I have installed FS9 and nothing else. FS9 works fine. Then I place FSUIPC.dll I downloaded from your web site into the modules folder. FS9 starts fine and you get to the create flight screen. I click on Fly Now and then the bar comes up saying its loading and goes to 0% and stays there and it never loads. If I remove FSUIPC.dll and start over the flight loads normally.

I've totally removed FS9 and run a registry cleaner. Reloaded FS9 and get teh same results. I've check and I only have my old joystick loaded.

I tried deleting the fs .cfg and fsuipc.ini files and they did not fix the problem.

I'm at a total loss and any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug

Is there an FSUIPC log file you can show me in the FS Modules folder? Do you have anything else installed?

I've never really heard of anything which will cause this -- FSUIPC isn't really doing anything at all at that stage. I assume you are starting with no FSUIPC.INI file? If there's no INI file it isn't scanning joysticks. In fact it is doing nothing anyway until FS is ready to fly.

I uninstalled FSNav 4.7 and ran a registry cleaner. Still nothing. Here is the log.

Thanks for your help, I'm about ready to quit and uninstall it all.

I uninstalled FSNav 4.7 and ran a registry cleaner. Still nothing. Here is the log.

The FSUIPC log shows it just getting as far as loading a flight, so I'm guessing there is something wrong either with the flight being loaded, or possibly the default one which would have been loaded beforehand. When this happens is it usually a corrupt "WX" file (weather). When FSUIPC is installed the weather is read more often than it would be otherwise (so the details can be passed on to client programs), which may account for the difference you get with FSUIPC loaded or unloaded.

To verify this, please just temporarily rename or move your FS9.CFG file. You will find it in your Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9 folder. Don't delete it for now as you will lose your FS9 option settings.

Then when you run FS9, don't ask it to load any existing Flight, just in case it gets a bad one. Create a new flight (as you did, I think the time you made this log).

If this works, then I think your default flight, and probably any made from it, have something wrong and are best not used. Although, looking at the log again, I see you are still loading the original default flight (FLIGHTS\OTHER\FLTSIM.flt) from the FS9 flights folder.

To get over this, you can either start from the new FS9.CFG it made on this test run, ad go and set up all your options again. If you do this, delete your currently saved flights (from your "My Documents\Flight Simulator Files" folder), and then Save a new flight, marking it "default".

If you want to go back to your old FS9.CFG, delete all the flights before you put it back so that a bad one doesn't get re-loaded. FS might complain but it will get by and load a base default flight. Then you can make and save a new one.

If you are interested, bad WX files can occur as a result of flights saved after a real weather download goes wrong in some way. The WX files are binary representations of FS's internal weather tables, and don't get checked like normal text files would be.

If none of this seems to work, then we are looking instead at possible corruption in other areas. Probably either add-on aircraft gauges, or other DLLs added in the Modules folder. But try the above first.

That didn't work.

I uninstalled everything inclucing FS9. Ran a registry cleaner and did a defrag. I reinstalled FS9 and FSUIPC 3.74 and then updated to FS9.1. Same thing. Won't run after you click Fly Now with FSUIPC.dll in the modules folder. I delted the FS9.cfg file and started with a different flight and made it the default. Same result.

Just shoot me.

Thanks for your help.

I uninstalled everything inclucing FS9.

When you uninstalled it, did you delete the My Documents\Flight Simulator Files folder and the Documents and Setting\\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX folders? For if you didn't you did not remove the main parts which contain data about FS9 and its behaviour.

When it was uninstalled, did you check there was nothing left it its folders? For its uninstaller only removes what IT installed, not what you may have since added.

Ran a registry cleaner and did a defrag.

I don't think any of that makes any difference at all. The registry doesn't come ito it.

I reinstalled FS9 and FSUIPC 3.74

Why have you gone back to an unsupported version of FSUIPC? I cannot help in any case with old versions.

Won't run after you click Fly Now with FSUIPC.dll in the modules folder.

Without deleting the files which are possibly causing this it isn't so surprising. Sorry.

I delted the FS9.cfg file and started with a different flight and made it the default. Same result.

It still could be a file you are creating based on a previous "default" which was bad.

Are you now absolutely sure there are no add-ons at all apart from FSUIPC? You left nothing else added in the Modules folder, nor any aircraft or gauges added. Just the basic FS9? If so then it has to be a bad joystick driver I think Please, in Windows, look at the Game Controller. See if it lists any joystick type devices you no longer have connected. Also run the attached program, "Joyview" and check in each of its section to see if there is any device which you aren't aware of.

Also, in case there really is some access by another add-on, add

LogReads=Yes

LogWrites=Yes

to the [General] section.

Then try again. Show me the log please.

Another way to check whether it is a rogue joystick driver is to download the latest interim version of FSUIPC3 (3.777) from the "Other Downloads" Announcement above, install it into the Modules folder, then edit your FSUIPC.INI file by adding

PollInterval=0

to the [buttons] section. If you have no [buttons] section add

[buttons]

PollInterval=0

This will stop FSUIPC looking for button presses altogether, just as a test to see if this is the cause.

I deleted everything .......except the my documents folder. Didn't know about that one. Sorry.

I uninstalled everything and deleted everything pe your instructions. I had nothing except flight sim and the FSUIPC installed.

Tomorrow I will install Flight Sim and the download of FSUIPC from your site and try again.

Thanks for your patience.

I deleted all the folders you mentioned and uninstalled FS9. I then installed FS9 with nothing else. Ran fine. Installed FSUIPC.dll 3.75 and after I pressed Fly Now it stops at 0% loading scenery objects. Upgraded to FS9.1 and it ran fine without FSUIPC. Placed FSUIPC in the Modules folder and

fs9.1 locks after loading scenery objects.

I then tried deleteing .cfg and .ini files, tried using a new default flight all still resulted in FS9 locking at loading scenery objects.

I don't know what else to do.

I don't know what else to do.

Well, you could stop ignoring all my replies and suggestions and try some of the things I mentioned. That would be a start, wouldn't it?

Did you ever make the logging changes I asked and show me the results?

Did you check for joystick drivers? Did you use the Joyview program I attached?

Have you actually bothered to try doing what I suggested two days ago -- installing 3.777 and setting PollInterval=0 as I said, just to see if it a rogue joystick driver?

You seem to be ignoring my replies, so why bother to post here at all?

I'm sorry if I pissed you off but I'm not sure why. I have followed all your directions except for adding the lines to the .ini file. The log file is included below. I searched but was unable to find the "Other Downloads" so i didn't downlod 3.777. I ran joyview before I started posting and it showed only my current Thrustmaster Flight Stick. Don't misunderstand me i really appreciate your help. I tried to fix this myself for a couple of weeks before I started posting. So i really appreciate your help.

I'm sorry if I pissed you off but I'm not sure why

You've not "pissed me off". You are just not reading and following my suggestions, so it eventually becomes not worth replying to you.

I have followed all your directions except for adding the lines to the .ini file.

Well, not until now you haven't.

I searched but was unable to find the "Other Downloads" so i didn't downlod 3.777.

You didn't look among the Announcements then. All the Announcements at at the top of the Forum. All you have to do is scroll up from where your message is!!

Here is the log file:

Assuming you added the LogReads and LogWrites lines correctly, it shows nothing attempting to access FSUIPC, so we must conclude it is something in FS itself.

From your later message:

I found FSUIPC 3.777 and added the lines you asked me too to the .ini file. It still locks at the same place loding scenery objects after I press FLy Now.

Okay, so it cannot be a rogue joystick driver.

The only thing FSUIPC is doing at that stage (especially as you are not Registered so it isn't operating any user options) is reading the Weather data. So possibly you have corrupt weather data in FS9. That can happen sometimes when real weather downloads go wrong, but usually it is fixed by deleting all the existing WX files. You did delete ALL the files in your "My Document\Flight Simulator Files folder, didn't you? If so then it must be elsewhere.

Quite honestly, I'm stumped. This is unique. I suspect there must be something you must have left un-deleted last time you uninstalled and re-installed FS9. Are you CERTAIN that you deleted the whole of the folder (and all its subfolders):

C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\FS9

because I think the answer must lie there.

And when you uninstalled FS9 last, you did delete any remaining folders that its uninstall left behind, didn't you? The uninstaller doesn't delete all add-ons and changes, only the original install. In particular, there would be additional files in the FS Modules folder which it would not have deleted. Maybe there's a rogue module in there. You have to do a fair bit of tidying up, deleting loads of bits left behind.

I've checked my FS9 code, and there is still a test facility built in which would enable us to ascertain whether it was related to some Weather files or not.

Edit the FSUIPC.INI file again, adding

Debug=Please

LogExtras=8

to the [General] section.

Then see if FS9 gets any further. If not then I have no idea, because with that in place and you not being registered, FSUIPC is doing nothing at all until some application links to it.

I followed your directions the last time I deleted and did delete the folder in My Documents and the one in Documents and Settings and the entire folder for FS9.

I added the lines you requested and here is the the log file (still didn't load)

Okay, so it isn't the weather.

This is strange. I've not had anything like this before at all. I don't know how to proceed now. wrong with your FS or Windows system, but what? If I was there, with your PC, I'd use debuggers and all sorts of tools to determine what was going wrong, but I can't see how to do this from here.

Just as a last gamble, could you please send me a directory listing of your FS modules folder. I attach a little batch file which will produce one of these. Just unzip the ListDir.bat file to your Modules folder, then execute it (double click it). It will make a small text file called Dir.txt. Zip it and send it to petedowson@btconnect.com.

I will delete one more time and verify that everything is eleted as you directed. Qill it be any different if I load FSUIPC 3.77 into FS9 or FS9.1?

Well, if you are starting with a complete reinstall, test with FS9.0 first before doing the update to 9.1 in case the latter is corrupt.

Pete

Okay, you wrote to me by Email. I've moved your report back here to keep the thread complete.

You sent the DIR.TXT, that's fine. Nothing wrong there. The other directory listings weren't needed and were empty in any case. And the log of course was the same as the one you posted here.

I reinstalled FS9 this morning and it worked fine without FSUIPC. Once again it stop loading after I pressed "Fly Now".

Right. That is weird. It isn't something in FS, then, so it must be something else in your Windows system. I'm sorry, but apart from a complete reinstall of Windows I really can't think of anything to suggest now.

I noticed that when I went to Taskman to end the program there was a process listed under Processes titles ~e5d141.tmp running which hadn't been running before. When I ended flight sim the process was still listed. I terminated it also.

That's the copy protection routine FS runs when you start it, to stop folks hacking it so you can't load or run it without the CD. Of course that protection didn't last long, they never do.
