jphares65 Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 I have downloaded FSUIPC4 in an effort to get my recently purchased FDC Live Cockpit add-on for FSX to work. I have tried numerous times to get this to work but for some reason it does not. First, I never see the "add-ons" tag in the flight-mode screen in FSX. Second, every time I try to get Live Cockpit to connect with FSX i get an error saying "IPC REQUEST CONTAINS BAD DATA-CHECK FSUIPC VERSION." I have removed and redownloaded several times. I have disabled all firewalls. I have downloaded the Microsoft SP1. I also reinstalled Live Cockpit several times. I contacted Aerosofts service department to try and find a solution and none of them seemed to work. What can I do?
JSkorna Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Hi, If you do not have the Add On entry in FSX, that means that FSUIPC is not installed correctly. Please tell us what you have done to install FSUIPC into FSX and maybe we can help!
jphares65 Posted November 28, 2007 Author Report Posted November 28, 2007 Thanks for replying Jim. When I downloaded FSUIPC, I sent it a FS downloads folder I created on my desktop. I then extracted the files and ran the install. Everything seemed to work itself out ok and I got the message after the install was completed that everything was installed correctly and the files could be found in the Modules folder of FSX. I have checked in the .dll file is in there, although I'm not certain thats where it's supposed to be. Any ideas as to whats wrong?
JSkorna Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Vista or XP? Disabled antivirus during installation? If Vista, ran the FSUIPC Installer as Administrator? Re booted and started a FSX flight to look for the menu on the flight window?
jphares65 Posted November 30, 2007 Author Report Posted November 30, 2007 Vista. Installed FSUIPC as admin. All firewalls and anti-virus software disabled. Re-booted several times after install with no luck. I'm really not sure what the issue is. Like I said earlier, that .DLL file is in the modules folder of FSX, I'm assuming thats where it belongs?
JSkorna Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 Yes, that is where the .dll file should end up.
jphares65 Posted December 1, 2007 Author Report Posted December 1, 2007 Any ideas to what the problem may be?
Pete Dowson Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 Sorry for the delay in replying -- as mentioned in the Announcements above, my wife and I were off touring Argentina & Chile (by steam trains where possible) immediately after I returned to the UK from the AVSIM FanCon in Seattle. I have downloaded FSUIPC4 in an effort to get my recently purchased FDC Live Cockpit add-on for FSX to work. I have tried numerous times to get this to work but for some reason it does not. First, I never see the "add-ons" tag in the flight-mode screen in FSX. First is enough, you needn't say any more. There is an FSX installation SimConnect problem. Take these steps: 1. See if there is a file called FSUIPC4.LOG in the FSX modules folder. If so, then at least FSUIPC is being loaded. Show me the FSUIPC4.LOG file. 2. If there is no such file then SimConnect is not even loading FSUIPC4. The error could be in a number of places. Show me the Install log file from the FSX modules folder and we'll go from there. What version of FSUIPC4, by the way? Have you installed FSX SP1 update or the Acceleration pack? If not please do one or the other. Regards Pete
jphares65 Posted December 5, 2007 Author Report Posted December 5, 2007 Thanks for your reply Pete. I looked in the FSX modules folder, there is no FSUIPC4.LOG file to be found there. I have downloaded and installed the SP1 update from Microsoft. I have copied the install log, I believe this is what you were asking for: Installer for FSUIPC4.DLL version 4.20 Looking in registry for FSX install path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10.0 Parameter"SetupPath" SetupPath="C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\" Checking version of FSX.EXE: ... Pete Dowson Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 I looked in the FSX modules folder, there is no FSUIPC4.LOG file to be found there. I have downloaded and installed the SP1 update from Microsoft. I have copied the install log, I believe this is what you were asking for: Okay. FSUIPC4 is not being loaded at all, although it shows as being correctly installed, so something is wrong with the SimConnect installation. Please look at the "FSX Help ..." Announcement above and obtain a SimConnect Log for me to look at. It is looking like some sort of FSX repair may be needed. Regards Pete
jphares65 Posted December 6, 2007 Author Report Posted December 6, 2007 I have tried to follow the directions to delete the Simconnect .dll, however each time I get an error message saying that I need permission to do so. The part that I find odd here is that I am logged in as the admin on my computer. It's listed in the files security settings that I have rights to the file, however it still gives me that error message. Another thing I found odd is that there are two simconnect folders. I am assuming this is because I started out with the standard version of FSX and I have since upgraded to FSX Deluxe. However, maybe this presents part of the problem? I have attached the latter of the two simconnect .dll file since this is probably the one that is relevant to the FSX version I am running now. Let me know if this is what you needed or if it was something else. [bINARY DLL DELETED]
Pete Dowson Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 I have tried to follow the directions to delete the Simconnect .dll Why are you doing that? I asked you to follow the directions to obtain a SimConnect Log, so that we can see what might be going on! however each time I get an error message saying that I need permission to do so. The part that I find odd here is that I am logged in as the admin on my computer. It's listed in the files security settings that I have rights to the file, however it still gives me that error message. Unless you know what you are doing, deleting protected System files under Vista is quite difficult. Having "Admin" rights gives you very little power. Even "elevated admin" rights (which installers need, for example) may not do it. But let's not jump the gun. We don't need to delete anything yet. we are still trying to find out what is wrong, hence the need for that Log. Another thing I found odd is that there are two simconnect folders. I am assuming this is because I started out with the standard version of FSX and I have since upgraded to FSX Deluxe. However, maybe this presents part of the problem? No. Both have the same version of SimConnect. SP1 installs another version, and Acceleration/SP2 installs a third. This is a "side-by-side" library system. Windows gathers as many versions as there are, and programs written to different versions each use the one they know about. For instance FSUIPC 4.0x only knows about the first. FSUIPC 4.1x can use the SP1 version, and FSUIPC 4.2x can use the Acceleration/SP2 version. But I made them all backward compatible so that 4.2x can still work without SP2 or SP1. However, in order for it to be loaded in the first place, it always needs the first version installed. I have attached the latter of the two simconnect .dll I don't want to see the DLL files!! They are binary library files installed by FSX and will be the same here. I need to see the SimConnect LOG file (it will be a TEXT file) which will be generated by running FSX after you have prepared that little text file as given in the instructions in the "FSX Help" Announcement! Regards Pete
jphares65 Posted December 28, 2007 Author Report Posted December 28, 2007 I have created the simconnect.ini files like you asked, however no logs are being created.
Pete Dowson Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 I have created the simconnect.ini files like you asked, however no logs are being created. You have made an error then. Please show me the actual SimConnect.INI file you have made and tell me EXACTLY where you placed it. Regards Pete
jphares65 Posted February 13, 2008 Author Report Posted February 13, 2008 I created the simconnect.ini file like it was described in FSX help. It contained the following: [simConnect] level=Verbose console=No file=\Modules\SimConnect%01u.Log file_max_index=9 I placed it in Mydocuments/Flight Simulator X Files.
Pete Dowson Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 I created the simconnect.ini file like it was described in FSX help. It contained the following:[simConnect] level=Verbose console=No file=\Modules\SimConnect%01u.Log file_max_index=9 I placed it in Mydocuments/Flight Simulator X Files. And did you insert the path to FSX where it says to? Check that you got it right. SimConnect won't give any log at all if it doesn't manage to create the file, and if the file path provided is invalid, it cannot. If you got the file correct SimConnect cannot fail to create a log file, as many folks before you can attest to. Regards Pete
