dwhitley
I have purchased and downloaded widefs from sim market. I got the key immediately. I also upgraded FSUIPC from 3.70 to 3.75 whis was already registered. However, when I try and register the widefs, I get (Sorry, this is not a vaild 12-Character Key) Am I missing a step somewhere? Thanks, Dennis

There are no other steps. Are you by any chance pressing the button for FSUIPC registration by mistake, instead of the WideFS one? Otherwise the most likely problem is that you are making an error in one of the fields. the name, email and key must ALL be exactly as provided in the notification. Use cut-and-paste to be sure. It is easy to mistake O's and 0's and so on, and there have been many cases of folks not even spelling their name exactly the same! dwhitley
The FSUIPC is already registeredd, and, greyed out. After I could not enter the key, I did the upghrade from 3.7 to 3.75. The upgrade from 3.7 to 3.75 was no issue, and did not require that I renter the key again. I did copy and paste the WIDEFS as well as tried enerting the key manually. Still get a (Sorry, this is not a vaild 12-Character Key) The order came from SimMarket shortly after purchase. I thought that it may have to get put into the system or something of that nature. dwhitley
Follow up--- I did notice something. The key delivered was sent to a different email address that is posted in the current FSUIPC. Would that make any difference? Seems like I saw that mentioned somewhere. The user name is identical, but the email address is different. D

The user name is identical, but the email address is different. The name and email address has to be the same for both FSUIPC and WideFS. They are your identity as far as the Registration component is concerned. If you ZIP up your FSUIPC.KEY file (from the FS Modules folder) and send it to me along with your WideFS registration receipt and details from SimMarket, to petedowson@btconnect.com, I will replace one of your two keys with a matching one for the other. Decide which email you want to use and let me know. I'm afraid that if this doesn't arrive soon (i.e. before 1800 GMT today, Monday) , I won't be able to deal with it until I return on the 13th. If you miss me and want to sort it out before then you'll need to raise a problem ticket with SimMarket and see if they can handle it. dwhitley
Thanks Peter, I wrote the SimMarket guys in the meantime, and they emailed me another key under the original email address, I put that key in and it took it okay. However, I can't get a connection across the network. It is a simple linksys router between three computers, but the client machine gives a "Waiting for connection" message and the FS machine give a "waiting for client" message. I have good connectivity between the three machines, as I have several mapped drives and shared folders that I use a lot. I checked the exception tables in the firewalls, and all widefs all settings appear authorized. I'll paste the logs and INI Files below. Pete Dowson
However, I can't get a connection across the network. Your Client log shows the client is simply waiting to receive a broadcast from the Server so that it knows who it is and what protocol to use. Are all PCs running WinXP? If the clients aren't running WinXP you'll need to provide the ServerName and Protocol parameters in the WideClient.INI files. This is documented. The automatic connection makes use of Broadcasting from the Server, and I don't think older versions of Windows handle that. The other thing to check is that all the PCs are in the same workgroup. Broadcasts don't work between different workgroups. Regards Pete
dwhitley
It's XP.....Howerver, You are genius...but you knew that... It was the workgroup. A relatively new computer I never identified. All is well. I am about to see if my Jepp Sim Charts will now work across the Network. I've never seen anything from Jep about it, but I would think that their "Sim Track" should work if it thinks FS is running somewhere. Thank you so much for the help. D Dennis H.
