What am i doing wrong. Regards martin.
John Dowson Posted Thursday at 02:37 PM Report Posted Thursday at 02:37 PM I have no idea - please check the WideFS documentation on connection issue trouble shooting. If you still have issues after reading and trying the suggestions there, I would need to see your WideClient.ini and WideClient.log files, your WideServer.log and FSUIPC7.log files, and your FSUIPC7.ini file. you should attach these files. Most WideClient connection issues are due to firewall issues or using different workgroups, so at least check the workgroup and disable all firewalls (client, servewr and router) to test. Also try specifying the server name and protocol in your WideClient.ini - see the documentation. John
marten Posted Thursday at 11:22 PM Author Report Posted Thursday at 11:22 PM I turned the firewall off checked the workgroups but i cannot find the FSUIPC7.log file the FSUIPC7.ini file and the WideServer.log file the WideClient.log and the WideClient.ini files are in the attachment. Martin. WideClient.ini WideClient.log
John Dowson Posted Friday at 12:10 PM Report Posted Friday at 12:10 PM 12 hours ago, marten said: i cannot find the FSUIPC7.log file the FSUIPC7.ini file and the WideServer.log file They will be in your FSUIPC7 installation folder, on your client PC. They must be there - check also that you have not set Explorer to hide the extensions of known file types. 12 hours ago, marten said: the WideServer.log file the WideClient.log and the WideClient.ini files are in the attachment. Your ini file has a mistake: Quote rverIPAddr=192.168.0.39 Protocol=TCP That should be ServerIPAddr. Also usually better to use ServerName unless you have allocated static IP addresses. As it says in the WideClient.log: Quote 359 Trying to locate server: IP protocol needs ServerName or IP address! John John
marten Posted Friday at 02:47 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 02:47 PM My ip adress on my pc is the same as on my laptop see the attachment maybe this can help
John Dowson Posted Friday at 02:57 PM Report Posted Friday at 02:57 PM Just now, marten said: My ip adress on my pc is the same as on my laptop This is not possible....or shouldn't be! Every device on a network needs its own unique IP address - if the IP addresses are not unique, how can anything connect?!!! And as I said, there was an error in your ini - did you correct this? Did you try with ServerName instead of ServerIPAddr?
John Dowson Posted Friday at 04:49 PM Report Posted Friday at 04:49 PM Just to be clear, the public/external IP addresses will/should be the same, but the private/internal ones (starting 192.) must be different. If they are the same, you need to correct this - try google, e.g. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/2752121/two-computers-on-network-with-same-ip-address John
marten Posted Friday at 05:31 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 05:31 PM I find out that the ip adress in the wide client ini had the same as on my pc so i changed it it was 192.168.0.39 and now 192.168.0.38 also i followed the recomodation in the link you give me also i tried the server name instead of ip adress but still no connection WideServer.log
John Dowson Posted Friday at 05:36 PM Report Posted Friday at 05:36 PM (edited) I need to see all your files: WideClient.log, WideClient.ini, FSUIPC7.log, WideServer.log. I need to see all these files from the same session if you have connection issues. Did you try when using ServerName instead of ServerIPAddr as I keep asking? i.e. ServerName=YB-17936 Protocol=TCP ? Sorry, you said you tried this - but please show me the files. Are you now sure your PC and laptop have unique IP addresses? What are they? Edited Friday at 05:37 PM by John Dowson Further info added
John Dowson Posted Friday at 05:43 PM Report Posted Friday at 05:43 PM ...and if the IPS are unique and you have specified them correctly, the ONLY reasons that it fails to connect would be either the Workgroup name or firewalls blocking the connection. Please double check that your laptop is in the same workgroup as the PC, and temporarily disable all firewalls (laptop, PC, router). On 10/22/2025 at 4:43 PM, marten said: only changed the ip adress number to the same as my new computer. If IP addresses change, you would almost certainly need to update your firewall rules to allow the connection. This is why you should disable all firewalls and see if you can connect, then once you have a connection start each one at a time to see which one is blocking the connection.
marten Posted Friday at 11:09 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 11:09 PM I removed the widefs files from my laptop and dowloaded new ones installed en everything works fine. Thanks for your help. Martin.

Ok, but strange - I do not understand why that would fix your connection issue as it will be the exact same version as you were using.... John
