Good evening, Pete! Hope everything is fine.
After some months away from simming, I decided to start from scratch; formatted my computer, reinstalled the simulation and add-ons, and then asked to be reinstated into the VA I use to fly.

All went well, up until I was prompted to install the VA's ACARS utility, which uses a copy of the latest FSUIPC v4.977.

Before installing their utility, I've made some short test flights around beforehand , to check add-on aircraft, weather and traffic... all went cool.

But when I was prompted to install FSUIPC, my system froze everytime I tried to fly a flight; usually before even starting, and at one point FSX-SE froze just at the preflight checklist.

Here's my latest install log...

Well, with FSUIPC unregistered it's doing very little. But one thing it is doing is reading the weather (through SimConnect) so it can populate the weather data offsets for use by client programs.

Your problem sounds like at least one of the Weather files is corrupted. Unfortunately these contain binary data which is unchecked and bad data can corrupt other things in the sim when SimConnect is asked to read it.

This usually causes a crash, not a freeze. So, are you sure FS is still running?

A quick way of checking whether this is the problem is to add "NoWeatherAtAll=Yes" to the [General] section of the FSUIPC4.INI file. This is okay if you have no addons which wish to read the weather. But a better fix is to simply delete all of the .WX files from your FS Documents folder (where your flights are stored), and the file "wxstationlist.bin" in your <user>\AppData\Roaming folder for FSX.

Hello Pete and John, hope things are all right.

Yeah, it was (and still is) crashing the sim as early as it starts; usually I can't even choose aircraft before it shuts itself back into the desktop.

I did insert "NoWeatherAtAll=Yes" into the [General] section, as well as cleared the "wxstationlist.bin" from the specified folder... but almost to no avail. FSX-SE decided to stop opening altogether.

For reference, I use ActiveSky Next as a weather engine, and for that latest flight things went smooth just as I was descending through 9k feet to land; other reference is that if I uninstall FSUIPC, FSX usually works fine with any addons, but it is needed to communicate with my VA's ACARS system (deltava.org).

Could you please lend me a hand?

Thanks in advance, Pedro.

Without registration, FSUIPC is merely receiving stuff from SimConnect and writing stuff back at the request of application programs using it.

Therefore the problem must either be a corrupted FSX, affecting the SimConnect interface, or, possibly more likely, a misbehaving application.

You can check for the latter by trying with no FSUIPC applications running at all. for the former, do a re-install of FSX.

BTW If FSX is crashing, why are you not showing us the Windows crash report (from the Event Viewer)?

Pete
