Lucky Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 S! recently started having problems with my airspeed indicator ( All types of aircraft) I get failures of about 1 minute even with pitot heat on ??? This occurs on both of my computers. Is it related to a recent update ??Any suggestions

Maybe you are using weather with extreme icing conditions in cloud layers? Try limiting the maximim icing value allowed (Clouds menu in FSUIPC). This is an extra facility added in version 3.14 specifically in response to folks having such problems with real weather. Regards, Pete
Highvolt Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 just something about the icing... (which is unrealistic) When a real ASI has a frozen pitot tube then the needle should freeze too instead of going to zero. Climbing will result in an increase of indicated airspeed because of the increased difference in pitot and static pressure. Descending will result in a decrease in indicated airspeed. if the pitot & static is frozen at the same time, the needle wont move at all. the correct procedure in real life is to break the glass of your instrument, to have the inside air pressure act as the static tube airpressure. Kind Regards, Wim
lefteris Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 ...When a real ASI has a frozen pitot tube then the needle should freeze too instead of going to zero... This depends on the type of pitot tube. There are those with a little hole in their back to allow dynamic pressure to fall to zero, so that such "frozen" indications are not displayed. As such, your statement above is only correct for the simple-type tubes.
Highvolt Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 ah, thanks lefteris... i'm never too old for learning :)
