Multiplayer Aircraft

Recommended Posts

I hope I am asking this in the right place.

I am the aircraft repainter for a clan called "SPECOPS". We are now using the F-18E from "Team FS KBT" but as you might know it is a frame killer. They have a multiplayer version that is better on frame rate but the detail on it is not what I like. So here is what I want to do;

I want to use the high detailed version on the players computer but use the multiplayer version as the other players that he/she sees.

Example;

On my computer I use the high detailed version but see other players in the mulitplayer version. Other players use the high detail version on there computer but see me in the muliplayer version.

I know I can change the "TITLE=" section in the "aircraft.cfg" file but I don't think I can have two aircraft with the same "TITLE=" and how would FS know witch aircraft to use?

My question is how can I do this?

Thanks,

Tommy - SPECOPS_CAPT_PANTHER

Well, technically no, but you may be lucky and someone who knows about Multiplayer may spot your questions and help. But you may be better off posting elsewhere too -- possibly the FS2004 Forum initially. I don't know if there's any forum specialising in multiplayer, though the main users of that feature would be the on-line flyers using Squawkbox or FSInn.

If you are all flying separate aircraft, why can't each fly a different one? At least I'd have thought you'd want a different colour and tail number?

Then only the one being flown in each PC needs to be a fully detailed one. The others, with the same 'titles' as the other flyers' aircraft, can be clones of their fully detailed ones but using the less detailed version.

Sorry if this is completely off-the-mark. I'm really just guessing here, as I don't know anything about multiplayer -- I don't really understand the difficulty.

Regards,

Pete

Maybe I did not explane myself right.

Yes I know to see the aircraft you have to have it installed.

But what I want is to see a differant aircraft than the one the other player is flying.

Let me try to explane this way;

Say there are two players in multiplayer, me and player-X.

We both have the same aircraft installed, F-18A and F-18M (M=multiplayer).

We both fly the F-18A but I see player-X in F-18M and player-X sees me in the F-18M.

That way we can both fly the high detailed version but see the other in the low multiplayer version so to not kill frame rate.

I know this can be done as Vatsim is doing with SquakBox some how.

I know I may have to do it some coding in maybe a program that is ok, I just need a starting point.

I thought that's what you meant, and i thought that's how it could work anyway.

I'm sure it is something to do with the names, as I said first of all. How else can the multiplayer select the right model to show? I assume you both have to have both the simple (fast) and complex (slow) models, but each with the other's name. Isn't that what I said in the first place? Maybe I didn't say it very clearly.

Just discover how the multiplayer selects the matching aircraft. It must be by some entry in the Aircraft.CFG file surely, even if not the title. Maybe the Multiplayer SDK from Microsoft will tell you?

I don't see why. Surely it's just the way the aircraft is identified you need to take care of?

that is ok, I just need a starting point.

Why not look at the MP SDK?

I'm sorry, this is all completely out of my subject area, I really know nothing more. It's all guesswork without some reference.

Pete
