BAW019 Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 Having never seen this before I thought I'd ask if anyone else is having problems unzipping the latest version of FSUIPC4? I've downloaded and successfully unzipped 4 out of the 5 files listed in Pete's topic "Updates, interim versions, and other goodies [11th Feb 2009] " but for some reason the FSUIPC4 version 4.432 download always returns the message "Error Reading The File" when I try to uncompress it. I can double click the file and it's contents in Windows Explorer, I can even view the PDF and the LUA files from there. Obviously I can't do anything the verify the DLL but the other 4 zip files on the download page contain DLL files and they uncompress fine. Just for the record I've done all this with and without McAfeee running, defragged and even run a full system McAfee check and I'm free of problems/virus/spyware etc. Can anyone shed any light on this, it appears to be the only file I'm having trouble with? Thanks! Ian (Forgot to say, I've tried lots of downloads from other sites too - no problems).
Pete Dowson Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 I've downloaded and successfully unzipped 4 out of the 5 files listed in Pete's topic "Updates, interim versions, and other goodies [11th Feb 2009] " Just the 5 main program files, you mean, as there are 15 files there altogether, plus of course the two PDF's listing the FSUIPC changes. but for some reason the FSUIPC4 version 4.432 download always returns the message "Error Reading The File" when I try to uncompress it. Strange! All of the Zips I upload, both here and in the Schiratti site, are Zipped using standard default options in WinZip version 10.0, which makes them fully WiinXP and Vista compatible. I can double click the file and it's contents in Windows Explorer, I can even view the PDF and the LUA files from there. Obviously I can't do anything the verify the DLL but the other 4 zip files on the download page contain DLL files and they uncompress fine. If the DLL will extract, you can certainly verify the extracted copy by right-clicking on it, selecting Properties--Signature, selecting the signature and pressing "Details", making sure it says it is ok. If there's anything wrong at all with any of the uncompressed bits, it will make the signature fail -- that's what it is for, to prevent tampering and to ensure that what you get is what I made. As well as checking the file by downloading (I use FireFox) and unzipping using WinZip, I've also just checked that WinXP can see it all and extract it al properly too. I'm really not sure how it could be different on your system. Do you want me to email you the ZIP to see if it's something going on en route from the SimFlight server? Regards Pete
BAW019 Posted February 13, 2009 Author Report Posted February 13, 2009 Hi Pete Do you want me to email you the ZIP to see if it's something going on en route from the SimFlight server? No need (but thanks for the offer) it downloads fine from work so I've got a copy, I'm just trying to figure out why it's playing up from home. When it's downloaded at home I can't get the archive to extract at all but I can view the contents in Windows explorer without uncompressing it and if I double-click the files I can view all of them except the DLL (obviously!). If I look at it's properties I'm restricted to this dialog. I suspect it's something on my PC that's been tweaked by an XP service pack, or perhaps McAfee's weaved it's magic in some dark and dusty corner of the registry but I'm really puzzled by why it's only giving me problems with this DLL when it's been working fine for years and every other download seems to work OK too! All the best Ian

It is indeed most strange. Regards Pete
