JTWhite Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 I moved all my flight sim stuff to another room the other day and redid the network. I have four computers running PM software, 3 on windows xp, and a fourth on win98 that I assembled out of junk parts to run the CDU. I put all the computers on a ethernet switch and have them all working except the win98 machine. Here's the problem: The WideFS client wont connect. The ServerIPAddr is set correctly to themain flight sim computer, and when I open the network neighborhood on the win98 machine, all the other computers show up. Still, when I run the WideFS client, it says "waiting for connection." I guess whats aggravating is that it worked OK before, and now it doesnt. Any ideas why it may not be connecting? I know its hard to diagnoss problems by remote control, but this is puzzling me. Thanks for any help. John White Newburgh, IN http://jtw737.mysimflight.com
Pete Dowson Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Still, when I run the WideFS client, it says "waiting for connection." I guess whats aggravating is that it worked OK before, and now it doesnt. Does the Wideclient.LOG file show anything? Have you made sure the Win98 PC has permission to access the server? Just because it lists all the others as present in the Network doesn't mean it has permission. To be honest, the complicated permission system in WinXP took me ages to sort out, and I only succeeded by trial and error. I also have 4 WinXP PCs and just one left running Win98. When I run into Network problems I usually ask Katy Pluta for help. She seems to be an expert on most things Network-wise. Contact her on the FS2004 forum here, or, probably more appropriately, in the PM Newsgroup. Regards, Pete
