WideFS is now payware. You need to buy a key to use it.

FSUIPC is 'sort of' payware - you need a key to use the added functions, but almost all applications that access MSFS through it have built in keys. So you can use a program that accesses FSUIPC without registering FSUIPC, but you won't have access to the added functions - look at the "Sticky" thread at the top of the thread list titled "FSUIPC going payware" for more details.

Think of FSUIPC in two parts:

1. An interface which allows other applications to communicate with FS. This is still free at the point of use.

2. A useful menu with lots of fixes and features for FS, such as weather tweaks, joystick calibration, button assignments, etc. This is the part of FSUIPC you have to pay for yourself.

Don't get confused between the 'key' that you can buy for FSUIPC, and the key that each application has. Each application has its own key to indicate that it is 'accredited' and is allowed to access an unregistered FSUIPC.

Sorry for the delay in replying -- I've been on holiday with no Internet access. I'm just trying to catch up with an enormous backlog now!

7170 Client Application: "fs2002" (Id=316)

7170 C:\Hry\MSFS2002\fs2002.exe

7170 Product="Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002"

7571 Illegal read attempt: offset 0354, size 2

This is NOT "squawkbox" attempting to connect and failing, but some other DLL or GAUge which you have installed, which is trying to access FSUIPC using the EXTERNAL program interface. This is very bad of it.

I'm afraid there is no solution other than either finding it and removing it, or registering FSUIPC as a User.

I'm afraid there is no easy way to identify it either, as it looks to FSUIPC like FS itself, because of the wrong behaviour. Even if you register FSUIPC, to allow this one to work, it can cause conflicts with other modules or gauges -- the warnings to programmers about this have existed for 3 or more years, so this is likely to be something quite old.

Regards,

Pete
