  1. I'm running version 3.999 in FS9. I set up a triple engined JU52 as a profile. When I load the JU52 and check the FSUIPC settings it shows as DC-3. Obviously, the same profile will not work for these two aircraft. I would do a fresh set up of the JU52 but I cannot uncheck the 'profile specific' box (greyed out). I guess I need to amend the .ini file but what to do exactly? Thanks. John
  2. I tried it, Ed, but it didn't work. Since #21 I have mapped both my FSX (W7) and FS9 (XP) drives to my client. This has speeded up access. Also, WideFS opens automatically when connecting to FSX and FS9. I'm not sure why it does this but I like it :) John
  3. Pete Joy! After much head-scratching and experimentation I eventually decided to take a look at the client PC registry. I should have done that sooner because the ASE paths to FSX and FS9 were in a mess. I fixed these, but still no joy.... Changed port from 500 to 4506 (supposedly unused) - success at last! Also, I had to rewrite the paths in the dll.xml to get the tools showing as you said. Nope. But I gotta admit this darned Simconnect thing very nearly had me beat. MS made a very big mistake when they passed you up, Pete. Thanks again for your help and encouragement. John
  4. Ok. Just one last question. When you run FSX how many tools show in your Tools menu? I have only the OPT. I read somewhere that there are 3 in-game tools, OPT, Effects, and another. Regards John
  5. Thanks again, Pete. You been incredibly patient. I resisted FSX for years because I have such a lovely FS9 triple monitor setup. Just recently I thought I'd give FSX a go. As far as I know the only program on my client which uses Simconnect is ASE. The others, various loggers and Radar Contact use WideFS. Similarly, FSKeeper uses WideFS I think, but I am not sure. It may seem a silly question but apart from running an addon program on the client, how do you know if/when Simconnect is connected? John
  6. All checked again. Cut and pasted from your post. In correct places. I already copied to the client application folder. Not a dicky-bird! It just refuses to connect! I don't know where to go to from here. Regards John
  7. WideFS connected! Simconnect still not, unfortunately. J
  8. Pete Many thanks again. I modified the .cfg and .xml files. Still no joy, even with GRETEL instead of the IP numerals. Yes, simconnect.cfg is in the Client's Documents folder. I attempted to run ASE on the Client - just to see. Initially it could not find the FSX application. When I pointed the program to ../Roaming/Microsoft/FSX it loaded up a database. It produced weather but it did not transmit this to FSX. I wonder if the dual boot arrangement is causing problems. John PS More crossing. Will do as per #11. J
  9. Thanks for #8 too, more crossing! I will try your settings. John
  10. Pete Thanks for #6. My post crossed with yours 03.17. I have indeed two versions of the WideClient.exe. I've attached both pairs of .ini and .log files. Obviously this is a complete mess so I'm very grateful for your help. I also have a WideServer.ini and WideServer.dll included in the FSX version of the install. [Config] Port=8002 ;------------------------------- [user] Log=Errors+ ;------------------------------- Regards John WideClient_FS9.zip WideClient_FSX.zip
  11. Pete Simconnect files attached. I included the .cfg (client) as well. Thank you for looking at these. Regards John Simconnect_John.zip
  12. That's kind. I should have said that WideFS does not connect from the Client either. The server is waiting for connection....which is why I sent the first batch of files. It is not only Simconnect. As I said, I never had any trouble with WideFS and FS9. Used it for years and you wouldn't know it was there. If you think FSX's Simconnect is a triumph of software design, and a better way of connecting, I'm surprised. You must be one of very few. ;-) I have to admit that although I have read extensively I am still unclear as to the separate roles of Simconnect and WideFS in FSX. As I understand it, Simconnect is used by FSX to connect to addons such as ASE. Wide FS is used to control hardware from the Client, although this could more easily be done directly on the server machine. Maybe I am completely mixed up! I'll post the simconnect files to you later this morning. Thanks again. John
  13. Pete Yes, of course I installed Simconnect.msi on the Client. There is every reason to install the SDK on the Client. In fact you have to do it to test the connection. The Server and Client SDKs must be the same version though. I ran out of ideas myself. Sorry to trouble you. Yes, obviously I am. I'll just go back to FS9, its a better program anyway. Thanks for your advice. Regards John
  14. Pete I've been struggling with Simconnect for weeks. I now have it running on FSX - checked via FSUIPC4 console log. My problem is that I wish to run Simconnect from a client but cannot make it connect. I've followed all the very detailed installation instructions on the FSDevelopers wiki site for installing the FSX Acceleration SDK. Of the guides I've seen, they were the clearest. My set up: Wireless LAN PC Server: Dual boot Disk 1 - W7 on partition; FSX on separate partition as F:FSX; FSUIPC 4.80 Disk 2 - XP on partition; FS9 on separate partition; FSUIPC 3.997 FSX Acceleration SDK All relevant folders are shared, including the FSX root folder. Everyone can read/write to shared folders. Avast antivirus. Avast Firewall with exclusions for all I.P. addresses in network. Separate permission set to allow all network connections. Windows Firewall off. Laptop Client: W7, FS9 installed FSX Acceleration SDK (FSX itself is not installed on the client) WideFS/WideClient Same Avast firewall permissions as on Server. Windows firewall off. When I run the recommended AI Traffic.exe test from the Client SDK I get nothing. If a connection is made there should be a message to that effect. I get nought! Not even an error. When I attempt to run ASE on the Client it doesn't find FSX on the Server. I have checked, and re-checked the simconnect.xml file (server) and simconnect.cfg file (client) and that these are correct and in the correct folders. I've added the [Config] ServerName=GRETEL and also Protocol=TCP to the WinClient.ini file. There are no problems when running WideFS with FS9 running various addons. I've attached FSUIPC4.ini; FSUIPC4.log;WinClient.ini; WinClient.log files. Sorry to bombard you with this, but I have really done my best to make this work. It has me beat! :( John FSUIPC4.zip
  15. A thorough re-read, and some careful calibrations has brought the 'faulty' throttles back to perfect working order. I reset to maximum sensitivity and zero null zone as well. And I added the STICK_SENSITIVITY_MODE=0 to the fs9.cfg file. Before I posted about my problems with the throttles I had checked that there were no dual assignments. But I had not realised that under Options-Control in FS9 the joystick should be disabled before FSUIPC calibrations. After FSUIPC calibration, the joystick needs to be re-enabled if a control yoke is to be operated under FS control and not FSUIPC. Thanks again, Pete.
  16. I realise that. It is just that the misalignment of the levers on the quadrant frame is getting ridiculous. Thanks for this. I will check out the manual again. Regards John
  17. I run FS9 and my throttle quadrant is calibrated with FSUIPC (3.997p). Over the last few weeks I've noticed that the two throttles are not in synchrony - getting worse. I have not used the sync facility in the program. When I calibrate the max value on throttle 1 is 15539/16384. Throttle 2 is 16038/16384. Is the hardware bust? Or am I missing something with the calibration? Thanks
  18. With FSUIPC 3.98, axis re-allocation, re-calibration, and with a new .ini file, the un-commanded throttle changes have vanished. Everything is working properly now. I've tested the 'problem' aircraft - the Q400 Dreamwings Dash 8, and other aircraft. My guess is that the .ini file posted above was corrupt in some way. I have no plans to install the FSUIPC3989d .dll in the meantime. Thanks for the prompt support, Pete. Regards John
  19. Thanks. I did not refer to other odd effects as I thought one thing at a time. (These included power surges when using the elevator; non-functioning reverse thrust on one engine; erratic prop pitch controls; slow throttle responses generally). Yes, I checked that only the elevator is assigned as an FS2004 control. On approach all is fine, stable power both engines. At around 500 ft above surface the starboard engine goes to full thrust - uncommanded. This makes it practically impossible to land. Eventually, when both prop pitch controls are feathered I can land (not on the runway of course). At that stage the starboard engine remains at full thrust on the ground even when both throttles are at idle. Yes, it sounds crazy but it happens, and it happens every time, and at different airfields. It did not happen with earlier versions of FSUIPC which is why I think it might be FSUIPC-related. As you say, perhaps some bug has been corrected. I have deleted the FSUIPC3989d.dll and re-installed the 3.98 version. I deleted the FSUIPC.ini file and am now re-allocating axes and re-calibrating. Hopefully, this will solve the problem. Regards John P.S. At one stage I thought it might be related to disconnecting the autopilot. I flew an 18 nm final manually and the same thing happened.
  20. I run FS2004 in XP. I just installed FSUIPC3989d after 3.98a and have had this trouble since. Before this, I was running an earlier version reasonably successfully. This particular engine problem occurs when flying a Q400 Dreamwings Malev addon. I use a Go Flight throttle quadrant. All of a sudden I am getting odd effects. I have checked the axes and the calibrations a dozen times but I still cannot identify the cause of the problem. Throttles, rudder (Saitek Pro), brakes, prop pitch are run from FSUIPC; I use FS2004 to control the elevators and the ailerons. I have attached the .ini file and would be grateful for advice. 21. Pete This is just the info I need. Thanks a bunch. John
  22. Pete Sorry if this is a bit off FSUIPC topic. I need to know how .ini files work in FS9. Are they used to set parameters OR do they simply reflect parameters set by a .cfg or .exe or .gau etc file somewhere else. In other words, if I change some values in an .ini file and then re-run FS9, will the program generate another .ini file which ignores my changes? I hope this makes sense. John
  23. Many thanks. You have indeed tried your best. It is quite possible that the designer has made an impossible design. Regards John
  24. I'm nudging it because I want a torque of 16-18. At 13 the engines are at idle. At 23 we are doing 50 knots. I don't taxi at 50 knots. I am tweaking the aircraft.cfg file in order to try to control this runaway tendency. I cannot do it with FSUIPC. The good news is that I now have working profiles for twin jets and single engined pistons. I am close to getting something acceptable for the Dreamwings Dash 8. This has been a very difficult aircraft to set up with the GoFlight TQ6 throttle quadrant. The reason is that torque is programmed to increase in a step-wise and not a linear fashion. Oddly, these step-wise increments (or should I say decrements) do not occur as power is reduced. To reduce torque for descent, the levers must be brought back to idle and then advanced to the lower setting (e.g. to reduce from TRQ 65% to TRQ 35%). This behaviour seems to be programmed into the .air file and I have not been able to modify it using FSUIPC. The same thing happens when using keyboard controls. John
