didierdh Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Hi Pete, I recently have purchased the last version of FSUIPC and WIDEFS. FSUIPC is perfectly running on both Fs2002 and Fs9. I have a question related to WIDEFS : Where do the utility programs have to be installed, on the PC running FS9 or on the other PCs ? I ask this question because when running Fs9 on WIDE Server and WIDE Client on the other PC, I got a good connexion between the Server and the Client, but I am unable to run my utility programs, I got an error msg. Could you please help me in fixing this problem ? Kind regards and please continue to serve the simmers community as you are doing. Didier DUBREUILH
Pete Dowson Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Where do the utility programs have to be installed, on the PC running FS9 or on the other PCs ? Where you install them and where you run them is actually not necessarily the same thing. That's one of the benefits of networks. However, in general it is far more efficient to install them on the PC on which you wish to run them. Whether that's on the FS PC or on a WideClient PC is your choice. Some programs can only be run on the PC on which they are installed in any case. I ask this question because when running Fs9 on WIDE Server and WIDE Client on the other PC, I got a good connexion between the Server and the Client, but I am unable to run my utility programs, I got an error msg. You are unable to run what programs where? And what is the error message? All WideClient is doing is "pretending" to be FS + FSUIPC so that an FSUIPC-aware utility program will recognise it. Some FS utilities actually also need access to FS itself, for things like airport data and so on. With Trafficboard, for instance, you'd have to run Trafficboard on the FS PC first, make it generate all its data files, then copy the database files to the Client PC. However, there aren't very many utilities like that. I think AFCAD may need to be run on the FS PC, although it is certainly WideFS-compatible, mainly because it will be looking for the airport files probably on the same PC. Without knowing what you are trying to do nor what the error says that's about as much help as I can be I'm afraid. Regards, Pete
didierdh Posted October 31, 2003 Author Report Posted October 31, 2003 Hi Pete, First of all, thanks for your immediate reply. Pete Dowson Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 - PC Server : - Drive C : Fs2002, ActiveSky wxRE, Squawkbox, RWTS, ServInfo, Roger Wilco, and finally WideFs (Server) - Drive D: Fs9 - PC Client : - Drive C : Wide Client With only WideClient on the client PC, you've got nothing to run on WideFS. You've got everything on the Server! There's no point in running WideFS in that case. You could install all the following programs on the Client instead, and save the Server taking a lot of processor and memory from FS: ActiveSky wxRE, Squawkbox, ServInfo, Roger Wilco and maybe also RWTS, but I don't know what that is. If you moved all this it would be a good idea to have your Internet connection for ActiveSky, SB and RW on the client too, not via the Server which will put more load on the Network needlessly. - What I want to do : - PC Server : Run Fs9 or Fs2002 and fly on the IVAO network - PC Client : Display Squawkbox and Servinfo if possible Yes, well obviously then you need to install SB and Servinfo on the Client. You install programs on the machines on which you want them to run. This is normal practice with computers. :D Here below the error msg I am getting when running Wide Client :Wide Client couldn'nt run :"C:\program Files\Simu\Avions\Servinfo.Servinfo.exe" [Error=2] This is presumably because you told WideClient to load and run Servinfo on the Client from the client's C: disk, and you forgot to install it there? There's no way WideClient can run a program which isn't available. Windows error 2 is "file not found". Regards, Pete
