Closet-Rambo Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 I have been an electronics engineer. Just don't know the current state of the flight sim market. I want to buy/build my own cockpit and am looking at PFC's stuff. All there new stuff uses the USB with the digital board, but there are refferences to USB to Serial converters. Does Dowson's software use only a Com port? How does it all tie together? anyone with links to pages that will explain? Thanks.
kobra Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 The stuff from SimKits and The Real Cockpit uses FSUIPC and runs through a single USB connection, so a serial connection shouldn't be a necessity.
Pete Dowson Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 Does Dowson's software use only a Com port? Please call me Pete. The only FS software I've written which uses COM ports is the PFC driver, for PFC equipment, and GPSout to connect to moving map software. I have written no drivers at all for other hardware connecting to COM ports or USB. The makers do their own. Pete
flypfc Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 our top end equipment has a USB to serial interface built into it which makes our hardware look like a virtual com port allowing software think our hardware is plugged into a com port
