSUIPC.ini, there are no ASN wx radar lines.

I'm sorry I just can't wrap my head around what is wrong...

If both the PMDG aircraft and FSUIPC are registering for WX radar data, that makes TWO clients for ASN's WX Radar data!

I see you have no WxRadar entries in FSUIPC's settings, so it shouldn't be asking for any such data, so I'm not sure what is happening.  There is one odd thing -- from the FSUIPC log file you posted earlier I see that the ASN "as_btstrp.dll" module is loading into P3D before FSUIPC.  I've known that ordering to do odd things and ASN's installer takes steps to move it to the end. Could you check in the DLL.XML file (the one in the Users\<username>\Appdata\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3 folder) and make sure FSUIPC4 is listed before as connect (the as_btstrp.dll)? If not try swapping those entries around.

Unfortunately you've caught me at the start of a week away, visiting my son and his wife in Spain, so I'm not in a position to investigate at my end at present. I'm trying to keep up with questions on my iPad but I have no access to FS etc. until I get back -- Monday week.

BTW, in the post with the log you only showed the entries at the start. It's an incomplete log. Can you check to see whether there are any lines later mentioning Wx radar?

Thank you so much for your time and sorry if I'm being an absolute nuisance, but this has been extremely frustrating, you never know how much you actually like something until you lose it.

The DLL.XML seems in order, yet another dead end.

I have contacted both the ASN forums and PMDG forums so maybe some luck will arise there.

Thanks again for your time and enjoy your holiday!

the line 'ASN WEATHER RADAR ACTIVE' was present

I was puzzled about what made me advise you to remove the WxRadar lines in FSUIPC's settings, so I reviewed the first post again, and was reminded of the above. The log fragment you showed did NOT include this line -- did it not exist, or did you just not post enough of the file?

If it does log such a line it (should) definitely mean the WxRadar facilities are activated in FSUIPC, and that should only happen with parameter entries in the INI file. So I am really puzzled now!

It might help to see a rather more complete log for a session in which you get  this problem, please? (Ideally, complete from AFTER you close P3D down, completely)

That line was present when I had loaded up P3D with a fresh installation of FSUIPC, and with that line present in the log the weather radar worked and I thought I had fixed the problem.

Just to be sure I rebooted my computer and tried loading up P3D again, while monitoring the log. This second time the log was almost identical but it was missing the line 'ASN WxRadar Active' and the radar would not function.

This is what puzzles me the most.

Yes. In that case it seems possible that ASN does support 2 clients after all (maybe that was fixed in an update), but when it doesn't work, it doesn't work for both programs. The fact that this is intermittent is worrying and is rather pointing to some timing glitch with the ASN facility.

I can't investigate this myself till I get home in 8 days, but it might be worth asking these questions on the ASN support forum. By all means point to this thread when you do.

Thank you very much Pete for your time, I am very much active on the ASN support forum also trying to untangle this mess.

Sorry for bothering you while you should be relaxing and enjoying the glories weather in Spain....

Thanks again for your time and I'll get back to you when your back,

Thanks again,

Helle Pete,

I am delighted to inform you that this issue has been resolved.

A complete uninstall and reinstall of P3D followed by FSUIPC and then ASN resolved the problem

I just want to thank you for your time and help with the matter.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend,

Thanks again,

Hmm. Thanks for letting me know. I have to assume that the cause really was the order of loading of FSUIPC4 relative to the AS Connect module, as_btstrp.dll, although I think that was one of the things we thought we'd checked.

It was quite a mess actually,  when Prepar3D was new, a lot of scenery that I had previously had on FSX didn't have dedicated P3D installers, so I placed my fsx.exe into my P3D root folder, to try and overcome this..... (This is before I knew that there was a migration tool ://)

So in turn some things didn't install properly in the long run.

One of the ASN logs showed that my registry is pointing FSX to your P3D directory.

So the solution, a fresh clean install of P3D, followed by FSUIPC and ASN and then all the addons which all have dedicated P3D installers now so there are no need for workarounds.

Thanks again,

Alex

With scenery, I just install everything only in FSX-SE (which I use mostly in any case), and edit the SCENERY.CFG file so that all of the add-on entries have full paths, not sim-relative paths, and then use the exact same SCENERY.CFG file in both FSX-SE and P3D. Some sceneries (but very few) also install some stuff into places like Effects too, but not many, but I just make sure I have all the same Effects in both sims too.

Thanks for the tip Pete, will definitely try this since i still have FSX installed. I still have a lot to reinstall....

Thanks for your help,
