  1. Hey Pitt,

    1. GMAX is free, and seems to be compatible with most 3D modeled games, including FS. I use FSDS2, just cause the learning curve was a little less steep for me. Now that I'm moderately proficient with it, I've thought about moving on to GMAX, but I'm in a comfortable rut. FSDS is payware (http://abacuspub.com).

    2. freeflightdesign.com had a great forum and tutorials, but the site has been down for the past week with no news of why...so...not sure. daviator.com has some good tutorials.

    3. See above. I think there is a utility called MDLcommander that does something with the files (allows you to read them as text?).

    4. AirEd is the one I know of, too...

  2. Hi Mark,

I will ty to dig out that video and see what may or may not be useful.

Not sure much about the history of Bremerton Airport, but with the area's concentration of Navy, I wouldn't be surprised if it had roots at least in WWII. I believe Sanderson does.

Also, dont know if this was already discussed, but there is a planned 980' runway extension in the works for PWT, any plans on incorporating that into this scenery?

Finally, not sure how to approach the Megascenery issue. I don't plan on purchasing it, but can certainly understand wanting to make your work compatible with other add-ons.

  3. Hey guys,

Is anyone planning on doing an AI traffic file?

If so...here's the N's for one of the schools that flys outta there (at least, those are the #s they had last time I was there):

    172s:

    N46203

    N1115U

    N9551B

    N808TP (my old classroom...gotta have that one :) )

Piper Seneca (could use an Archer, though...):

    N1054U

They've got some 152s, also...but not sure if you need those slow things getting in the way.. :-)...plus, I guess there isn't a good freeware representation out there compatible with both 2002 and FS9.

I also have some video from when we went and did the circuit there about a year ago. I'll check it out and see if there is anything worth mpeg-ing down and providing the team.

  4. Ya know...someone had a post here awhile back asking about who was doing what...

With all the developers around here and the (re) construction going on esp. in WA state, I wonder if it might be a good idea to have a sticky thread up top for people to communicate on what they are working on, hook up with other developers on projects, etc...that way maybe we'll minimize the toe-stepping (which we seem to have dodged in the past), and maybe get more work done (which is always a good thing :-)).

    ...just a thought.

  5. Well, unless I want to get into ground textures or custom macros...I think I'm at my patience limit (I wanna fly around Orcas, not re-build it  )for what I'm gonna do here...the next step is playing with FSE to see what I can come up with.

So far: 4 houses, three cabins, a beach shelter with a burn barrel going so you can find your way home in the dark...plenty of dock space for your float or amphibian (heck, guess they'd even work for a boat, right?).

  6. Hey Lauren,

Yeah...I think thats the problem with most of the regionals. The upgrade textures by Chris Arrington do some good, but overall kinda drab. I know you guys are busy with Bremerton, but ya might wanna take a look at Jefferson County (JeffCo) for an FSE project sometime. Cool layout and lots of structures to work around.

P.S. Anytime you wanna tweak anything I post, feel free to work your magic and we can post an 'update'.

  7. The third in the series. Adds ambience, dynamic scenery, and sounds to Fairchild International and Big Andy Field in Pt. Angeles, WA plus Seiku Airport 11S (north of Forks). Please read the included 'Install Instructions' for important information.

These airports are all located on the coast of the Straight of Juan de Fuca and fit nicely between the Washington Coastal Airports FSE Package and the Diamond Point, Forks, and Orcas Island add-ons.

  8. Hey Don,

Nope...never been to Orcas or any of the real world San Juans...other than sailing through on a boat.

I'll stay off the preserve...my little enclave is on Orcas...go NE over the hill...I'm on the other side.

I plan on doing quite a bit more to this little cove and then I'll release it.

  9. The way real estate was eaten up around Emma, I figured I'd better move fast with Orcas.

After stealing some construction supplies from the unfinished hangars at Orcas, I found myself a nice little cove on the NE side of the island to call my own...nowhere near finished...but at least the roof doesn't leak.

If you're nice to me, I might let you come to my beach parties...plenty of room at the dock!

  10. Nothing new here...just thought I'd post these for those who haven't taken the plunge yet. As far as scenery goes, this is hands-down the best package I ever paid for ('course, I never got to experience the 'live action' at Emma- being a late-bloomer). I was floored by the smoothness of the animation..esp. the local yokels cruising around the hangar.

  11. Hi Lauren,

The only reason I know this is a result of getting stuck there on the weekends many years ago while working for an area ambulance company.

I'm not sure what (exactly) the SCCA uses it for. A lot of driving in circles from what I can see. I seem to remember cones set up in a variety of patterns.

The local club (which is not, as far as I know) sanctioned by any official body, is a group that uses the runway to race whatever they can find. I've seen Geo Metros taking on Street Modifieds and every other poorly matched combination you can find. It was always good for a laugh, though.

  12. Ah, cool...more of my local fields!

Are you guys gonna do a realistic representation, totally fictional, or a mixture of both?

Don't forget the old runway NW of the field! Thats now used by the SCCA and one of the local hotrod associations on the weekends for their *ahem* ...events...I'd like to see the FSE dynamics cars flipping out with that! :)

  13. The reason you can't see the textures is due to the format (DXT 1 or 3..can't remember). It's not you or your computer, but simply the program your trying to view them in (probably Windows Explore/MSPaint).

To see the images, you need a program like DXTbmp or Imagetool. If you have FS2002, you should have imagetool in your FS folders somewhere (just do a file search, you'll find it.). If not, you can get it from the official Microsoft FS site in the SDK area. I'm not sure which SDK it's in, however. I'm sure someone...oh, never mind...I'll just e-mail it to you... :-)
