FSX Steam edition crashes

I run a VA and one of my pilots is having an issue with his FSX Steam edition crashing to disk when FSUIPC is installed.  He is using the free edition, ver 4.977, and he says he downloaded it from the Pete Dowson site.  When he uninstalls it his crashes go away, when he re-installs it they come back.  There aren't any error messages that come up, at least for him to see, just a crash to desktop.  Any ideas what could be causing this?  Is there a log file that I could supply that could help figure it out?  I hate to lose a pilot.  Thanks in advance!

Nearly all CTDs in FSX with FSUIPC4 are due to a corrupt weather file. Please see
