That is, of course, one of the benefits. However, the flightplan can be saved just in FSNav and reloaded at any future date also.
The bigest reason for creating a FS9 flightplan is to use it in loading a flightplan in FS9 for use by the ATC for either VFR or IFR flights. Once loaded, it will also show in the GPS window and can be flown by using the GPS position of the NAV/GPS switch and the NAV function of the autopilot.

FSNavigator works by obtaining pertinant information about the world from the scenery files. This is what takes place during the database creation step that the user must do before using the product the first time and again every time a scenery file is added that might change some of the information.
Such as an addition of a new airfield (or the deletion of one) or a change in the navigational beacons. In some cases a revised scenery file for an area may shift the location or the number of landing strips at an existing airfield. The only way that the revised information can be assimulated by FSNavigator is to rerun the database creation program. This must be done while the Flight Simulator program is NOT running and the new data will appear when the program is restarted.
Hope this info will help and won't start a fire-storm of nitpicking about some pretty basic information.

The Flight Simulator flight plans require that there be an origin and a destination airport. If your flight plan doesn't have both, it will fail to be exported. Perhaps this is the problem?

So, you want to hear,"No! We're not there yet!"? Don't talk to the driver while the bus is in motion!
No one has paid for the new version, so no one is being cheated or getting poor return on their money.
I too, have serious doubts about needing the new version, but it is the authors choice and not a personal affront.
I use the FS program's flight planner and Skyvector.com's Aeronautical charts for my navigation and enjoy it very much. Having another map would be overkill. Of course, I fly low and slow and stay within the U.S. for the most part. Most of the hi-falutin' airline hardware have their own FMC that aren't compatible with other flight planners anyway.
We'll seee what transpires when it happens.

Try the "options" menu which gives you a color choice for the map background.

Additionally, you can use the "Locate" function box in the upper left corner and, after clicking the ICAO box, enter the code EGCC. The resultant list should have all of the runways and even the parking spaces listed. Right ckick on the item of your choice and select "Send to Flightplan" as your option.

I did cheat a lot with the Ercoupe. Although it doesn't have a radio stack or GPS screen, I found that I could call them up and use them just like my other aircraft. No ILS needles, but it followed the ILS once it was locked on. I also had to assigh a key to activate the GPS/NAV option which allowed me to lock onto the flight path shown on the GPS. Just switching off the NAV key on the radio stack allowed me to deviate from that path for landings and excursions.
Still, lots of fun!

I find that I don’t really miss FSNavigator anymore. I used to be one of its chief promoters, but since I have FSX and no access to FSNavigator, I have had to learn about the usages of the GPS in the FSX program and how to intelligently prepare a flight plan using the Flight Planner option.
I have flown up and down the west coast of the US and across the southern states. Then down through the Caribbean and across the northern part of South America and back up through Central America and Mexico. It was lots of fun and I had no sense of missing FSNavigator along the way.
Recently I recreated the Alaska Sabbatical trip described in Ron Kilber’s Logbook to found at http://ronkilber.tripod.com/stories.htm. It starts out in Bellevue WA, my home town, goes to Anchorage, Alaska and then back down to Palo Alto, CA. The only part that couldn’t be recreated was the takeoff from the Bellevue airport. It no longer exists, so I had to use Renton instead.
I recently began using the sectional maps found on http://skyvector.com/. I have a second monitor connected, so it sits there for reference at any time along the way. I also have the “Traffic Toolbox” created and installed using the SDK files that are supplied with FSX. Its map resides on my second monitor also and tells me stuff about the surrounding traffic and, most important, the distance above ground of my airplane.
Speaking of which, Ron uses a Ercoupe for his trip, so I downloaded one from FlightSim.com that seems to work quite well. Its filename is “erc41520.zip”.
Also, I did this back in God knows when, using FS9 or something worse, and the pleasure using FSX with the realistic scenery in the mountains is just great! I could follow his description of the terrain almost to the letter.
Anyway, I’m not sure that I need FSNavigator anymore, but I’ll wait and see what it has.

Yes. Just look at the "Edit" page and see if the route is the same as you planned in FSNavigator. I've never experienced the problem you describe in my usage of FSNavigator exports.
I'm only using FSX now, so I can't reconstruct the situation, but I don't see how or why it should recreate a flight plan unless you inadvertantly ask it to.

When you load the flightt plan in FS9, do not click the "find route" box.
If the origin and destination are as planed in FSNav, go directly to "edit" and see what "God has wrought".
I believe spurious points are created if you ask for the FS9 program to "find a route".

Let me see... It's been some time now since I've used FSNavigator (since FSX is out), but as I remember, You have to go into "slew" mode and raise the aircraft up just a bit. "Y" for slew and "Q" for up. "A" for down or countering "Q". Now the "move aircraft to here" button should work. Ust the "A" key to return to earth before the "Y" key to exit "slew" or you will speed away at full throttle.
There may be other ways but this works. As I remember. Now what was it that I had for breakfast?

I haven't tried it, as I only run FSX now, but I have a graphics card that supports two monitors and the second monitor can display windows from the program that have been undocked. I have installed "Traffic Tools" from the SDK and it comes up automatically on the second monitor. If and when FSNavigator is released for FSX, I expect to have it display on the second monitor also.

In the SDK there is a program called "Traffic Tools". It has an option to create a map of the surrounding area of your flight. It shows all of the AI in your area. I don't know if it will show on-line flight partners too.
It can be brought up on a seperate monitor if you have one attached to your graphics card.
It also shows a lot of pertinate info about your flight and, optionally about any AI flight that you highlight.
In the same SDK there is a program for weather info that I found very interesting. It gives great detail about the weather, including tops and bottoms of layers and wind speed at different altitudes.
I hope you are able to locate these programs and use them for your enjoyment.

There is an "acorn" icon in the menu bar that will reduce the window size and undock it so that you can size and position it at your pleasure. I think a Shift-F9 will do the thick also. You do lose some of the functions available in the full window.

I have FSX and I find that I don't really miss FSNav much. I use the FSX flight planner direct and the GPS map for airport alignment. Most people haven't learned all of the functions of the GPS, but it has a lot of nice features. I also have the Traffic Tools loaded so I have a map of the traffic in the air and a constant height above ground readout.
I only fly the Cessna Skyhawk and use VFR most of the time, but I've traveled from Seattle down the west coast, across the south to Florida, down to Cuba, around the Carribean islands, into South America and I'm presently making my way up Mexico and hopefully to LA and back to Seattle.
I'll probably get FSNav for FSX when it is available, but I don't consider it to be essential to my enjoyment at this time.

Have you asked the makers of Misty Fjors, Tongass Fjords & Vancouver+, if they have any idea why their products don't have the same characteristics as all of the other scenery .bgls?

Probably a stupid question, but do you click in the box before typing? And, if you aren't using ICAO codes, do you have the box for that UNchecked?

Which program? You've obviously added the BGL for this airport. Perhaps you haven't updated the database. Otherwise the add-on hasn't used the same technique that the original did to add the runway. Seems like I've seen other posts on the same subject. Some of these things happen just to piss-off the Brits![/img][/code]

I haven't tried it in FSX, but there is a program in the SDK called "Traffic Tool box". In FS9 it showed the map (area) with all of the AI aircraft and allowed you to transfer into anyone of them. Only as a passenger though. It also showed a lot of info on the airplane you were in at the time, even your own, such as alt above ground level.
As soon as the dust settles, I'm going to try installing it for FSX.

Allthough the complete package with all the bells and whistles may be late in arriving, just as version 4.7 was, I'll bet the program will still work in most respects. I'd like to hear from those who have FSX and have tried installing the present version of FSNavigator.

The product, as it exists, is only good for FS9 and previous versions of Flight Simulator. Any development of a similar program that will recognize the variables of FSX would not compete with it or replace it for what it was written for.
The present program does what it is intended to do, except for the updating of SID/STARS as was originally intended. That function han't been available for a looong time and we wern't really expecting it to be restored for FS9 anyway.
As far as I know, every other function of the program works as advertised and lives up to the user's manual.
So. it boils down to a statement that a new program would be developed for FSX. That hasn't been done and, it looks like it may not be. That, in no way, lessens the value of the product we have paid for. I, like the rest of us, am disappointed that the facility is no longer available or FSX. Especially since I use FSX exclusively now. I find that using the FSX flight planning facility is adequate for most of the flying that I do. Learning more about its capabilities and the functions of the GPS have almost suplanted the need for an additional program. I also use an online chart program from SkyVector.com that adds a lot to my experience, although it is only useful in the continental US. There are probably other comparable programs for other parts of the world. I just don't fly anywhere else right now.
I have two monitors, so I use the second one for tha chart program and the Traffic Toolbox screens.
