Stoko1 Posted November 16, 2023 Report Posted November 16, 2023 I've just purchased and downloaded FSUIPC7 from SIMMARKET. I've extracted the files into directory 'Install_FSUIPC7' but when double clicking on 'Install_FSUIPC7.exe' the blue circle appears for approx 1 second and then disappears then nothing happens. I've also tried running it as Administrator but get the same result. Any ideas ?
John Dowson Posted November 16, 2023 Report Posted November 16, 2023 No need to run as admin, but when you run it windows should display a User Account Control dialog box asking for permissions for the installer to make changes to your device. If you don't see this. check your task bar to see if this window is iconised. Also, if you are running any anti-virus software, check that is not blocking the installer and if so disable (while installing) or add an exception so that the installer can run. John
Stoko1 Posted November 16, 2023 Author Report Posted November 16, 2023 Hi John, I've disabled anti virus in Microsoft Defender and also added an exception. The small blue circle appears for about a second after double clicking the exe so does not get as far as the UAC dialog box and nothing appears in task bar. I've been running FSUIPC5 for Prepar3dv4 with no problem. I've just installed MSFS2020 hence the FSUIPC7 purchase. I've redownloaded the zip file from SIMMARKET and also from your own site but it makes no difference.
John Dowson Posted November 16, 2023 Report Posted November 16, 2023 Can you check the Windows Event Viewer (under Windows Logs -> Application) to see if there any events related to the installer, and if so show me those. Are you sure that you have extracted the files from the zip archive, and are not trying to run the installer from directly within the zip file? You can also try updating your VC++ redistributables (instructions are in the Installation and Registration guide, under Invalid Key Problems section), although I doubt this will help. If you aren't even seeing the UAC approval dialog box, the installation process has not yet even started. The only thing that can prevent this would usually be anti-virus software. Are you sure that you are only using MS Defender? There should be no issues with this - most, if not all, users will have this running, including me, and this should not give any issues. What version of Windows are you running under?
Stoko1 Posted November 16, 2023 Author Report Posted November 16, 2023 Hi John, I'm running Windows 11 Edition Windows 11 Home Version 23H2 Installed on 20/09/2023 OS build 22631.2715 Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22677.1000.0 I can see nothing in Event Viewer referring to the install and I have extracted files to a different folder and am running exe from there also only using MS Defender. It's all very confusing.
John Dowson Posted November 16, 2023 Report Posted November 16, 2023 Yes, very confusing...I do not understand how it can not run and also not report any error or exception anywhere. Without any information, it is very difficult for me to advise what to try next. I have not updated to 23H2 yet. I can't see how this can cause issues, and would have expected many more support issues if this was the case. but I will update to this version over the weekend. Do you not see anything at all in the task bar when you attempt to run the installer? Do you see anything running in the Task Manager? Have you tried running the installer after a clean reboot? Maybe also try moving the installer to a different folder. What is the size of the installer, in bytes, from the properties page? Should be 41,426,470 bytes, You can also try running the compatibility troubleshooter from the Compatibility tab of the Properties page, and maybe also running the installer in compatibility mode (for windows 8 I guess). Can you try downloading and running the installer for FSUIPC6 to see if you get the same issue (the installer is the same as for FSUIPC7). This will uninstall FSUIPC5, but you can uninstall FSUIPC6 after it is installed and then re-install FSUIPC5 and nothing should be affected. If all else fails, you could install manually - I can provide instructions to do this if/when necessary.
Stoko1 Posted November 16, 2023 Author Report Posted November 16, 2023 Hi John, I do not see anything in the task bar or Task Manager and I've rebooted and extracted to a different folder (Desktop). The file size is correct and I've tried running in Windows 8 compatibilty mode and also used the troubleshooter to no effect. The installer for FSUIPC6 also does not run, the blue circle appears when trying to run and disappears within a second the same as FSUIPC7. I then tried the 'Install FSUIPC5.exe' and that works OK !!. I've recently (within last month) installed Prepar3dv4 plus all addons (including FSUIPC5) onto my new PC with no problems with any of the install exe files also yesterday installed MS2020 40th Anniversary Premium Deluxe edition with no problem so it is a real puzzle.
John Dowson Posted November 17, 2023 Report Posted November 17, 2023 I have updated to 23H2 now and the installer is working as expected here (although I am now having some strange issues with my displays...). 13 hours ago, Stoko1 said: The installer for FSUIPC6 also does not run, the blue circle appears when trying to run and disappears within a second the same as FSUIPC7. I then tried the 'Install FSUIPC5.exe' and that works OK !!. Ok, so it is the installer framework that is causing this - FSUIPC6 and FSUIPC7 use the same framework, but not FSUIPC5. 13 hours ago, Stoko1 said: onto my new PC with no problems If this is a new PC, you will need to install the latest combined (2015, 2017, 2019 & 2022) VC++ redistributables, available from https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170#visual-studio-2015-2017-2019-and-2022. Install both x64 and x86 versions. Can you please install these and try again.
Stoko1 Posted November 17, 2023 Author Report Posted November 17, 2023 Hi John, Both installed but unfortunately makes no difference.
John Dowson Posted November 17, 2023 Report Posted November 17, 2023 Can you make sure that you are not running the installer from a windows protected folder. Also please try running the installer from a command prompt window - are any errors reported when doing this? Can you also try running FSUIPC7 to see if it can run correctly. Create a folder (e.g. C:\FSUIPC7) and download the latest FSUIPC7.exe from Then just try running it to see if it runs. If so, exit and manually create a FSUIPC7.key file in the same folder - details on the format of this file can be found in the Installing and Registering FSUIPC7.pdf document (which is included in the installer zip file). Then run FSUIPC7 again and see if you have access to the registered facilities (e.g. assignments). If that works ok, I can provide you with the additional files you need (WASM and Documentation).
Stoko1 Posted November 17, 2023 Author Report Posted November 17, 2023 Hi John, I tried this in command prompt and had the following result C:\Users\Tshop\Downloads\Install_FSUIPC7\Install_FSUIPC7>start Install_FSUIPC7.exe Access is denied. I then created C:\FSUIPC7 and tried running the exe file for 7.3.26 from in it via File Explorer and no luck so I then ran it from command prompt C:\FSUIPC7>start Install_FSUIPC7.exe It then opened this page FSUIPC7: Simulator not detected File MSFS Options Log Welcome to FSUIPC7,version 7.3.26e No Input Events currently loaded (only available when an aircraft is loaded and ready-to-fly) I've created the key file in C:\FSUIPC7 and ran the exe again from command prompt as double clicking the exe file does not work, I get a quick flash of an opening screen FSUIPC7 by Pete and John Dowson 2020 and then nothing, task manager does not show it running, if I then run it from command prompt again I get a message that it is already running and it then appears in task manager with the above screen display but I don't see any of the registered facilities

Ok, then this is the problem, i.e. there are issues with your UAC configuration. Can you take a look at the security tab of the installer (in the properties window). This is what mine looks like: 19 minutes ago, Stoko1 said: I get a quick flash of an opening screen FSUIPC7 by Pete and John Dowson 2020 and then nothing, task manager does not show it running, if I then run it from command prompt again I get a message that it is already running and it then appears in task manager with the above screen display but I don't see any of the registered facilities It is probably already running. When you run FSUIPC7, a splash screen is displayed, and then it is iconised to your system tray. You can open it from there, or use the (default) hot-key combination of Alt+F to open/close the FSUIPC7 main window.
John Dowson Posted November 17, 2023 Report Posted November 17, 2023 Maybe UAC has been disabled on your PC? See the following article on how to enable: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/112488-enable-disable-user-account-control-uac-windows.html

Stoko1 Posted November 17, 2023 Author Report Posted November 17, 2023 Apologies John can you redact them ?

What do you see when you run it the first time? What happens when you double-click the FSUIPC7.exe in Windows Explorer? Have you checked that FSUIPC7 is not sitting in your system tray (NOT the task bar)? You should not see the FSUIPC7 main window until you open it from the task bar (or use Alt+F). 1 hour ago, Stoko1 said: here is the entry in the key file in C:\FSUIPC7 <removed> Then you haven't created the FSUIPC7.key file in the correct format or with the correct file name, Please try again - and don't forget the first line MUST be '[User]'. 1 hour ago, Stoko1 said: Here is the logfile it states user not registered and the WASM module not detected which you mentioned earlier might need to be entered manually The WASM also needs to be installed. No point in doing this until you can actually run FSUIPC7 correctly, and also it would be better to get the installer working rather than installing manually. Do you see the UAC permissions box when installing other utilities (that need admin rights to install)? Does your windows account have admin privileges? If you go to your Account info, does it say you are an Administrator? If not, you cannot elevate to admin privileges.
Stoko1 Posted November 18, 2023 Author Report Posted November 18, 2023 Hi John, My account is an Administrator, I checked registry editor for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System and there was only 2 sub branches Audit and UIPI showing. secpol.msc is not available in Windows 11 Home so I used option 2 in your link to run Enable_UAC.reg and now the registry shows EnableLUA=1. I do see UAC permissions box for other programs. Double clicking FSUIPC7.exe still does not work but I can run it from command prompt and it appears in the task tray but not in task manager until I click on 'Show' in the task tray it then opens and appears in task manager. I am at a total loss as to why I still can't run the install exe file by double clicking it.

Stoko1 Posted November 19, 2023 Author Report Posted November 19, 2023 Hi John, No the exe installer still does not work by double clicking exe file, which I really do not understand. I have copied the format of the key file I have in FSUIPC5 into FSUIPC7 and now when I run it from command prompt (only once) and open it from the task tray I now see the following screen FSUIPC7: Simulator not detected (expected as I have not started it) File MSFS Assignments Options Log Welcome to FSUIPC7, version 7.3.26e Other options are now available under the 5 headers above, so progress has been made, I've not tried your above method yet to auto connect to MSFS because under Options the Auto connect to FS is ticked. The command prompt method does not take me through the full installation process so still not sure if the key file has registered me and not sure what else is missing but under Assignments I now see Axes..., Buttons & Switches... and Key Presses... Many thanks John for your continuing efforts to help me. Tim S

Auto-connect and auto-start are two completely different things. You should have auto-connect set, but I would like you to try the auto-start, to see if MSFS can start FSUIPC when it is started. This will prevent you from having to manually start it from the command line. 16 hours ago, Stoko1 said: The command prompt method does not take me through the full installation process I thought that you can still not tun the installer at all, even via the command prompt, and that you can only start FSUIPC via the command prompt. 16 hours ago, Stoko1 said: so still not sure if the key file has registered me and not sure what else is missing but under Assignments I now see Axes..., Buttons & Switches... and Key Presses... As you see the Assignments menu, your key file is correct and you are running a registered version. All registered facilities will be available. I still think you will be better off trying to determine why the installer cannot run, and why you cannot start FSUIPC7 via windows Explorer. But I cannot help you any further with this. If you can confirm that the auto-start works, you can install the WASM, documentation, and other components manually. This should give you a full working FSUIPC installation which you can use, while you try and figure out the issue preventing the installer running.
Stoko1 Posted November 20, 2023 Author Report Posted November 20, 2023 Hi John, I have now set up the EXE.xml file to auto start with MSFS and that is successful. I have also now set up the axis assignments and the buttons and switches ok. All now appears to be working ok but as to why the installer does not work remains a complete mystery. Thanks again for all your help and support. Tim S
John Dowson Posted November 20, 2023 Report Posted November 20, 2023 Ok, at least you have it now working. Attached in this WASM module - save this to your MSFS Community folder and extract the files (then delete the zip), and you will have access to the facilities provided by the WASM (access to lvars, hvars and calculator code). I have also attached the events.txt file - save this to your FSUIPC7 installation folder and this will give toy access to the MobiFlight presets. Cheers, John fsuipc-lvar-module.zip events.txt
John Dowson Posted November 20, 2023 Report Posted November 20, 2023 Oh - and here is the documentation: FSUIPC7-Docs.zip Unzip that somewhere, usually it would go under your Windows Documents folder. I have removed the User Guide from that zip file as it made the file to large to attach - I will send that separately....
John Dowson Posted November 20, 2023 Report Posted November 20, 2023 User guide - save to the folder with the other docs: FSUIPC7 User Guide.pdf
