  1. Pete, the Citation X v2.0 uses FSUIPC to intercept the hardware throttle input(s), pass them through the FADEC system, then forwards the massaged values onto the sim.

Ed Wilson chose to use a user's registered FSUIPC since the same gauge module had to be compatible with both FS9 and FSX.

The CX is still "flyable" without a registered version of FSUIPC of course, albeit without the finesse of FADEC support.

  2. That's not entirely correct, Bill. A filled in square like that shown states that different files have different settings. Therefore, if the square is filled in solid, at least one file in the selection group has the read-only attribute applied.

A check mark, as you describe, states that all files and folders are set to read only. Only an empty box, as per the "hidden" box in the screenshot, states that no files or subfolders in the selection you are showing the properties of are not set to read only.

    Ian P.

Ian, that's not quite correct either. For example, I can check the Properties for a folder that contains no files whatsoever, yet the folder's Properties will still display the blue-highlighted "Read Only" box!

If I examine a folder which contains two files, one of which I've marked as "Read Only," the folder's Properties still displays only a blue-highlighted yet unchecked "Read Only" box.

If I click on the blue-highlighted "Read Only" box, a checkmark appears, and it is no longer highlighted in blue. When I click again to remove the checkmark, the box reverts to the blue-highlighting...

  3. That box is only "highlighted." Since there is no "check mark" in the empty box, it is NOT set at all...

This is easily verified by simply clicking on the empty, highlighted box. You will see a "check mark" appear, indicating that the option is now SET to "read only." Click once more to remove the "check mark."

  4. As soon as school starts up I plan to talk to him and tell him what it has done to me and others.

Well, congratulations on achieving a new level of maturity. It speaks very well for your integrity that you took the effort to come here, create an account, and make such a public apology! :D

Don't be discouraged however if your "teacher" shows little or no understanding of the harm he's causing by his poor example. If one doesn't learn moral values during puberty, it's unlikely to happen after reaching the age of adultery (er, I mean adulthood of course!)...

  5. Pete, I'd like to ask a simple question, knowing full well that I could eventually find the answer by studying the SDK carefully enough. Time being at a premium for me however, doesn't allow me that luxury.

What I'd like to do is write a freeware module that would allow any XML scripted GPS or FMS to access and display stored FSX flightplans, then load them into the sim at the same time they are loaded into the gauge's own fp database.

I see that FSX FSUIPC's toolbar has that ability, so my base question is really this: is this facility available programmatically from such a custom interface module? If so, then I'll gladly invest the time studying your FSUIPC SDK. If not, then I'll seek another solution.

  6. Don't waste your time chasing down ESP. First of all, it was nothing more than FSX with the GUI (Graphic User Interface) removed.

I say "was" because like FSX itself, the product has been discontinued and is no longer being supported. The MS Game Studio (ACES) that wrote the code was disbanded, and the offices are empty.

  7. Surely you don't mean to imply that your're slowing becoming a European version of ABACUS, are you?

I do thank you sincerely for the first good chuckle I've had in the past few weeks...

  8. I typically will go to http://flightaware.com and load up the current day's flights out of whatever airport (in the US/Canada only) where I last parked my aircraft... I look for departure flights of real world a/c that are close to what I'm flying.

Every so often, I luck up and find the same type of a/c departing around the same time as I, and can set up and fly the exact same route along with the real a/c...

  9. Maybe we should invite Boeing staff to join the 100.000 FS Fans too ! (1700 now and counting!)

Well, I posted the "Plea" and link on the ESP Developer's Forum, so...

    ...we'll see! ;)

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forumsP/threads/

A very large part of the problem -as I see it at least- is that outside of ACES itself and "serious simmers" themselves, no one in MS corprate seems to have had a clue that for hundreds of thousands of folks from all walks of life, and from all over the world Flight Simulator has never been a "game..."

It should have been treated as an "operating system" (platform) all along.

That is precisely why I'm urging everyone to add their names to the "100.000 Microsoft Flight Simulator Fans" Facebook page at:

    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=5200&ref=ts

If nothing else, it will demonstrate once and for all (or not!) the number of "serious simmers" affected world wide.

  10. As things have it, this is also the end of ESP I'm afraid.

    Case closed.

ESP will no longer be available after March 31, 2009...

As for those who invested heavily into ESP, among them one would find MS's closest neighbor, the Boeing Corporation...

...who used ESP as the basis for their B787 cockpit CRM training simulator. They are not amused by the cancellation of ESP.

  11. What I would like to know is, can I do this in some way like I was able to do so before where I was able to have reverse thrust at the rear of the throttles, but use it with the Eaglesoft aircraft.

I hope some other Citation users will come to help you here, because I don't know. From the response you got from Eaglesoft it sounds like they actively intercept the generic single throttle and use that, which really prohibits having reverse on the same lever.

Of course you can retain your existing throttle setup for other aircraft and have the Citation done differently by making the assignments and calibrations in FSUIPC aircraft or profile specific. But that doesn't help with the Citation.

    Regards

    Pete

Just to be clear, one CAN use the multiple throttle facility to have separate L and R throttles. What is not supported is the "reverse thrust" feature. As mentioned already, one would need to create a named profile specifically for this aircraft, and would need to edit the Citation_X.ini file to specify 2 throttle lever operation.

The reason Ed uses the calibrated output from FSUIPC is simply because the FADEC algorithims require, consistent, predictable, and jitter-free values for throttle lever position(s).

The reason reverse is not supported is likewise simple. How could the algorithims used know what specific value to use for IDLE, were the user allowed to set it arbitrarily?

  12. Having reflected on the events of this past week, I have had time to think of at least ONE positive thought:

GMax will never become "obsolete" for FS modeling. The last set of export tools will continue to function...

...so there's no longer any reason to not invest the time to learn how to use this free and quite powerful modeling program!

As an aside to Francois, I am promoting the facebook site everywhere I can! There is strength in numbers. It will be interesting to see how many care enough to show their support for FS by joining!

If nothing else, it might just convince "someone" that there's a large enough base to support new sim platform development... :D

  13. Bill, thanks ever such a lot for your clarification about the soft top / hard top options.

As you can see, the real D-EINB is "different enough" to have made me wonder.

Now that I look at it again, D-EINB is a "hard top" with conventional doors for the pilot & pax. I just liked the paint scheme, so took a few liberties with 'borrowing it' for the "canopy version" of the Navion... :)

Ah, I found a neat video clip of a rather dodgy landing at Alton Bay (ice rwny) by a Gulfstream American Traveler, followed by a good landing by a Navion Rangemaster 'hardtop' in Army livery...

I'll bet the pilot of the GAT had brown drawers after that landing!

  14. Hmmm, if that is the one I saw some weeks back, I would suggest a look at airliners net first. The Navion I saw was modelled so far off the real thing, it didn't even deserve the "freeware" label.

I could be wrong, so I will check it out myself. It could just have been fixed...

Chris*, there have been dozens of variants of the Navion Rangemaster over the many decades of its production. The differences range from the model in question's sliding canopy, to a "hard top" with conventional doors...

I've even received a request for a version I'd never seen before... which has a (mostly glass) sliding canopy.

N51680 was used as the example that was modeled, but one of the paint schemes I created is based on D-EINB which actually has a similar canopy but with a support column dividing the side windows on the canopy.
