FSUIPC4 Reverse Compatibility to FS9

Heya Pete:

I'm getting ready to buy another set of keys for FSUIPC/WideFS. As a real-world pilot and a highly-networked online simmer, I am highly disappointed with FSX due to the many doors it closed and have uninstalled it.

If I upgrade to the new versions of FSUIPC/WideFS, are they still compatible with FS9? I run Radar Contact 4 and Active Sky 6 on a LAN machine, and am reluctant to throw down this much money if it isn't going to work. If not, will we be able to buy the latest compatible version (3.7?) at a discount?

Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to the genre. I wish SimMarket kept better records -- this will be my 3rd purchase. I feel like the mother of an ugly baby....

Closed doors? Hmmm.

It is early days yet. What was the state of your doors when FS2004 was so young?

Upgrade from what to what? FSUIPC3 and WideFS6 have been around for 3 years. The one set of keys applies to all versions of FSUIPC3 to date, and similarly for WideFS6. Both versions are targeted at FS2004 but still work reasonably well on FS2002, less so on FS2000 and a bit iffily on FS98.

FSUIPC4/WideFS7 are for FSX only at present -- probably FSXI, FSXII, etc too, but it's a bit early to be sure at present. ;-). FSX presents a completely different ball game for add-ons like FSUIPC and WideFS and these had to be rewritten, for the first time since FS98 days during which seven years they just grew and grew!

Me too, with both FS2004 and FSX. ;-)

It's me, "sparksnmagic" My account went "inactive" after that post up there.

The story in short is this: I bought FSUIPC from you back when you first started charging for it. For whatever reason, I lost the key and you said you had no record of me buying it. After a brief pissing contest, I ended up buying it again, this time from SimMarket. That's been a few years ago, and the account has since gone dormant with a long-expired email address.

The installation and removal of FSX last week corrupted the registry so badly that FS9 was rendered unuseable. I R&R'd FS9, and put in your FSUIPC4 in. Bam, there went my FSUIPC/WideFS key (somewhere in that process). SimMarket won't replace it, you won't replace it (I assume that from our previous conversation), and now I'm stuck buying a version that I don't know will work with FS9.

What I want is a working FSUIPC/WideFS for FS9, like I had a week ago. It looks like I'm going to have to spend another $52 to get there, and I'm not pleased. Yes, I have gotten my money's worth out of your product, as you keep asking so many people, but this will be the third time I've paid for it. So you can understand why I'm a little edgy.

Not possible. I never sold it. It has ALWAYS been sold by only three parties -- SimMarket, Project Magenta and Intercraft (Japanese).

You put FSUIPC4 into FS9? That won't work.

I'm sorry, but you are completely mixed up. FSUIPC4 is for FSX and the future ONLY. Until Saturday last that didn't exist. The ONLY supported version before that was FSUIPC3 (and WideFS6), which work on all versions of FS from FS98 to FS2004 inclusive, and also CFS1 and CFS2. All this information is clearly available to you if you'd bother to look. Nothing has changed recently EXCEPT the release of FSX and completely new versions of my programs to work with it. If you are not interested in any of that, nothing has changed for the last three years excepting incremental improvements in my software, from FSUIPC 3.00 to the current FSUIPC 3.70 93.709 available here), all of which are covered by the same keys.

If you have receipts for things you pay for you can expect to get them serviced. If you keep nothing and no one has records of you (... I wouldn't in any case as I've never sold direct), you cannot really expect that much sympathy. I'm sorry. You do really need to protect your own property a little better unless you have money to throw away.

I'm sorry I cannot help you, but it does neither of us any good ranting and raving here, especially with a completely irrelevant subject line and a complete false start because of it!

That's about what I expected. Thanks anyway. And now that you mention it, the first purchase was through SimMarket... it was FSNav that I bought from directly from Helge. My mistake. I'm going to pay for FSUIPC/WideFS again because I'm the one who allowed the key to get lost. Think I could get my money back on v4.01? Doubtful. They'll probably charge me to downgrade.

YOU NEED TO MAKE IT P L A I N that v4 is NOT for FS9. I've talked to no less than a dozen people in two days who have suffered the same fate due to updating from 3.7 to 4.01, not knowing that it wasn't FS9 friendly. And you can call EACH of us idiots and insult us however you like, but it doesn't change the fact that it IS NOT APPARENT that the update is NOT for FS9.

A few observations:

- trying to install FSUIPC4 with only FS9 installed will not work - the installer won't even try.

- Give 3rd Party developers some time to make there software compatable. The software I have written now works with FSX with no modifications thanks to FSUIPC4. Other software, especially those with custom gauges will take some time to convert.

- Anytning you buy, print out the receipt with the reg codes.

- If you log into SimMarket, click on "Your Account" link, log on,

then go to "Your Order Details & Downloads", you'll be able to get your keys there.

- It is pretty obvious to me what versions FSUIPC is for which versions of Flight Simulator. If you're not sure, why not try it out before paying for it? (see my first point).

Cheers,

Matthew.

Actually that would be whoever you bought it from. Since you say it was simmarket I took a quick look and hey, what do you know, it says this:

FS VERSION FSX only
(For previous FS versions see here)

Even the logo on their page has a huge X in it.
