Hello,

I do have a problem with FS9 and Windows Vista to activate GPSout. Could you help me to resolve this little problem. I have been using GPSout and Windows XP and FS9 for long time but when I upgrated my computer to new system with Windows Vista 64 I can't set up GPSout (only in FS9). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Please ask me any questions to help me resolve this issue. (I use GPSout to connect my AvMap EKP-IV). Thank you.

There's nothing much to do to 2set up" GPSout, so I really don't know what you mean. Can't you explain what the problem looks like?

The most likely problem is that you don't have a working serial port. Have yuo checked? Are you sure your COM port is working with Vista 64? I've just changed to Vista 64 on one of my systems and it took me quite a while to find a way to get a serial port with Vista 64 drivers which worked -- I had to install a Brainboxes UC246 single Serial port PCI board, which was the only one I found with Vista 64 drivers.

None of the USB to Serial port adapters I have (and I have about 4 varieties) have drivers which work on Vista 64, even though some do install as say they are working; there's simply nothing happening with them.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for your quick reply. My Device Manager tells me that I have two ports, Communication Port (COM1) and USB Serial Port (COM2). My GPSout is connected to COM2. I have FS9 and FSX on my new computer with VIsta 64. FSX works fine and sends GPSout signal to COM2 and I can use my AvMap EKP-IV, so I know that COM2 works fine. When I switch to FS9 GPSout do not work (I prefer FS9 over FSX - faster and more reliable). I have two different FSCUIPS for each FS. Never had any problem with GPSout on any of my computers until VISTA (do not like this windows - hard to find anything there).

Pete do you need any other info about my setup to help resolve this little isue. I do realy appreciate your help. Thanks.

One thing I found using Vista and a Flight mapping program to load data into my GPS for real flights was that the serial port cannot be used unless you use the Run As Administrator to run the program.

The program in question was Jeppesen FliteStar and my account was an administrator one but it still made no difference unless I used Run as Administrator. Only then was the program able to input/output through the serial port.

Just a thought.

Strange, because GSPout is exactly the same in both cases

Since the code is identical in both cases I really have no idea. The only answer I can think of is that you haven't actually installed GPSout.DLL and the INI file with the required parameters into the correct folder.

You do realise that if you allowed FS9 to install into Vista's "Program Files" folder that Vista does some weird stuff with it, because FS9 is not Vista-aware and tries writing to its own folders (not allowed by non-privileged programs in Program Files). Unless you are an administrator with elevated privileges I think it diesn't show you the real folders but does some sort of copy. Confused the hell ou t of me when I tried Vista with FS9, so I uninstalled it and used my usual "C:\FS9" folder for installation instead.

I've a vague idea you can get to see the real FS9 Modules folder if you run Windows Explorer using "Run As Administrator". Double check to make sure the right files are in the right place. With FS9 running FSUIPC it will be the folder which also has an up to date FSUIPC Log file.

There's really nothing else I can think of, because, as I say, the code is identical.

Pete
