Hello,

I am having some issues with my Warthog in P3D version 3.4 and registered version of FSUIPC 4.959 with VRS Superbug.

Within P3D I have unticked enable controllers and cleared all Joystick assignments with the view of using FSUIPC for controller setup and calibration.

From within FSUIPC I found I was able to complete setup and calibration though, this was not as straightforward as I thought it would be. To explain, I thought I should be using Send direct to FSUIPC for calibration option but found this gave no controller response in P3D.

What did work was using Send to FS as normal axis and calibrating with No Reverse Zone however within P3D when running up the engines they only get as high as 95% RPM.

I enquired about this at VRS forum and was advised to calibrate with Reverse Thrust however, doing this results in Throttle 2 returning all zeros for Reverse Idle and Max.

Aside from the Warthog I have older gameport Simped rudder pedals connecting through USB on Realsimulators RUSBA plug - not sure if this would make any difference?

So, I am curious as to why I can't

         Calibrate using Send direct to FSUIPC

         Why does calibration return all zeros when calibrating with Reverse Thrust

Assigning is only part of it. you have to calibrate then as well.

You've evidently not calibrated properly then, if at all.

Again, that sounds like bad or no calibration.

Looking at your INI, for default calibrations you only have

Throttle2=0,0,512,16383/48

which is no reverse zone and standard range 0-16383., with a axis reversed. You have no other calibrated axis at all for anything other than you FA18 profile where you have

Throttle1=-16383,-16383,-16383,-16383/32

A throttle with a range -16383 to -16383 (ie no range at all), no reverse

Throttle2=0,0,0,0/32

A throttle with a range 0 to 0, again no range at all. Also no reverse.

Plus these with default calibrations:

Rudder=-16380,-512,512,16380
LeftBrake=0,16383
RightBrake=0,16383

I suggest you find the FSUIPC User Guide, in your FSUIPC Dcoumentas folder, and follow the numbered steps for calibration given in the Calibration Chapter!

Pete

Thanks for your response Pete.

I have as you suggested went through your FSUIPC User Guide again, specifically concentrating on page 47 THE EASY STEP-by-STEP WAY TO CALIBRATE YOUR CONTROLS

Prior to starting P3D I have renamed FSUIPC4.INI to org_FSUIPC4.INI with the intention of assigning the Y axis of the stick and then calibrating same Y axis all in FSUIPC.

Axis Assigment

A. I can confirm that after opening P3D and checking Options > Slew Mode is unchecked and that under Options > Settings > Controls that Normal is shown in the Flight Mode dropbox - even though I have unchecked Enable Controller(s) and removed any Joystick axis associations.

B. Within P3D I select Add Ons > FSUIPC > Axis Assignment. I then check the box Profile Specific and name it VRS FA18. After selecting RESCAN I then move the Y axis of the stick forward and note that Joy# = 0 and Axis# = Y Delta = 256 IN = 16383 and OUT = 16376 from here I then select Send Direct to FSUIPC Calibration and put a tick in the first box below I then select Elevator from the dropbox and I then click OK to close the FSUIPC dialogue.

Page 47 THE EASY STEP-by-STEP WAY TO CALIBRATE YOUR CONTROLS

Step 1. I can confirm that after opening P3D and checking Options > Slew Mode is unchecked and that under Options > Settings > Controls that Normal is shown in the Flight Mode dropbox - even though I have unchecked Enable Controller(s).

Step 2. Within P3D I select Add Ons > FSUIPC > Axis Assignment. I can confirm when moving the Y axis fully forward Delta = 256 IN = 16383 OUT = 16280 on pulling the Y axis fully back Delta = 256 IN = -16384 OUT = -16384

Step 3. Switching to the Joystick Calibration tab I click Set under Elevator (direct!) on page 1 of 11 which returns IN = 0 OUT = 0 Min Set = -16380 Centre Set = -512 over 512 MAX Set = 16380

Step 4. I can confirm when pushing the Y axis fully forward IN = 16327 OUT = 16329 fully back IN = -16286 OUT = -16287

Step 5. I now pull the Y axis fully back IN = -16286 OUT = -16287 holding the Y axis fully back I then click MIN Set (Leftmost) which now = -16286

Step 6 I now let the Y axis return to its natural centre IN = -204 OUT = 0 I then click Centre Set which now = -204 over 512

Step 7. I now push the Y axis fully forward IN = 16383 OUT = 16384 holding the Y axis fully forward I then click MAX Set (Rightmost) which now = 16383

Step 8. I click on Slope and select a response curve of 3 then click OK

Step 9. I leave Filter unchecked

Step 10. I leave Rev unchecked

At this point I now close FSUIPC by clicking OK and return to P3D I then go to an outside locked view and unpause I then push the Y axis both forwards and backwards with a result of nothing, absolutely no movement whatsoever of the elevator.

I would very much appreciate if you could confirm the steps I have taken as noted above are correct with regards to axis assignment and calibration highlighting wherever I may have interpreted your User Guide incorrectly and or why there is no response within P3D?

Below is a copy of the resulting FSUIPC4.ini file created from these settings.

You'll need TWO centre positions, not one. There should be a centre regiod which corresponds to the range on the stick to which it will always return to when hands are off. It may be small, but not of zero size for sure. You can check by turning it repeatedly to the extremes and releasing it.

49 minutes ago, Pogo said:

Step 8. I click on Slope and select a response curve of 3 then click OK

For now I'd certainly leave slopes alone. Adjust later, to taste, once everything is working okay.

52 minutes ago, Pogo said:

Step 3. Switching to the Joystick Calibration tab I click Set under Elevator (direct!) on page 1 of 11 which returns IN = 0 OUT = 0 Min Set = -16380 Centre Set = -512 over 512 MAX Set = 16380

You have not selected the Profile for Joystick Calibration.

You have set the default setting for Elevator okay:

53 minutes ago, Pogo said:

Elevator=-16286,-204,512,16383
SlopeElevator=3

but there is no calibration section for your Profile. You can rectify this by editing this line in the INI:

[JoystickCalibration]

to

[JoystickCalibration.VRS FA18]

but that is not the correct way to do it.

Incidentally, why are you starting off setting a profile? Have you many others in mind? Best to set all your default controls first, then, when you create a profile, you can use the base or generic settings as a starting point.

I think you may be diving into the more complex aspects of FSUIPC before doing the simple things.

Okay trying to keep it as simple as possible this time ie no Profile Specific setting.

Starting with a new FSUIPC.ini

I have again assigned the Y axis to Elevator and selected Send Direct to FSUIPC Calibration

I have repeated my calibration steps as in my last post however, I have applied two centre positions as per your advice

Calibration is now MIN Set = -16384 CENTRE Set = -886 over 958 MAX Set = 16383

This still results in NO movement of the Elevator in P3D

Unfortunately, for me, there does not appear to be any simple things....

Calibration is now MIN Set = -16384 CENTRE Set = -886 over 958 MAX Set = 16383

This still results in NO movement of the Elevator in P3D

Well, the calibration is saved:

Are you checking the elevator in flight, or only visually from outside the aircraft? It may be operating without the visuals.

The assignment itself is a little odd. You appear to have set a higher than normal Delta:

1=0Y,656,D,2,0,0,0    -{ DIRECT: Elevator }-

The 656 will make it ignore changes of less than that. However, it won't ignore the whole range of course. The default is 256.

Have you tested with a default aircraft at all. I'm not sure whether the one you are using will accept controls sent "direct". I knwo some Aerosoft and PMDG aircraft do their own thing with some controls -- usually throttle though.

If it works with a default aircraft then you'll probably need to change to using FS controls for the add-on one -- Axis elevator set, for example. Then see if it works without calibration before calbrating.

Thanks Pete,

It is not an animation issue, as there is no control in flight.

I have wiped my drive and installed Win 10 and still getting the same issue.

I note that in FSUIPC the rudder is reported as axis Z and the throttle is reported as axis R however, in Windows calibration rudders are R and Throttle is Z so, for now I am going to look into this and see if I can find out how to get them to report as the same.

FWIW using send to FS in FSUIPC the controls work just not sure I'm getting the full range from the throttles.....

FSUIPC merely shows what it sees coming from DirectInput. Maybe there's some jitter on one or the other and the input that gives is overriding the one you want to set? Try clearing the selection (there's a button top left somewhere) and see which axis pops up.

If you can't then also use FSUIPC's calibration (because the aircraft doesn't like the way the controls then arrive, as with PMDG aircraft), then you'd need to try to properly calibrate in Windows.
