  1. back up a sec, slice!

do you have lago's emma field installed in fs9, without its fs2002 version of the dll's?

if so, you installed and added the Restore scenery?

and you get those funky planky shed thingees?at runway 18???

nope, dude, havent experienced this, YET.

i'm trying to read those coords from your screenshot. maybe i should take off me sunglass; u think?

we'll figure out this funkiness for ya.

  2. dagg dude, what da unholy unsainted mary happened there????

    KEEP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we should have a piece of that volcanic chumpie, as soon as we find out what da heck happened.

take another screenshot: hit shift-z so we know da xzact coords. go beyond the box of our viewing, jeff; in other words, increase your field of vision so we can see what else is in the area.

i wanna see another screenshot with some coords. maybe i have this too!

stay tuned, my neophyte emma friend. we'll find out what that is before this tomorrow.

  3. actually, willyB, i was at our cubflyers forum last night and, although, you, me and francois are chucklin our butts off about some of the pix ALL the pix seem to be gone!

so are you saying, though, that not ALL L-4's had refitted window chumpies, that some of them looked like a regular J-3 cub with army coloring?

and what of the markings: did they ALL have ARMY on the wings, top and bottom as usual army ac do, altho i do not see ARMY on terry's pix above?

    thank you

  4. heyyyyy, come to think of it, i will be in that area at the same time, too!!!

    not really.

i just thought i would give the 2 dads of daughters the beejeebies to think that 35 (ooops, 53, i got twisted a bit when i saw willyB's daughter in that car) year old don would be in the same area.

    send in the swat team.

  5. looking real good, willyB!!!

send my daughter over... she's planning a trip to Canada this summer....

o gosh! let me see, willyB's got sons in canada (i think), you gotta daughter (going to canada in the summer), ..., time to worry, not to worry, time to worry, not to worry, ....

and ya paying for the 'worry / not to worry' too?

    great googaleegoo.

  6. jeff,

to fix the emma heavy winter textures see this thread, richard gives a solution:

    http://forums.simflight.com/viewtopic.php?t=16456

it supposes you installed his fs9 update downloadable from simon's one stop, the pointer to which someone gave you earlier.

as an aside, one of our european members is planning to go to packwood in september. perhaps you could scroll down to a thread entitled "going to packwood"; maybe you can assist him with hotels and such of the area.

i'm sure your other query, that afcad-ai stuff, will be answered by more qualified members very soon.

  7. thank you for this, pitt!

ya know, these modern guys are the continuation of a long-tradition of barnstormers, but with a couple of great exceptions:

    (1) the modern guys have the option of aircraft which the older generations of barnstormers did not, so their love for the aircraft of the period is what is their prime motivator, not money, which is what the earlier barnstormers were really into, truth be told;

    (2) although we now have atc & elex navaids and the earlier barnstormers did not, the skies are now filled with much more traffic then earlier and air corridors now are quite restricted, etc., so each generation of barnstormers has their hazards.

    i'll give that site a good look-seek.

    with gratitude

  8. great pix, terry. thank you!

were all L-4's refitted with these windows or was the L-4 designation given to any J-3 cub used by the u.s.army?

i've checked my sources and every grasshopper looks like your pix but i am thinking i saw a grasshopper once that was NOT retrofitted, just painted in u.s.army colouring and with the ARMY designation, etc.

  9. welcome to the club, jeff!!

    you're in!!

fritzois is always busy so you could get your number in a day or 2 months. but the only thing you need to be an emmaite / emmaean / effc-er is a desire so to be (and sending in your intent, which you did).

so, pull up your favourite type of chair, grab your favourite beverage and enjoy a wonderful environment for learning all kinza stuff.

what part of realworld emma field area do you call home? your sig suggests you're near chehalis. a bunch of us are quite familiar with that area, flying to packwood and morton, etc.

i hope you can get hold of the georender series of lago.

we have a coupla other rw emmafield residents at effc.

not too few effc-ers envy those who call this part of the universe their home, for it is our virtual home.

you'll find out this here new club of yours to be one of the first places you visit when you get online.

i am real glad to have you aboard, jeff.

now sit back, ask questions, give answers or opinions, give a hoot and prepare to laugh loud and learn deep and have great good fun.

  10. man alive!!!!!!!!!!!

the guy does some beeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaautiful work, that's for sure.

ya keep teasing me, man. this gal is beautiful. that's the colour-scheme i spoke of before; it's close to many a stagsimmer's heart.

    bring this funky mamma on.

thanks for the preview. my receipt is ready.

  11. yep, kofi, i was thinking that there have been "clandestine"-utilised cubs but they had no markings at all. i think.

the j-3 cub in u.s.army clothing is one of the army's L-birds (L-1 stinson vigilant; the 3 grasshoppers, L-2 taylorcraft, L-3 aeronca, L-4 cub; the L-5 stinson, upto and including one of my sweet babies, the L-19 cessna (c305) bird dog - i really wish someone would do one of these for fs9, the fs2k2 versions do not fully work in fs9). but the L-4's, i THINK had reconfigured window arrangement, etc.

so this one would be called a L-4 grasshopper, i THINK.

i often do teeter-toddling on these "markings" / configuration issues, such as this, which is why i wanted to hear what willyB had to say about it.

he's the effc cub expert / doyen.

  12. well emmaites what will happen to effc when fs10 (fs2006) comes along?

i'm wondering if our beautiful home will have to be "moved" when the newest msfs version comes along some 2 years (by average fs lonegvity).

although i scoffed at ravenblack's thoughtful query regarding our virtual clubhouse's eventual demise at some point we will have to consider a VITAL (meaning breathing, active, animated) new home for our club.

we will have to look to a place that provides the uniquety, beauty, challenge, humble elegance and that musky-wooded atmosphere we have all called our aero home-on-the-net.

of course, i strongly believe, we will still be the "emma field flying club" but my thinking is that it is a very strong probability, by today's barometer, that emma field will not exist in fs10.

ok. just a thought. this is what happens when one thinks with a headache and a cold.

time now to put this post into the archives for review a year and a half from now.

  13. I was disappointed the textures installed are the plain repaint textres without the US Army insignia and other graphics (tail number)

i, too, was surprised by that, don s.

i am waiting for willyB to chime in here because he knows this ac quite well.

surprising this artist would spend so much time getting the paint scheme together but not supply the necessary fixtures these ac are known for. sounz like these fs9-only ms ac are a tough nut to crack.

  14. geeze, mustang, this is a job for our copyright expert / effc lawyer jwenting.

if i were doing this i would just go with it and if someone comes along doing the watusi about some infraction just pull that piece and press on.

but i am a rebel without much of a cause, and i aint got no duckets from which to bail you out from your legal hassles if any came to bear upon you from this.

    good luck!

  15. lucas,

when you get new scenery, regardless whether it is auto-installed or manually installed, you should go into each of its directories and give a look-seek just to see what you are putting on your system.

i've found afcad2 files, landclass files in the scenery directory, and i've found bgl, doc, mdl and air files in the texture directory!

just good to know what you have with your new addition.

  16. lucas, when you add a new scenery into the sim it must be called up in the scenery.cfg.

many folk use the scenery library to do it (by using the Opening Screen option.

i use fsnavigator's FSNavDBC tool, then moving the scenery up or down in accordance with my goofy criteria.

if you go into the scenery.cfg manually you should really know what you are doing, otherwise you might miss a step and stuff starts missing in the scenery call up.

how do I know what is a landclass file if it isn't marked as _LC?

    short answer, lucas? you don't!

when you get a new scenery BEST TO READ THE "README" file! could save a whole lot of later headaches, also if you have a prob with that particular scenery you could always write the designer directly.

i've run across a few afcad2 files (for example, one particular ozland package) which do not have the suffix "AF2_" in their name! of course, by reading the "readme" file i knew where i wanted them but the designer wanted them elsewheres. my computer, my final say where does goes.

  17. actually, i've seen lots of designers submit their sceneries with landclass within the same directory as the main bgls.

one has to do a quick search of the particular \scenery directory to make sure there are no landclass files (usually noted by a LC_xxx.bgl or xxx _LC designation.

also real good to get all the afcad2 (AF2*.bgl) files out the separate directories too, which some designers also include but do not inform they should really be in addon scenery\scenery, at least that is the "party line" this month. (simflyers says their afcad2 files should go in their respective scenery \scenery directory.) but if you have, for example, 2 kphl afacd2 files, one from ultimate traffic called F1UT_KPHL, and the other from simflyers, called AF2_KPHL, you're asking for trouble, imo.

one has to do some bgl house-cleaning once in a while. just another burden of the fs beast we all love so much.

    thanks for the info, guys,

    cheers,

    don efc136/cub03

"Flying is man's second greatest feat; Landing is man's first."

  18. now that's a great idea, brad!

load at mriya with all the participating birds and fly to anywhere's we feel like flying for some racing. we can set up the pylons for a small fee.

come to think of it y'all townsvillains (yukyukyuk) like loud buckaroo racing things. let's do some racing over in ozland.

in the meantime, i am setting up a course for amphib/float racing adjacent to db&g, using the genius of one of our esteemed member-designers.

    stay tuned.

    cheers,

    don efc136/cub03
