Hi Peter

so everything was working between my two machines, I installed the most recent fsuipc , i have a 1 gig ethernet connection. I upgraded my active sky now asv wont find my fs running . by now i think it is something with widefs becuase i dont see myself when using whazzup or servinfo on the second pc and asv wont connect.. is there a utility out there to sort this out.. Last week every worked perfectly

And what version number do you think that is? Please please ALWAYS quite version numbers. "Most recent" means the most recent one you happened to see, it doesn't mean anything to me.

What has "installing the most recent FSUIPC" got to do with this part? What version of WideFS are you using, and what do the Logs say?

I'm sorry, but the information about what is going on will be in your system. Check the FSUIPC Log, the WideServer and WideClient logs. If you've not changed WideFS at all (why not?) then perhaps you have a bad registration. I can tell from the FSUIPC Log, but it must be a complete log, from start to end with FS closed first. Keep the session short.

And EXACTLY what did you do? Changed only the FSUIPC.DLL from version 3.??? to 3.??? (fill in the ?s please). You deleted nor changed any other files, at all? No renaming, no editing, no deleting, nothing?

You must have updated WideFS as well, as 6.70 came out at the same time as FSUIPC 3.70. So it isn't the change to FSUIPC as you've been saying. In fact the Logs agree:

The rest is only the same repeating as it keeps trying.

Usually I've found that the "connection timed out" error is due to a firewall problem. The client hasn't permission to talk to the server.

You don't show what you've set in your INI files, but if you've not specified a protocol in the Client and haven't expressed a "ProtocolPreferred" in the server, then the client will default to TCP. I notice you have SPX installed on the server. Were you using that before? If so, try setting "ProtocolPreferred=SPX" in the Server. I assume the Client PC also has SPX installed?

For TCP or UDP you'd need to shutdown your firewall or tell it that the WideFS components are okay.

Peter I only included that bit about fsuipc in the event it might be helpful

Interestingly the computers can see each other and all network drives. I made sure that windows firewall is turned off so that , that was not a problem, I dont even know why i have spx on the machine, i dont think it serves any purpose. since i sent you that log I have done the following

Well it just goes to show that , with a lot of help one can work through anything,, I removed all instances of spx, and then cleaned up the network coeections ( mappings ) a bit and it connected. I hope i can remember what I did, in case it fails again..

since i sent you that log I have done the following

That's the same really - error 10060. It isn't an error WideFS detects, it is Windows which is telling me that -- I am only relaying exactly what Windows is saying when it fails.

Yes, of course. The client disconnected because Windows disconnected it with that error 10060.

I only suggested it was the firewall because previous times the error 10060 has been reported it turned out to be firewall. But with your latest log it does look like something happened before Windows reported the failure.

If it isn't firewall problems it has to be something in the Network settings I think. Maybe one end is set differently to the other. I don't understand what may have been changed though, if you say you had it working a week ago. There's absolutely nothing changed in WideFS at the networking level. All the recent changes have been related to the Client and Server discovering each other and agreeing on a protocol without a lot of user messing or parameters. But your system is sorting all that out straight away.

In the WideFS documentation there's a load of little things to check. I can only suggest going through all your Network settings and make sure that they look okay AND agree at either end.
